Chapter 10

  • ADIR’s POV.
  • The moment her body comes in contact with mine, Evanthe freezes and how I love that look on her face. She wasn’t expecting me to be here and I can see that. Well, I was in the area for something and I decided to check on my boss who looks stunning in her red knee length dress which is hugging her figure perfectly. Her hair is pulled into a high ponytail while the red on her lips looks ravishing. My wolf growls inside of me. I am threading a very dangerous part and I am going to be consumed if I don’t take a step back. With that at the back of my head, I take a step away from her putting some reasonable distance between us.
  • “What are you doing here?” She quickly composes herself, “I don’t remember calling you” her eyes travel over me and she nods, taking in my whole sight.
  • “I was in the area ma’am” I tell her, “so I decided to come check in on you. The receptionist told me about your office”
  • “Oh, I see” she gives me a little laugh, “but right now I have a meeting with the CEO. Can we do this when I get back?”
  • “Sure ma’am” I answer with a smile, “I have nothing doing by the way so i can wait”
  • “Okay, I will be back in a while”
  • After nodding, she turns around and walks towards the door but Eva stops, turning her attention back to me. I can see a hint of hesitation in her voice which makes me wonder what’s going on in that head of hers.
  • “Is something wrong?” I ask her.
  • “On a scale of one to ten, how capable are you?”
  • The frown on my face deepens, what is she talking about now? How capable am I in what aspect? Women, who knew with them?
  • “It It depends” I finally answer, drinking in her entire look, “what do you need me to do for you, ma’am”
  • “Find someone”
  • “Find someone?” I repeat after her, leaning against the chair, “I am only a bodyguard, I didn’t know that was part of my job description”
  • “I will pay you whatever you want!” She blurts out much to my amazement, “you just need to..
  • “I am sorry to disappoint you, ma’am but I am only a bodyguard. Finding people is not part of my job description but I will be happy to help. I have a friend who could help you find anyone you want”
  • A look of surprise flashes through her face as she covers the distance between us,
  • “Really? Please, I would like to meet this friend. I want him to find someone for me”
  • “The anonymous CEO?” I cock an eyebrow at her, my lips tilting into a small smirk, “you don’t give up, do you?”
  • “Well, I won’t sit and let someone take food out of my mouth, Adir” she rolls her eyes to the back of her head, “I have a meeting with my father and I will speak to you after that”
  • “Enjoy”
  • With one last look, she turns on her heel and saunters out of the office while my eyes drop to her bum and I clench my jaw together. They were so soft when I held them yesterday but I already made a promise to her and I wouldn't go back on my words. The only thing now is for me to remain as her bodyguard, nothing more, nothing else.
  • My attention shifts to the phone which has just light up on the table and I stretch my hand to pick it up. It is a call from Zoe’s school and it’s that nosy school head who can’t keep her mouth shut. But why would she be calling? Zoe is still in class by now. Shoving any kind of thought to the back of my head, I click on the receive button before pressing the phone against my ear.
  • “Hello”
  • “Miss Eva” her voice comes through and she sounds a little fidgety which makes my brows knot.
  • “This is her bodyguard speaking” I tell her, “the madam is in for a meeting”
  • “Mr Adir, we had to rush Zoe to the hospital!” She drops the bombshell and I spring off the chair.
  • “What? What happened?” Eva is going to go crazy if she hears this. I have only spent a few days with them and I can already tell that she loves her daughter more than anything in this world!
  • “She was just playing with her friends but slumped”
  • “Send me the address of the hospital now, I am on my way”
  • “Okay”
  • The phone Immediately beeps with a message and I make my way out of the room but I come across Eva in the hallway and she looks like she is in a hurry.
  • “Are you leaving already?” She asks me and I nod in the positive. I should tell her about her daughter but I don’t know how she is going to take it. Well, Eva will have my head if anything happens to Zoe and I didn’t tell her.
  • “Zoe is in the hospital” I drop the bombshell and she freezes like her whole world had just come to a standstill.
  • “What do you mean?” She asks in a whisper, “how is she in the hospital? She can not be in the hospital” she starts to fidget.
  • “What do you mean?”
  • “She can not be in the hospital!” She whispers again before turning around and running towards the elevator and I follow her.
  • *****
  • Throughout the twenty minute ride to the hospital, she has called them like five times and told them not to attend to her which kind of makes me wonder what’s actually going on. How could she say no one should attend to her?
  • As soon as I bring the car to a halt, she jumps out and rushes into the hospital while I follow her. Luckily we meet Zoe’s doctor waiting by the reception.
  • “How is she?” Eva asks?
  • “Still unconscious. We haven’t touched her since you said we shouldn’t”
  • “I will take care of her”
  • “How are you related to her though?”
  • “Mum…”
  • “Sister…,” she immediately cuts me off, “she is my sister”
  • The frown on my face intensifies but I don’t say anything. It’s not in my place to get upset about how she chose to take care of her daughter.
  • “Can I see her now? I will have her transferred to another hospital. We have a family doctor”
  • “Fine, I will get started on that but we checked her vitals and we found some unusual things and we..
  • “Let’s have her transferred, Doctor” Eva cuts her off again and he nods before making his way towards the elevator while the two of us remain standing.
  • “We need to go and see her, Adir”
  • “Why did you refuse the doctor’s treatment?”
  • “It’s nothing” she responds, avoiding eye contact with me but I don’t believe her. There is something she isn’t telling me.
  • “Nothing? Her life is in danger and you said no one should touch her?”
  • “It’s nothing to worry about, Adir” she cuts me off again, “now we need to take her out of here. I have a doctor who would check on her”
  • “But they have doctors here”
  • “Well, I don’t want them to touch her” she snaps and i immediately back off. She is like a wounded tiger right now and I don’t want to aggravate her any more.
  • “Fine, I will do as you have said”
  • “Thank you!” She snaps before storming off in anger.
  • A few minutes later, Zoe is already being taken to another hospital while her mother is seated in the passenger’s seat with her head pressed against the headrest.
  • “Are you okay?”
  • “Yes, I am”
  • “Does Zoe have such episodes before? You don’t look really worried!”
  • “She will be fine, it’s just stress”
  • “Is there something you are not telling me?” I don’t know why I am so worried about the little girl. She isn’t related to me in any way but somehow she has a special place in my heart now and I can’t pretend not to care because I fucking do.
  • “Can you stick to your lane, Adir?” Her voice comes out more strained than usual, “you are just the bodyguard, stick to that and don’t go overboard”
  • “Alright… sorry ma’am”
  • Turning my attention back to the road, I clench my jaw together as the car gathers speed.
