Chapter 14 You’re Not Trying to Get Me Drunk, Right?

  • Since Roy had to wait for his meal to be served, we were just sitting in the room awkwardly. I wanted to get the drive back, so I asked, “Can’t we take a step back, Mr. McGowan?”
  • He answered, “I saved you again.”
  • That was not what I wanted, but I nodded anyway. “Yes, you did save me, and three times at that, so I’m very grateful. I know I shouldn’t have escaped the first time, and I regretted that, but can’t you change your terms?”
  • Roy stared at me sharply. “What else do you have but your body?”
  • I wanted to say money, but this guy was richer than I was; far richer than I was. A moment later, the waiter came back in to lay out the exquisite food before Roy. Aside from that, there was also a bottle of Lafite, while I had nothing but a glass of water.
  • Roy laid out a napkin on his thigh and started cutting into his food, enjoying it.
  • I sipped from my glass of water, then I came up with a plan. “I’m very sorry for wasting your time, Mr. McGowan. Here, let me fill your glass up.”
  • A smile curled his lips, and he finished the wine in one gulp. “At least you have some manners.”
  • I refilled his glass while smiling. “You’ve helped me out many times, Mr. McGowan, but I haven’t thanked you yet. This is the least I can do.”
  • Roy held the glass of wine up, but he didn’t drink it this time. Instead, he swirled it around. “Say, you can’t be trying to get me drunk so you can take the drive away, right?”
  • I shivered. Sh*t. Is this guy Dumbledore? How did he even see through me? “Of course not. I’m not that kind of person.” I beamed at him and went back to my seat, but I started fidgeting.
  • He finished the wine again. “Bet you don’t even have the guts too. Here, take the fruit salad and tiramisu. They aren’t up to par.”
  • So all I get for that is a fruit salad and tiramisu? Well, that was depressing. On the other hand, Roy looked like he was in a good mood. I mean, he was having steak with red wine, so what could be more leisurely than that?
  • He finished the whole bottle of red wine when we were done, and he was looking tipsy. The gaze he gave me had also changed to one of seduction instead of indifference. God, that was sexy. Upon noticing that, I took the chance to ask, “You’re drunk, Mr. McGowan. Shall I ask Steven to take you back?”
  • He held his forehead. “D*mn it. I got ahead of myself. I’ll lie down on the sofa. You do whatever you want.”
  • Nice. Even fate is on my side today. I didn’t do anything, but he got himself drunk by himself anyway, so of course I was going to leave, but not now; I wanted to wait until he was asleep.
  • Ten minutes later, Roy’s breathing turned calmer and more stable, so I poked his arm carefully. “Mr. McGowan? Mr. McGowan, are you asleep?”
  • Apparently, he was sound asleep, as he didn’t even move an inch. He looked gentler than he usually was, and his eyelashes gleamed under the light. His breathing was shallow, and he looked like a harmless man. This is my chance.
  • I carefully rummaged through his coat’s pocket, but there was nothing there. But I saw him pocketing the drive back at the front door. Hm, if it’s not here, maybe it’s in his pants’ pocket. I held my breath and observed him closely in case he woke up. At the same time, I slid my hands into his pants’ pocket, but it ran deep, and since he was sitting down, his pants were wrapped around his thigh tightly. When I rummaged around his pocket, I could even feel the tautness of his muscles.
