- The bell rang, signaling the end of class. The students, who had been listless throughout the lesson, instantly perked up. They left the classroom in small groups and pairs, their spirits renewed.
- Christine nudged Samantha, who was busy packing up her textbooks, with her elbow. Her big, mischievous eyes scanned Samantha like a radar before she asked in a suspicious tone, “Hey, Sammie, you didn't come home last night, did you? Hurry up and spill the beans. Who were you with and what were you doing last night?”
- “What are you talking about? Who can I be with, and what can I do?”
