Chapter 10 Making A Name

  • Howard held the silver needle in his hand, while his other hand was locating the girl's acupoints.
  • In the next instant, the silver needle was aimed straight at the girl.
  • Suddenly, a loud thud rang out.
  • The silver needle had slipped from Howard's hand, embedding itself in the wall.
  • Howard turned around in anger. “Who did that? Who's interfering with my acupuncture?”
  • At that point, Elliott and Paul had already entered the emergency room.
  • “Don't attempt what you're not capable of. Your actions could lead to the girl's death,” Elliott said.
  • When Howard laid eyes on Elliott, his gaze was filled with resentment. “On what grounds do you claim that I would kill the girl? Didn't you see I was treating her?”
  • Elliott approached Howard, folded his arms, and raised an eyebrow. “So, what does the girl have?”
  • Following closely behind Elliott, Paul nodded toward Howard, signaling Howard to speak up.
  • Suppressing his anger, Howard disclosed the girl's illness. “The pulse is smooth and steady, alternating between weak and strong, accompanied by symptoms of bloating. It's clearly a case of diarrhea in a child.”
  • As he spoke, Howard pressed on the girl's abdomen, causing her eyebrows to furrow in discomfort.
  • “It hurts...” The girl extended her hand. The discomfort was etched on her face, and it took on a pathological flush.
  • Howard thought his judgment was spot-on, grinning with satisfaction as he said, “See that? These are the clear signs of a child's diarrhea. I intend to use silver needles to stimulate acupoints, aiming to aid the girl's recovery. What do you know?”
  • Howard was indeed an honor student in the Faculty of Traditional Medicine. It was precisely because of this that he had previously been highly regarded by Paul.
  • Within the traditional medicine department at Hofcaster General Hospital, aside from Paul, Howard's acupuncture skills were impressive.
  • Elliott stood before the bed, chuckling sarcastically. “If I were to call you ignorant, you'd probably take it as a compliment!”
  • “What? How dare you call me ignorant?” Howard glared at Elliott in anger, but due to Paul being present, he didn't make a move.
  • At that moment, the girl began to breathe rapidly, and the machines by her side started to sound their alarms.
  • Beep! Beep! Beep!
  • The nurse beside them was taken aback, aware that the girl's condition had worsened. “Dr. Collier, what do we do now?”
  • Before Paul could speak, Elliott had already pulled out his own acupuncture kit.
  • This time, Elliott held eighteen silver needles in one hand. With each movement of his hand, the silver needles found their place on the girl's body.
  • Starting from the abdomen, a constellation pattern was cultivated.
  • “W-What's this?” Paul was startled.
  • At that moment, even Paul couldn't discern what kind of acupuncture skills those were. He was simply stunned by Elliott's incredible speed of hand movements.
  • “What are you doing?” Howard stepped forward to stop Elliott.
  • With a stern expression, Elliott held back Howard. “If you don't want the girl to die, then feel free to take action.”
  • “D*mn it! How dare you use the silver needles without permission?” Howard roared.
  • Seeing that Elliott dared to take action even with Paul present, Howard intended to use it to drive Elliott away.
  • With a subtle smile, Elliott said, “I'm the lead doctor. Why shouldn't I be able to use a needle?”
  • Suddenly, the girl started coughing violently, and her face flushed bright red.
  • “Elliott, you're done for! If anything happens to the little girl, it's not just you, but the whole department will bear the consequences!” Howard said with smug satisfaction.
  • Just then, the girl suddenly sat up, expelling a large amount of vomit.
  • In the earth-toned vomit, it seemed as though something was squirming, accompanied by a foul smell.
  • The nurses, timid by nature, recoiled to the side upon seeing these items.
  • “W-What are those?”
  • “Why would the girl spit out worms?”
  • Elliott turned around, explaining to the crowd, “This is an infantile parasitic disease. The little girl has been living near the pond since childhood, and a parasite triggered the disease. I used my Eighteen Stellar Technique to draw the worms out. Now that the girl has expelled the parasite, her illness will be cured. Along with taking the medicinal soup for internal recovery, she'll be completely healed.”
  • Beep! Beep! Beep!
  • The equipment at the side began to operate normally, and the girl's condition stabilized.
  • The nurses were somewhat thrilled. “It's true! She really has improved!”
  • “Dr. Elliott, you truly are impressive!”
  • “You knew what was going on without even checking the pulse?”
  • “That's truly impressive!”
  • A group of nurses praised Elliott, and Elliott responded with a smile. To be frank, this feels good.
  • Howard, standing off to the side, was filled with frustration. “So what? Dr. Collier is here, and he dared to act without seeking permission! That's against the hospital's rules! I'm going to report him to the hospital!”
  • Initially, the position of the lead doctor was reserved for Howard. However, unexpectedly, Elliott appeared halfway and snatched the position away. Naturally, Howard harbored a deep resentment for Elliott.
  • Paul then said, “Howard, you also used a needle before I arrived just now. Besides, I asked Elliott for help. Fundamentally, there's nothing wrong with what he did. I won't hold you responsible, so let's just leave it at that.”
  • Had it not been for Elliott's presence this time, Paul would have treated the situation as if dealing with a child's diarrhea. Such an approach could have potentially led to a medical accident.
  • Therefore, this time, the credit was attributed to Elliott by Paul.
  • Howard looked at Paul with dissatisfaction. It's clear that Dr. Collier is favoring Elliott!
  • “Hmph!” With a cold huff, Howard left the emergency room.
  • Paul stepped forward and said to Elliott, “Dr. Elliott, my apprentice tends to be a bit arrogant and prideful. Please, don't take it to heart.”
  • Elliott merely nodded in response. His sole purpose was to treat the sick.
  • However, if someone were to cross him, he certainly wouldn't let it slide. He was no saint with a heart full of kindness.
  • After a series of examinations, the girl's condition stabilized, and Elliott personally penned a prescription.
  • After emerging from the emergency room, the burly man lunged at Paul once more, seizing him in a firm grip. “Doctor! Doctor! How is my daughter doing now?”
  • “She's all right now. The parasites living inside her body have been removed.” Perhaps fearing the burly man wouldn't trust him, Paul showed him the collected parasites.
  • The foul stench permeated the hallway, so much so that some patients, upon catching a whiff, began to retch.
  • The burly man stared intently at the petri dish. While others may not have recognized what lay within, he did. These were the parasites that resided in the pond. “These really came from the pond! Ah, it's my fault.”
  • Elliott seemed to understand what a parent would feel in such a situation, so he stepped forward and patted the man's shoulder. “Everything's fine now. Just make sure the girl doesn't go near the pond in the future.”
  • “Are you also one of the doctors who treated my daughter?” the burly man asked, taken aback. This man mentioned those symptoms before he stepped into the emergency room, right?
  • Paul approached with a smile. “He is the lead doctor of your daughter's treatment this time. He's Dr. Elliott.”
  • “Thank you! Thank you, Dr. Elliott!” The burly man grasped Elliott's hand tightly.
  • Although it was exaggerated, Elliott still felt comforted.
  • The girl had fully recovered after a week in the hospital. Before her discharge, the burly man delivered a banner as a token of gratitude for Elliott's treatment.
  • From then on, the tales of Elliott's deeds became a topic of conversation within the traditional medicine department.
  • Initially, patients were hesitant to seek treatment due to Elliott's youth. However, over time, people began to request appointments specifically with Elliott.
  • From the shadows, a pair of eyes was constantly observing Elliott. Upon seeing that the patients had chosen to be treated by Elliott, this observer felt an intensified resentment toward him.
