Chapter 3 Insincerity

  • “You! Very well!”
  • Theresa felt her blood rushing to her head, yet she had no choice but to put her hand down. If looks could kill, the current Elliott would probably be riddled with holes by now.
  • “That's what I'm talking about. You have such a fiery temper. No wonder you're having irregular periods.”
  • “Shut up! I asked you here to treat my grandfather, not to spout nonsense!”
  • Elliott saw that the woman was teetering on the edge of an explosive outburst, yet she could only respond with a fierce glare and keep her mouth firmly shut.
  • Just you wait, woman.
  • Once I've cured your grandfather's illness, I'll deal with you.
  • Even if you beg for mercy on your knees, I will never forgive you!
  • Quickly, the car entered a district of mansions.
  • Compared to the city, the greenery here was abundant and could be seen everywhere along the roadside.
  • They arrived at the Rudowski residence.
  • At that time, a considerable number of people were gathered.
  • Melvin Rudowski had three sons. The eldest was Corvin Rudowski, the second was Gavin Rudowski, and the youngest was Devin Rudowski.
  • A person's growth is greatly influenced by the family they grow up in.
  • However, despite Melvin having spent his lifetime dominating the business world and establishing a substantial family fortune, none of his sons seemed capable of taking over the reins.
  • As soon as Theresa stepped through the door, Pedro Rudowski, Corvin's son, asked, “Theresa, didn't you insist on bringing back Dr. Albus? So, where is this miracle doctor you spoke of?”
  • On the side, Thalia Rudowski, Gavin's daughter, chimed in, “Theresa, don't forget that you were the one who staked your position as the general manager on this. You promised to bring back Dr. Albus to cure Grandpa's illness.”
  • Everyone in the living room turned to look at Theresa.
  • At once, Theresa felt a bit uneasy. After all, she had previously assured her family that she would bring back Albus.
  • But now she had only brought back his mentee.
  • Moreover, he seemed like a rather unreliable pervert.
  • Suddenly, Theresa felt a wave of despair.
  • However, given the current situation, she hoped sincerely that he could indeed cure her grandfather's illness just as Albus had claimed.
  • Theresa turned to reveal Elliott standing behind her, saying, “Dr. Albus had to step out for some business, but he has sent his mentee, Elliott, to treat Grandpa.”
  • All eyes suddenly shifted onto Elliott, and many were on the verge of bursting into laughter.
  • He was in hemp clothing and carrying a dirt-colored backpack. The total cost of his ensemble likely didn't exceed fifty.
  • When Elliott noticed everyone's attention on him, he ran his fingers through his hair, flashing a smile he believed to be quite charming.
  • Is this guy just some random bloke they picked up from god knows where?
  • “Theresa, you're a total disappointment. You're nothing but a deceiver. You could have at least found a reliable actor!”
  • Pedro let out a sigh, shaking his head.
  • Immediately following, Thalia also spoke up. “Theresa, don't take it the wrong way, but Grandpa adores you so much. He wholeheartedly wants to hand over the company to you. Aren't you afraid of breaking his heart?”
  • Even Theresa's father, Devin, couldn't help but speak up at this point, his tone carrying a hint of frustration. “Theresa, this... is absolutely ridiculous!”
  • Theresa, who was already lacking in confidence, felt even more so at this moment that bringing Elliott back was a foolish decision.
  • Corvin looked at Elliott disdainfully and scolded, “Where did this country bumpkin come from? How dare you deceive the Rudowski family? Leave immediately. Do you really think you belong here?”
  • Everyone assumed that if Elliott had any sense, he would surely leave at that moment.
  • Yet, Elliott seemed oblivious to all of this. He simply asked in an indifferent tone, “How do you know I can't if you won't give it a shot?”
  • Thalia scoffed, “Do you think you're worthy?”
  • “Of course! If I'm not mistaken, you often feel weak all over, don't you? There's some slight inflammation and swelling in your private area. If you don't understand, this condition is commonly referred to as an STD. In the future, you'd best be more careful. And you, have you ever felt your memory slipping and an unbearable pain when you urinate? Let me tell you, this is a sign of kidney failure and it needs to be treated! And you, you're unsteady on your feet, and your complexion is pale. Don't push yourself too hard. As a man, it's important to be strong, but you can't rely on medicine all the time.”
  • Elliott looked at the individuals before him and pointed out their health issues one by one. This immediately caused their expressions to fluctuate between shock and disbelief, yet they found themselves unable to refute his claims.
  • The symptoms Elliott had described didn't differ even slightly from the results they had obtained during their examination.
  • “Stop talking nonsense and get the hell out of here!” Corvin roared, his face dark.
  • “Kidney failure isn't a trivial matter. It can be life-threatening when it flares up! Practice moderation, young man,” Elliott advised, shrugging.
  • His words nearly sent Corvin into a fit of rage.
  • Observing from the sidelines, Theresa, having absorbed Elliott's words and noting Corvin's evident embarrassment and anger, suddenly had a clear understanding of the situation. She was certain that Elliott's assertions were correct.
  • Not only did he identify the issues with her health, but he even accurately diagnosed the illnesses of her family members.
  • Is he as incredible as Dr. Albus claimed?
  • Just as an awkward silence filled the living room, a middle-aged man in glasses and a white lab coat came rushing down from the second floor. His face was a mask of panic as he ran and shouted, “It's bad. Old Mr. Rudowski... is in a critical condition!”
  • No sooner had the words been spoken than the living room echoed with cries of despair.
  • “Dad, you can't just leave like that!”
  • “Grandpa, don't go!”
  • The crowd in the living room rushed upstairs in unison.
  • On the second floor, atop the pristine white sheets of a bed lay a frail old man with snowy white hair.
  • At that moment, Melvin was barely breathing.
  • The entire Rudowski family knelt in front of the bed, their faces etched with sorrow as they wailed in agony. Yet, to Elliott, there was an inkling of insincerity in their cries.
  • “Dad, don't leave me!”
  • “Dad, you never mentioned how the company would be divided. What are we supposed to do now?”
  • “Grandpa, it's all because of Theresa's reckless blabber. She found a con artist from who knows where; otherwise, you would definitely get better!”
  • “Exactly, I believe Theresa simply isn't qualified to be the company's general manager.”
  • Theresa felt as if she had been struck by lightning.
  • She could hardly believe it. Her grandfather was still alive, yet her family's primary concern was to distribute his wealth and relieve her of her duties.
  • Just as she was at a loss for a rebuttal, a familiar male voice resonated from behind her.
  • “Couldn't you all at least wait until Old Mr. Rudowski passed away before dividing his assets? Your lack of respect is appalling. I bet that even if he had but a single breath remaining, you'd annoy him to his death!”
