Chapter 12 Harboured Feelings

  • Sally tilted her head thoughtfully. "Hmm ... How should I put this? I know Sophia usually ignores you ...
  • "But sometimes, I think deep down, she still cares about you a bit ... After all, 45 thousand isn't a small sum. I'm sure you couldn't have borrowed it from anyone else but Sophia."
  • Michael was taken aback. He hadn't anticipated Sally holding such beliefs, thinking that Sophia lent him money out of lingering affection.
  • However, Sally was mistaken. Sophia had given him that money so that he would propose divorce himself.
  • "What's wrong, Michael? Did I guess wrong?" Sally blinked innocently.
  • Confused, Michael asked, "Sally, why do you think that way?"
  • "It's just intuition, women's intuition!" Sally replied confidently.
  • Michael frowned sternly. "You're too young to be talking about women's intuition like that!"
  • Sally grabbed Michael's arm earnestly. "Michael, don't dismiss it. Even though I'm not yet a woman, I'm still a girl. My intuition can't be wrong ... "
  • "Okay, Sally, but why do you have this intuition?" Michael asked, curious.
  • "Hmm ... "
  • Sally tilted her head, pondering deeply.
  • Seeing her lost in thought, Michael shook his head. "Alright, stop dwelling on such things. Your priority now is to recuperate and rest."
  • He didn't want Sally to be affected by his issues with Sophia.
  • Just then, Sally suddenly said, "Michael, have you ever considered that after all these years of marriage, maybe Sophia got pregnant? Could Sophia have lent you money because of the child?"
  • "A child!?" Michael was startled!
  • But he quickly shook his head. "Sally, you really have an active imagination. Given Sophia and my situation, how could we have a child?"
  • Sally nodded thoughtfully. "You're right ... But Sophia hasn't divorced you all these years, and now she lent you money. I just have this feeling that you might have a child together ... "
  • "Enough. Stop thinking about all that. Rest up quickly!"
  • Michael gently brought Sally back to reality and gestured for her to calm down.
  • Sally pulled the blanket over her head, leaving only her eyes visible. "Okay, Michael. I won't say anything more, alright?"
  • Michael gave Sally a stern look. "Rest well!"
  • Understanding his seriousness, Sally reassured him, "Michael, don't worry. I know you're tight on money after the surgery. I'm fine staying here. Dr. Mckinney has been really kind to me. I'll focus on recovering quickly!"
  • "Good!" Michael nodded in approval.
  • It seemed Cedric hadn't disclosed how he had resurrected Sally.
  • She probably thought he couldn't afford a hospital room, so she ended up here.
  • That was fine. Until he understood the Taoist medicine legacy of the family, keeping Sally away from it was best.
  • Suddenly, Sally nudged Michael.
  • "Michael, don't linger here. Go home and be with Sophia. I can't rest with you hovering around!"
  • Taking Sally's hint, Michael reluctantly left.
  • In the lobby, he found a seat, but his mind raced.
  • Sally had suggested that Sophia still harboured feelings for him.
  • And she even suggested that Sophia and he might have a child together!
  • If only it were true!
  • But Michael knew it was impossible.
  • If Sophia truly cared, why had she cheated on him for so long and asked that he propose a divorce?
  • As he was in thought, Cedric emerged from a room.
  • With him was a stern-looking elderly man with sharp eyebrows.
  • They appeared engrossed in a medical discussion.
  • So, Dr. Mckinney was absent earlier because he was attending to someone.
  • Michael didn't pay much attention to the elderly man.
  • But he sensed Cedric's uneasy gaze avoiding him.
  • Soon after, Cedric escorted the elderly man away.
  • Just as Michael was about to express gratitude for Cedric's invaluable help, he saw Cedric rushing towards him.
  • Then ... Cedric suddenly bowed before him!
