Chapter 4 You Are The Only One

  • “Truth is, I'm tired, too. We're only bound by a marriage contract and not actually married. That's why the Quantrill family isn't willing to take you in. For the past two years, I've shouldered too many matters for the Quantrill family. I've also endured many criticisms because of you.”
  • When Osmond heard those words, his eyes sparkled as a trace of warmth surged in his heart, which had long been sealed in darkness.
  • Grady once told Osmond that the people who remained by his side during his glorious days might not necessarily be fakers. However, those who were willing to stay with him during his lowest genuinely cared for him.
  • At that point, Osmond had lost all his power and had become a mentally disabled person who was paralyzed from the waist down.
  • It had not been easy for Constance to do all that for him.
  • Osmond originally thought of leaving the Quantrill family now that he was awake.
  • The moment he heard Constance's words, he could not help but change his mind.
  • Osmond was a person with principles. He sought revenge whenever necessary and returned favors when needed.
  • He had to return Constance's favor, even if he wanted to leave.
  • “I don't ask for much. I just want someone to take care of this family with me. I also want... someone to go shopping with me, someone who can shoulder the responsibilities and shield me from all kinds of danger.”
  • Constance sniffled and slowly placed her head on Osmond's thighs.
  • She rarely behaved that way. That day, however, she could not hold in the emotions she had been suppressing for a long time.
  • Right then, Constance felt someone holding her hand.
  • She quickly lifted her head, instantly meeting Osmond's determined gaze.
  • For some reason, Constance's heart began beating fast.
  • “No matter what happens, you, Constance Quantrill, will be my only woman for the rest of my life.”
  • Constance's mind went blank as she was startled by the man's sudden speech.
  • Several seconds later, she shrugged off Osmond's hand and stood abruptly.
  • At that moment, she was feeling shocked and embarrassed at the same time.
  • She was shocked because Osmond had actually regained his senses, and embarrassed because she had expressed her feelings to him.
  • Constance glared at him, feeling angry and humiliated. “You've really regained your senses. Why did you lie to me? You—”
  • “I didn't lie to you. I've just recovered,” Osmond responded seriously, his eyes boring into hers.
  • “Y-You're lying to me!” Constance was flustered, utterly embarrassed by what she said earlier. With that, she snorted and entered the house.
  • Sitting in the wheelchair, Osmond gazed at the blazing sun in the sky. Slowly, the corners of his lips lifted to form a smile.
  • Two years of being a dimwit and a cripple. Two years... Yet, she's been taking care of me without leaving my side.
  • He was a merciless commander who was invincible on the battlefield.
  • Then again, despite how powerful and almighty he was, he could still be sentimental.
  • He could not bear to disappoint her after all the kindness she had shown him.
  • After some time, Constance returned and tossed Osmond a box. “Here. This is yours.”
  • “I won't let everything you've done for me be in vain. You said we only had a marriage contract. I'd like to make it up to you by holding a grand wedding for you if that's possible.” Osmond accepted the box, giving her a serious stare.
  • Constance returned to her usual cold self. She eyed Osmond's legs calmly and said, “Perhaps you should think of what you're capable of doing in your current state.”
  • Osmond might have regained his senses, but he's still a cripple.
  • Osmond's eyes glinted. Sighing softly, he said, “I... Give me some time.”
  • “I've given you two years.” Constance shook her head slowly and walked out of the courtyard.
  • After all, she had only taken a few hours of leave to return and push Osmond out to get some sunlight when she was halfway through her work. She still had to return to work.
  • “You've taken care of me for two years. In return, I'll promise you a prosperous life.” Osmond watched Constance leave before opening the relatively small wooden box.
  • The contents were a regular bank card, a box of silver needles, and some random objects.
  • “Interesting. I didn't expect Paul to think of bringing me these things,” Osmond muttered to himself, picking up the box of silver needles.
  • He then swiftly inserted nine needles into the acupoints on both his legs through his pants.
  • With a flick of his finger, the needles vibrated continuously like the ripples on a pond.
  • At the same time, waves of warm currents spread throughout his legs.
  • His blood flow was speeding up, and he was slowly regaining his long-lost energy.
  • Everyone knew he was invincible on the battlefield. On top of that, he was the youngest Nine-Star Commander.
  • However, what many people did not know was that he also had photographic memory since he was a child. Moreover, he had superb acupuncture skills.
  • After some time, he waved his hand over his legs.
  • The needles were instantly withdrawn and placed back into the box.
  • Judging by my current condition, I should be able to recover completely within a week. When that time comes, I'll be a true commander again. No one in this world can stop me again.
  • Osmond looked up to the sky, his gaze indifferent.
  • “I'll return the Quantrill family's favor, but I'll also make them pay for the humiliation they've caused me. I'll take back everything I've left behind.”
  • Osmond's calm yet determined voice rang out in the courtyard.
  • In a hotel, Kieran and Flora were in the middle of a discussion.
  • “Ms. Watson, who exactly is this Osmond Lestrange? Why do I get the feeling that he's not that simple?” Kieran frowned. He felt his heart skip a beat when he thought about Osmond's mannerisms.
  • “What kind of identity can he have? He's just a stupid soldier. Ugh. I don't know what was wrong with Old Mr. Quantrill back then. How could he promise Constance's hand in marriage to Osmond? Thank goodness it's just an engagement and not an actual wedding yet. Otherwise, the Quantrill family will become everyone's laughingstock.” Flora snorted coldly. The mention of Osmond's name made her furious.
  • “According to my family's informant, there was a commander with the surname Lestrange in the northwest army two years ago. He was the youngest commander ever known. He destroyed everything that was in his way, won thousands of battles, and defeated all the powerful people in the world. He conquered the mountains and rivers alone. It can be said that there's only one person like him in the entire country. This Osmond...”
