Chapter 11 I'll Eat Them Myself

  • Upon seeing the contents of the box, Terry burst into laughter.
  • "Hahaha, Shephard, looks like I gave you too much credit. I thought you would create something, but all you've brought are a few leaves!
  • "What is this? It's not even tea!
  • "It seems you were worried we'd look down on you, so you put all your effort into the packaging. You're too lazy even to craft something handmade!
  • "If the chalcedony is fake, it just means I was fooled. At the very least, I spent 30 thousand out of genuine sentiment. But you, you bring these leaves deliberately!"
  • Everyone glanced at what Terry held and shook their heads.
  • Presenting leaves as a gift was profoundly disappointing!
  • Michael stepped forward, took the leaves from Terry, and turned to Melissa.
  • "Aunt Melissa, do you also think these are just ordinary leaves?"
  • Melissa stared at the leaves in Michael's hand and her eyes widened momentarily.
  • But quickly, Melissa composed herself. "Aren't these just leaves?"
  • "Fine, leaves it is! Since they're just leaves, I won't bother giving them to Grandma. I'll eat them myself!"
  • Michael nodded and promptly swallowed the leaves.
  • Laughter erupted in the room.
  • Only Melissa gazed wide-eyed, a pang in her heart.
  • The younger Lewises might not have recognised it, but Melissa knew well: What Michael held was an exceedingly rare dendrobium catenatum!
  • The dendrobium in Michael's hand was a wild specimen of exceptional quality, aged ten years, and was exceedingly scarce and seldom seen!
  • It was something money couldn't necessarily buy!
  • Yet unexpectedly, Michael had just consumed it!
  • What a waste, what a waste!
  • Having done this, Michael turned and left.
  • There was no reason to stay any longer.
  • If the Lewises wanted to live in self-deception, so be it.
  • Even after he walked out of the private room, Michael didn't hear Sophia call after him.
  • Perhaps Sophia feared he would cause more trouble if he stayed.
  • Sophia, I won't be the one to bring up divorce. If you want a divorce, you'll have to say it yourself!
  • ...
  • Back at the clinic, Cedric was nowhere to be found, and Michael didn't know his whereabouts.
  • In the inner room, he found Sally awake, lying in bed reading a book.
  • "Sally, you're awake!"
  • Michael entered.
  • "Michael!"
  • Seeing Michael, Sally greeted him shyly, attempting to sit up.
  • Seeing Sally about to rise, Michael quickly said, "Alright, Sally, lie back down. Don't strain yourself."
  • Approaching, Michael noticed Sally was engrossed in a medical book.
  • Despite enduring many hardships with him, Sally had one unwavering passion—a love for learning and reading. For this, Michael spared no effort in ensuring Sally received an education.
  • Fortunately, Sally was diligent and had gained admission to Goldspire University.
  • But whenever he thought of Sally's past suicidal thoughts, Michael couldn't help but feel heartbroken.
  • Sally was perceptive and immediately sensed Michael's mood, timidly asking, "Michael, are you still angry with me?"
  • Michael shook his head. How could I blame Sally?
  • Sally playfully tugged at Michael's arm.
  • "Okay, Michael. It was my fault. I shouldn't have considered suicide.
  • "Let me guess who lent you the money ... It must have been Sophia, right?"
  • Michael paused, looking at Sally. "Why do you think it was Sophia who lent me money?"
  • He was curious why Sally thought Sophia had provided him with financial assistance.
  • Sally was well-informed about his situation with the Lewises.
  • Sophia didn't regard him as a husband, let alone consider Sally as part of the family.
  • She only lent him money because she wanted him to bring up getting a divorce.
  • Given all this, why did Sally believe Sophia had lent him money?
