Chapter 3

  • The woman was the secretary in Luke's secretariat office, and occasionally he would take her to his business parties. After taking her to a few parties, the secretary had become increasingly arrogant. When she spoke to others, she exuded an indescribable sense of arrogance and superiority.
  • It was as if she was waiting to replace Dexie and become the young lady of the Huxley Dawson family.
  • "Mrs. Huxley Dawson, she's here again," the woman said with a slight raise of her chin as she looked at Dexie with disdain.
  • She even deliberately emphasized the word "again."
  • Dexie smiled and greeted politely, "Mrs. Wilson."
  • Cindy Wilson looked disdainfully at Dexie's empty hand.
  • "Mrs. Huxley Dawson, are you not going to deliver lunch for Mr. Huxley Dawson today? Did you hear that the president had discarded all the food you made?"
  • Cindy did not hide her sense of superiority in front of Dexie, and her words were full of sarcasm and resentment.
  • Out of respect for Luke, Dexie had previously chosen not to argue with a clown-like secretary like Cindy. However, Dexie no longer felt the need to hold back, as she didn't even like Luke.
  • As she spoke, Cindy silently observed Dexie. Dressed in a tailored dress, Dexie looked elegant and well-groomed. She had a beautiful and delicate face. Even though Cindy was extremely jealous, she couldn't deny the fact that Dexie was stunningly beautiful.
  • Cindy refused to admit that the woman in front of her exuded a strong sense of pressure and sharpness that she unconsciously wanted to avoid.
  • "How could a pretty face that only knew how to cook for her husband be compared to me, a distinguished graduate of a famous university holding an important position in a large corporation?" Cindy thought.
  • Still, Cindy couldn't help but feel jealous of the seemingly worthless woman in front of her. Due to her jealousy and sense of inferiority, Cindy couldn't help but behave in a way that showed her superiority in front of Dexie.
  • Seeing Dexie's subtle smile, Cindy wanted to continue verbally attacking her. However, in the next moment, her chin was gripped by Cindy. Dexie opened her eyes in disbelief as she looked at the woman in front of her, who was smiling. While the woman smiled, her eyes were icy, and her coldness seemed to penetrate through her bones, making Cindy's heart race with fear.
  • "Have I not been kind to you? Huh?" Dexie smiled as she squeezed Cindy's chin.
  • Although she appeared to be a thin and weak woman, Dexie's firm grip around Cindy's chin made it impossible for Cindy to move at all.
  • "You... let go." Cindy couldn't speak clearly as her mouth was being crushed while Dexie continued to hold her chin.
  • Her delicate features now looked extremely comical and embarrassing.
  • "I have a terrible temper. If you keep struggling, I might dislocate your jaw."
  • Although Dexie spoke casually, her cold eyes made Cindy immediately shut her mouth.
  • I've been wondering why Luke hasn't come home. It turns out he was raising such a flirtatious fox in the office.
  • "You..."
  • Just as Cindy was about to refute Dexie's claim, her eyes lit up when she noticed the person behind her. Then she immediately explained with a face full of complaints.
  • Mrs. Huxley Dawson, you have misunderstood. There is nothing going on between Mr. Huxley Dawson and me. I am just his secretary, and I occasionally accompany him to business meetings and dinners. You have really misunderstood."
  • As Cindy spoke, her eyes were red and teary. One reason was that her lower jaw hurt from Dexie's grip, and the other was because of her poor performance.
  • Dexie smiled as she loosened her grip on Cindy's chin. "What are you talking about? I was just joking."
  • She then took a wet tissue from her bag and wiped the points where she had physical contact with Cindy, as if she had met something dirty.
  • Cindy trembled with anger as she witnessed Dexie's actions.
  • What did she mean by that? Was this haggard woman suggesting that she was dirty? At this moment, Cindy wished she could tear Dexie apart. However, because of the person behind Dexie, Cindy did her best to suppress her anger.
  • "Bitch, let's see how you deal with this mess you've created," she thought to herself.
  • Cindy's anger did not bother Dexie at all.
  • Dexie continued, "I'm sorry, I have mysophobia, and I can't stand this disgusting smell." With that, she tossed the wet tissue into the nearby trash can.
  • Cindy was furious, but she innocently replied, "Mrs. Huxley Dawson, you have misunderstood me. The relationship between Mr. Huxley Dawson and me is not what you imagine it to be."
  • Dexie stared at Cindy with a puzzled look and responded, "Didn't I already mention that I have mysophobia and can't stand awful smells? I was joking. You are narrow-minded and can't even take a joke."
  • Cindy was left speechless.
  • "Dexie, you are a bitch!" She silently gritted her teeth, not wanting to further embarrass herself.
  • However, Dexie added, "Luke must be blind. I can't believe he fell in love with someone like you." Cindy felt a surge of anger but also a sense of satisfaction when she thought of the person behind Dexie.
  • "Dexie, you have set yourself up for failure this time. Don't blame me for being cruel."
  • "Mrs. Huxley Dawson, how... how can you say Mr. Huxley Dawson is blind? There is no difference between myopia and blindness. Although he is not blind, he must be blind enough to bring someone like you to business parties. Who are you looking down on?"
  • Dexie pursed her lips in annoyance, then a sudden realization hit her. "Oh, but I've also heard that he only takes you to ordinary business dinners. For important and grand parties, he only brings Warry."
  • Cindy's heart sank, knowing Dexie's words would be unpleasant to hear.
  • "That would make sense too. Luke is blind but not stupid. He knows you are foolish and terrible with words. Bringing you to high-level banquets could offend important clients and cause him trouble," Dexie remarked.
  • Cindy's face darkened. "You... He brought you to ordinary business dinners because he really couldn't be bothered with them. It's not necessarily a bad thing to make sure of some trash."
  • Dexie delivered these malicious words in a flat and monotonous voice, devoid of anger. The directness of her words made them more impactful for the listener.
  • “After all, this was her only value to the company. What do you think? "Dexie finished with an elegant smile, showing no signs of fierceness even after being provoked by the secretary, who was secretly flirting with her husband.
