• Days passed. They drifted past each other in the hallways, like strangers. Emerson refused to speak to William. And William too refused to break first. He wouldn’t apologize.
• This was Emerson’s fault.
• It was the last day of their exams. The last time they would all be here, in the same place, before life carried them in different directions. Emerson should have felt relief, and should have been happy that school was over.
