Chapter 7
- Luke Huxley had betrayed Vyonne twice, and she was feeling a little down. He told her little story to Warry, and he hung up the phone. Of course, he didn't know that the second before hanging up, her soon-to-be ex-husband had just taken her call.
- Sitting in the car, she frowned. Aside from Warry, she couldn't understand it. The day before yesterday, the man had asked for a lawyer to request a divorce, but at the last moment, it was very slow.
- She surely wasn't stupid enough to think that Luke Huxley was reluctant to part with her. Since she couldn't figure it out, she stopped thinking about it.
- After all, if Luke Huxley wanted a divorce, she would do it sooner or later. Nowadays, she has more important things to do.
- She turned the car around and drove to her house. Her phone rang on the way.
- "Dexie, I have the information on the topic she asked me to research. Do you need it now?" The voice on the other end of the phone chirped immediately as she answered.
- "Yes, send it to my email address. I'll be home soon."
- After hanging up the phone, Dexie's grip tightened on the steering wheel. Her eyes were very cold. Back at her downtown apartment, she quickly checked her email. After examining the document that her subordinate had sent her, Dexie smiled evilly.
- "As expected," this was the true story of her stepsister Roxane.
- Dexie's father, Rodel Domino, was the son-in-law of the Hansley family, so Dexie had her mother's last name, Hansley.
- Her mother, Wendy Hansley, died when she was two years old due to a mental illness. Rodel had raised her alone until she was four years old. She had no relationships with other women. Her grandfather had asked her to remarry.
- Eventually, Rodel married Roxane's mother, Sarry Todd. Roxane naturally adopted her stepfather's last name as a burden from Sarry.
- Due to Rodel's excellent performance in the past, no one doubted the relationship between these three people. Since Dexie had lost her mother when she was a child, and Sarry had always considered her daughter since she married into the family, Dexie always trusted Sarry. In her past life, she accidentally saw a yellowed photo in Rodel's study before dying. It was Rodel and Sarry.
- Judging by the way he looked in the photo, Rodel was still young. She began to suspect that Rodel had already met and had a relationship with Sarry before marrying her mother.
- The so-called "stepdaughter," Roxane, was not necessarily a real stepdaughter either.
- She might have been the illegitimate daughter of Rodel, who had cheated on his wife during marriage. However, before she could verify it, she died in a car accident. Dexie looked at the material in her hand with deep coldness and irony.
- She gently swept Roxane's name off the file and smiled cruelly. "Since you like being a burden so much, I'll let you have your fun," she thought to herself. At Lutheran Hospital, Dexie went to see her uncle.
- "Mrs. Hansley, you are here."
- "Well, how is my uncle today?"
- "Mr. Hansley's condition had not changed. You can look at him and talk more with him."
- "Okay, I'll go talk to him." Dexie entered the ICU. Her uncle, Stephen Hansley, was lying in bed.
- Two years ago, after his uncle retired from the army, he suddenly fell into a coma. Two years had passed, and he was still in a vegetative state.
- Her grandfather had told her that the situation was the same as before her mother died.
- The doctor could not find any cause. He concluded that the Hansley family had a recessive genetic disease that had become dominant in his mother and her uncle. The gene caused the cerebral cortex to lose its function, slowly turning them into vegetables.
- For the past two years, she has been developing a drug that could repair nerve cells in the cerebral cortex. If she succeeds, awakening her uncle could become a possibility. Patients who have been in a vegetative state due to any cause could also benefit from her. As she usually did, she chatted with Stephen for a while.
- There was no need for her to go to the laboratory during this time. She could come back with the Domino family and take revenge on them. She left the hospital building and was heading to the parking lot when someone stopped her at the door.
- Mrs. Dawson?"
- Hearing her name, Dexie raised her head and saw a handsome young man walking towards her. Dexie recognized him as one of Luke Huxley's subordinates, Sam Milvi, from one of the four rich families.
- "Mr. Sam."
- "There's no need to be formal. Call me Sam."
- Sam was particularly excited. He knew what was happening when he saw her leaving the hospital building. He still asked, "Are you here to see your uncle?"
- Dexie nodded and added, "Mr. Sam, I divorced Luke Huxley. You can call me Mrs. Hansley or use my name. Please don't call me Mrs. Dawson anymore. Luke Huxley wouldn't like it, and I dislike it too."
- Sam's eyes widened in disbelief. "What? Does Luke Huxley want to divorce you?"
- When he found out from Harold that Narda was coming home and Luke Huxley was going to divorce Dexie, he hadn't believed it.
- "Does Luke Huxley want to leave his wife for his ex-girlfriend, who abandoned him? That is just shameless," Sam thought to himself.
- Sam looked at Dexie. He had no temper and rarely grumbled. Where else could he find such a good wife? Luke Huxley was crazy! If she were his wife, he would adore her. Why would Luke Huxley go back to his ex-girlfriend?
- "Well, we're divorced. Remember that next time you want to call me."
- Dexie shrugged indifferently, remembered Sam, and left. As Dexie walked away, Sam took several photos of her retreating. It was dinner time when Dexie returned to the Domino family villa.
- "Mrs. Dexie, she's back." In the living room, the Domino family, who had been preparing for dinner, sat down, surprised for a moment when they saw Dexie. They rose to receive her with enthusiasm.
- "Is Dexie back? Why didn't you tell mom before you came back?"
- Sarry intimately grabbed Dexie's hand and greeted her, sliding over the false veneer of a good mother.
- If Dexie hadn't discovered those things, she might have been very pleased. Sarry's hypocritical smile amused her. She silently withdrew her hand from Sarry's, saying with a smile, "This is my house. I can come back whenever I want. What's wrong? Do I need to inform you in advance?" Dexie's words surprised Sarry and made her feel a little upset.
- However, over the years, she has grown accustomed to pretending to be affectionate like a mother. Besides, she still needed Dexie. He couldn't argue with her, so she suppressed her anger.
