Chapter 4

  • Some of the spectators who had gathered couldn't help but laugh quietly when they heard Dexie's words. Although they tried to hide their laughter, Cindy could still hear it, and her face darkened.
  • When Dexie entered the building, Cindy deliberately raised her voice to attract the attention of the other workers, intending to embarrass Dexie in front of everyone. However, Cindy ended up embarrassing herself publicly.
  • She is only a secretary in the office and is not responsible for important work.
  • While attending business parties with Luke, Cindy would only be taken if Luke needed a female companion at the event.
  • After all, she had the best appearance and figure in the office.
  • However, what Cindy thought was her advantage over others turned her into a joke among the rest.
  • This interaction had turned her into a flirtatious employee and someone the president would take to ordinary business parties to entertain the businessmen he couldn't be bothered to personally deal with.
  • The more Cindy thought about it, the angrier she got, and Dexie's gentle smile irritated her.
  • Cindy was extremely dissatisfied that the person behind Dexie had heard everything she said. Instead of meddling in my business, it's better for you to go home and spend some time looking in the mirror. Hopefully, you'll understand what it means when people say that being ugly causes problems.
  • After reprimanding Cindy, Dexie was about to leave when she heard Cindy exclaim, "St. (Mr. Huxley Dawson)!"
  • Cindy pretended to have just noticed Luke and used her clumsy acting skills to express the grievances she suffered from being ridiculed by Dexie.
  • Looking at Luke with red eyes, Cindy bit her delicate red lips and sobbed, "Mr. Huxley Dawson, Mrs. Huxley Dawson... It seems you misunderstood our relationship."
  • Cindy used her words skillfully. If Luke denied their relationship and reprimanded Dexie, he would also embarrass Dexie in front of the group.
  • If Luke acknowledged their relationship, it would solidify her status in the company, and no one would dare provoke her in the future. However, Luke completely ignored Cindy's words, and his cold eyes fell directly on Dexie's slightly disdainful face.
  • Upon hearing Cindy's words, Dexie turned around and saw Luke and Warry, who had just returned from a business meeting.
  • Without missing a beat, she said, "I have signed the divorce papers. Didn't we agree to settle the proceedings today? I have spent an hour waiting for you at the Civil Affairs Office, but you never showed up. You are wasting my time.".
  • Dexie's voice was extremely cold, and there was a hint of accusation.
  • Since the day they got married, this was the first time Dexie had spoken to Luke with such an attitude. Although he knew little about Dexie, Luke knew she didn't have an excellent character. She was the only person he was kind to.
  • As such, Luke was not used to Dexie's haughty attitude towards him.
  • Even he had forgotten that she had mocked him in front of his staff.
  • Luke looked at Dexie. In the past, these eyes were full of love for him, but now they are filled with indifference and unfamiliarity.
  • Dexie's cold and indifferent attitude triggered an inexplicable wave of anger in Luke's heart. As he approached Dexie, his sudden oppressive aura caused a slight shift in her indifferent demeanor, prompting her to take two steps back.
  • "Is that a waste of time? I thought you would spend all your time with me," Luke chuckled. However, the realization that Dexie would proceed with the divorce process in the morning fueled his anger, leading to increasingly unpleasant words.
  • Dexie remained unfazed by Luke's sarcasm, simply shrugging in agreement. She acknowledged that he had wasted too much time with her and that she now needed to make better use of her time.
  • Warry, who was observing from the side, was left speechless and bewildered by the sudden change in Dexie's attitude. How could a woman's feelings shift so drastically in a moment?
  • The employees of Huxley Dawson Corporation, who had been eavesdropping on the conversation, were equally surprised by Dexie's revelation.
  • “Is Mrs. Huxley Dawson really going to divorce Mr. Huxley Dawson? "
  • "Is the divorce started by Mrs. Huxley Dawson?"
  • "Is Mrs. Huxley Dawson dissatisfied with her wealthy husband, Mr. Huxley Dawson?"
  • "Did Mrs. Huxley Dawson misunderstand Mr. Huxley Dawson's relationship with the secretary, Mrs. Wilson?"
  • "But doesn't Mrs. Huxley Dawson know that Mr. Huxley Dawson doesn't like people like Mrs. Wilson?"
  • Dexie's decision puzzled the employees. They found her actions unreasonable from their perspective.
  • To them, anyone who could marry a man like Luke should be grateful and show appreciation every day.
  • Which high-status men are not involved in some kind of scandal outside of their marriages? Who among them does not have extramarital affairs?
  • Luke came from a wealthy and influential family in the capital and was the leader of a large corporation. It was common for him to have relationships outside of his marriage.
  • If she couldn't tolerate this, how could she expect to marry someone better in the future?
  • Except for Dexie, most of the people present shared similar thoughts and feelings. They were all surprised by the news of the divorce.
  • Seeing that Luke had remained silent with a grim expression, Dexie did not carefully read his thoughts as before. Instead, she glanced at her watch to check the time.
  • "There is an hour before the Civil Affairs Office closes for the day. It's not too late for us to go there now. Let's go," Dexie said, taking the lead and walking out of the building without looking back.
  • As she passed through the main door of the office building, she noticed Luke was not following her. When she stopped and looked back, she met his stony gaze.
  • In the past, she was afraid and nervous to look Luke in the eyes, worried about upsetting him and making him unhappy. But it's not like she had cut ties with him, so what was she afraid of?
  • The only reason Luke could hurt her was that she loved him with all her heart.
  • If she didn't love him, he couldn't hurt her anymore.
  • Dexie looked at Luke calmly before saying, "Aren't you going? Don't tell me you regret this and don't want to divorce again."
  • She crossed her arms in front of her chest while smiling indifferently.
  • "You willingly gave me half of your fortune to get my agreement for the divorce. But now that I agree, you refuse to move. What are you trying to do?"
  • As she spoke, Dexie lowered her head and smiled. Her delicate eyes were cold and full of mockery.
