Chapter 10 Take Her Away

  • I froze, then I turned around to face him again, smiling stiffly. “You’re joking, aren’t you, Mr. McGowan?”
  • Roy held up a white USB drive. “Something’s in here. Can you guess what it is?”
  • “I…” God d*mn it! “Mr. McGowan, it’ll just sully your eyes. There’s no need to keep it, you know.” I gave him my sincerest smile. “If you like gravure idols, I have a few recommendations here, but please give that to me.”
  • Maybe my sincerity moved him a little, so he beckoned me ahead, and I stared at the USB drive he was holding. If I had a tail, I would have wagged it so he’d give me the drive. “I’m a businessman. If you want to take something from me, then I’ll need something in return,” he said seriously, but the gaze he was giving me sure didn’t look that way.
  • I quickly realized what he was getting at, and I shot him a look of horror. “Mr. McGowan, that is not what a gentleman should do.”
  • He reveled in my horror, and he smirked. “I am a gentleman, but I am also a man.”
  • “You animal,” I mumbled as I turned away.
  • Upon hearing that, he cupped my chin. “What did you say?” he asked.
  • “Huh? What?” I took two steps back, putting some distance between us. “Um, I was saying you’re a rich, handsome, powerful, and talented man.” After that, I smiled.
  • He knew I was just fooling around, and that ruined his mood. “Get to the point.”
  • I stopped smiling now. “The point is, you’re a brilliant man, and countless women would kill to date you. You can get any woman you want if you just say the word. Me? I’m just a divorced woman who got drugged and had her nudes taken by a b*stard. I’m a sullied lady, so I’m not worth your time.”
  • “Finished?”
  • “Yes.”
  • He pulled his hand back and kept the drive in his drawer. “I won’t force anyone to do what they don’t want to. If you’re done, you may go out now.”
  • What? But I haven’t gotten what I wanted yet. I grabbed his sleeve and pleaded, “Please, Mr. McGowan, can we make a deal? Those photos mean nothing to you, but they might ruin my reputation. I can pay you! Fifty thousand? A hundred grand? No, two hundred grand!”
  • Roy flicked my hand away and arched his eyebrow. “I don’t need money.”
  • I rubbed the back of my hand, realizing that paying him with money was a bad idea. He might feel insulted, even, and obviously, he was fresh out of patience. “Security, take this woman away.”
  • Then, the security guards dragged me off and hauled me out of the company. A bunch of people were watching the spectacle, and some even said I deserved it for seducing their boss. D*mn it! I didn’t seduce him. It’s the other way around! I got thrown out because I refused to give in!
  • But then, it wasn’t like I could say that though, since they wouldn’t believe it either. As I walked out of the building with my phone in hand, I realized men were all pigs. I thought Roy was a kind hero who saved me from hell, but in the end, he was nothing but an opportunistic piece of scum.
