Chapter 1308 Launching Nukes!?

  • “These idiots!” The High Priest spat, then sent waves of mental power surging toward the incoming jets. But his mental force wasn’t meant to attack—it was a message, pushed straight to the pilots. As the team trained under the High Priest, some of them could read mental language. So the warplanes could pick up what he sent. Even so, they didn’t slow down or turn. They kept barreling in fast. “They’re dead set on using nukes!” Michael Shephard’s face went dark. “We need to run. If you’re not running, drop the barrier around the island and let me out. I’m getting the hell out!” Just like the High Priest said, he couldn’t leave the island. After the High Priest drew on the altar’s power, a strange energy sealed the place, locking Michael inside. If he could break the altar’s array, he could have escaped. But right now, he couldn’t. A wise man doesn’t stand under a crumbling wall. He wasn’t about to gamble his life under a nuclear blast. “Damn it!” The High Priest had no time to deal with Michael Shephard. He stared wide-eyed at the jets streaking in. This island was his sleeping ground. He’d poured everything into protecting it. No way he’d let it get wrecked. He let out a cold snort, hefted his spear, and hurled it at a fighter jet. The spear ripped the air with lethal force. The jet tried to dodge, but the spear punched straight through it. In the same motion, the High Priest recalled the weapon back to his hand. “Stop!” he roared at the planes, trying to force them down. But aside from the one he skewered, the others didn’t stop. They kept coming. “We need to go!” Michael Shephard rushed up to the High Priest and shouted, “Don’t you get it? They’re going to kill both of us right here!” “No…” The High Priest looked stunned, like he couldn’t believe what was happening. The Pretty Nation had always bowed and scraped to him—asking for guidance, keeping humble. Even their president acted the same. To the High Priest, they were just dogs. If he was in a good mood, he’d toss them a bone, teach them a trick, give them a bite to eat. He never took the Pretty Nation seriously, even after promising to do three things for them. No matter what, it was them begging him. He never imagined they’d turn around and come for his throat—especially while he was helping them right now. And now they were going to use nukes on him. Worse, they’d blow up the one place he cared about most. “Fine. Fine. Fine! You dare use nukes on me? I’ll make you pay.” The High Priest glared toward the Pretty Nation, eyes ice-cold. He knew he couldn’t stop the launch. Years of work—gone in a heartbeat. But he could still survive the blast. Once he dodged the nukes, he’d settle the score with them, down to the last cent. Michael Shephard shook his head. He didn’t pity the High Priest, but the Pretty Nation was pulling a dirty move. Still, right now, he had to thank them. If not for this, he might really have gone down to the High Priest today.
