Chapter 4
- “Where are you taking me?” Emerson asked, glancing once at William before focusing back on the road. They were riding in Emerson's car with William giving him directions occasionally.
- He could hear the smile in William's voice as he said, “You would see.”
- He didn’t want to let himself think of what he was actually doing right now, or the consequences of this action. Emerson simply closed his mind to that part of himself. They weren’t doing anything wrong, he told himself. William was just taking him someplace else.
- After about twenty minutes of driving, they came to a stop at the top of a cliff, Emerson killed the engine and followed William out, cautiously looking around.
- “You’re not planning on killing me right?”
- William glanced back at him and chucked, “I don’t think I would be able to pull that off alone, I might need help.” And when he saw Emerson's eyes widen and he stopped in his tracks, William’s chuckles grew into a laugh.
- But it wasn’t funny to Emerson, he was truly concerned for his safety. It was a bit difficult to see up here by this time of the night, and William wasn't helping his case.
- Emerson could already picture it in his head. The news coming on the next morning, with a report of his dead body being found after attending a school party.
- “That’s not funny, William," he called out.
- But William just chucked more, “Come here. I wanted to show you something,”
- Emerson took a long glance around, then longingly looked back at his car, before walking up to William where he stood at the very edge of the cliff. “Watch your steps, it goes down from here.” William warned.
- The edge of the cliff opened up to a small clearing below where a single tree stood in the middle of it, but what caught Emerson’s attention was the drop down after that that showed this entire city from above.
- Hundreds of city lights glow in the dark, bringing the night to life.
- “Beautiful isn't it?"
- “Yeah,” Emerson whispered, eyes stuck on the view. He had lived here his whole life and hadn't even realized a place like this existed.
- Emreson carefully followed William down the slope by the side, down to the clearing, and as they got closer, he could make out a house up in the tree. William wasted no time in climbing the ladder by the tree truck and Emerson had to look away to keep from staring at his butt.
- Still he followed a few steps behind him, until they got to the very top and William pulled open the small door they used to crawl into the house. William turned suddenly and came face to face with Emerson, he took a step toward Emerson who immediately took one back, brazing himself by the door post.
- “William,” Emerson whispered, heart beating hard in his chest.
- William hummed, and moved even closer, they were standing so close in the dark, that Emerson could feel William breath on his face and faintly see him wet his lips.
- “What are you doing?” Emerson whispered again, as William raised his hand and reached for him. But William hand lightly grazed the shell of his ears as it passed him.
- There was a click and warm light filled the house, Emerson blinked a few times to adjust his eyes to the small space.
- There was a small bookshelf in one corner and a cushion on the floor, at the other end, along with lots of pillows and blankets all nearly folded. There also was a small box to the side.
- Emerson slowly glanced along the space before setting on William who had a smile on his face. “What did you think I was going to do?” William whispered to Emerson.
- He could feel the heat, creeping up his neck as he watched William take off his shoes and crawl over the cushion, sitting cross legged with a pillow on his lap.
- “This is yours?” Emerson asked instead, ignoring William's question.
- Hey didn't know what he thought William was about to do, but he hadn't intended to stop him. It was something that Emerson didn't want to think about, otherwise he would spiral and that wouldn't be good for any of them.
- So he packed it up and locked it up in a box alone with the other thoughts he was not allowed to have.
- “Hmm,” William hummed, “I like to come here, when things get a little overwhelming,”
- Emerson took off his shoes and joined William, but as he stared into his amber eyes. He couldn’t picture William being overwhelmed by anything.
- The light cast everything in a warm colour and he could see from the window the city light below.
- “You get overwhelmed?”
- William brows furrowed at Emerson, “Everybody wants to get away sometimes, don’t you?”
- It was silent for a while as Emerson stared out the window, he sigh and glanced back at William. “All the time.” He said, “Did you make this yourself?” He quickly asked.
- William studied him for a bit and then nodded once, “I kinda was obssession with tress houses when I was kid and begged my mom to build one for me, and this just happened to be my favourite spot.”
- As the night when on, Emerson found himself staring more and more at William, at the soft pink lips that William seem to moist every few minutes, he would the way his tongue ran over his lower lips.
- “Your’e doing it again,” William said, snapping Emerson from his thought.
- “Doing what agan?”
- “Staring,”
- “Oh,” Emerson blinked and glanced up to meet William's eyes, “Sor—”
- “Don’t apologize,” Wiliam cut him off, “Believe me, I quite like the attention.”
- “I…uh, it's just, you are really beautiful,” Emerson whispered, staring right into William's burning eyes.
- “That a first,” William chucked, as he shyly tucked his hair behind his ears, “Thank you.” He whispered, "You are quite handsome yourself, Emerson Zephyr.”
