Chapter 5
- "Now that you've found out that I'm not twisted, do you no longer want a divorce?" Dexie provoked him.
- She knew Luke wasn't the type of person who would easily be provoked. However, he was also an extremely arrogant person who hated being embarrassed, which was characteristic of young and powerful men.
- She was pushing his buttons in front of many of his employees. How would he handle it?
- He would not accept it.
- As expected, Luke's face became stormier after speaking. He walked toward her. Dexie didn't wait for him to reach her. She turned around and headed to the parking lot.
- However, as soon as she opened the door, she was stopped.
- She looked up and met Luke's icy scrutiny.
- "Anything else you want to say?" She frowned.
- "What game are you playing?" Luke spoke with a deep voice.
- His voice was pleasant and deep, exuding the natural dignity of a superior.
- In the past, Dexie had enjoyed listening to him speak. Every word he uttered was like a pleasant note that had always attracted her.
- However, Luke was a man of few words and rarely engaged in conversation with her. When he spoke, it was only for brief moments, and he would not add unnecessary words.
- "I will buy the 5% stake your grandfather gave you at the market price of Huxley Dawson Corporation. You don't need to transfer them to me," Luke stated, his gaze fixed on Dexie's calm expression, trying to discern any hidden emotions.
- Was she truly giving up on their marriage, or was she concealing her true feelings? Despite his words, Dexie's expression remained unchanged.
- Luke continued patiently, "I won't mistreat you. Your possessions will always remain yours. You don't have to pretend to be generous in front of me."
- Dexie found Luke's arrogant remark somewhat amusing. Though his words irked her, she couldn't help but burst into laughter.
- "Luke, I signed the divorce papers and have been waiting for you at the Civil Affairs Office. If you had shown up, we would have been divorced. Do you think I'm pretending to be generous? Who do you think I'm pretending for? You?"
- She smiled sarcastically and looked him straight in the eyes.
- "I can't change my mind, even though I've been by your side for a year. Do you think I can change you now just because I'm generous? Don't you have confidence in yourself?"
- For a moment, Luke couldn't argue with any part of her question.
- In fact, if he really wanted to divorce Dexie, he would do it, even if she gave up all her wealth.
- So... Did he really want the divorce?
- Perhaps more urgently than her?
- Did he go to the Civil Affairs Office early in the morning?
- Even after he didn't show up, she ran to the company.
- For a split second, Luke tried to deny it, but in the end, he accepted it.
- "So... do you really want to divorce me? Do you really want nothing?"
- He didn't realize that his usually sharp voice was breaking.
- From the beginning until they ended, he hadn't believed that this woman wanted nothing when she married him.
- However, here they were. She had returned everything that should have been his.
- He realized he had been wronged all along.
- “Yes, I want nothing. I just want to divorce you."
- In her previous life, Luke's determined words before his death haunted her. Every time she remembered them, her heart broke into a million tiny pieces again.
- She did not know the anguish she would experience if she did not decisively divorce Luke.
- It could be bloody when some relationships end, but at least there is still a chance to heal.
- It was better than always hurting yourself. Otherwise, the wound it caused would never heal for the rest of her life.
- Dexie spoke of divorce with such indifference, as if it had nothing to do with her. It seemed like she was talking about something insignificant.
- Luke couldn't deal with the growing and inexplicable panic he had felt since she signed the divorce papers the day before.
- There was still not much emotion on her face, and her expression became more enigmatic. It was like a whirlwind that was going to sweep a storm and destroy Dexie at that moment.
- "Grandpa Huxley Dawson originally gave these shares to me as something to fall back on in case our marriage didn't work out. He was looking out for me in case you hurt me."
- She paused for a moment, as if considering something, and then continued, "Even though you don't love me, you are still generous to me. Now that we are divorcing, I want to cut off our relationship completely. There is no need to keep these shares in my hands." Dexie was not attracted to wealth, even though the mere 5% stake in the company represented billions of assets.
- To some extent, it made Luke feel like she wanted to cut all ties with him.
- "As for the divorce agreement you gave me, I don't need it at all. It's yours. We are divorced. We don't need to stay in touch. What do you think, Mr. Huxley Dawson?"
- Her voice was flat and emotionless.
- Had even the way she addressed him changed from Luke to Mr. Huxley Dawson? It was so strange that he found it extremely repulsive.
- The more Luke suppressed the panic he felt, the more anxious he became. He didn't understand why he was in such a mood, but he was left a little breathless.
- When she finished speaking and Luke didn't respond, she grew impatient. She raised her hand to check her watch and slightly frowned. "It's been less than an hour. Let's go. Waste no more time."
- She went to the car after speaking, got in, and closed the door.
- At this moment, the Huxley-Dawson Corporation was in an uproar.
- Is Mr. Huxley Dawson really getting a divorce?
- Mrs. Huxley Dawson said it herself, so it can't be false, right?
- Don't you see that Mr. Huxley Dawson followed her?
- It seemed like it was true.
- At that moment, many ambitious female employees will take Dexie's place without worrying about Luke's thoughts.
