As I mused over the matter, I arrived at my house. After parking my car in the garage, I took my bag and entered the elevator. Opening the door, I heard laughter coming from the living room. Jolene was sitting on the sofa next to my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, laughing as they chatted together.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Eliza turned around and asked rather rudely, “Finally back now?”
Such rude questioning often happened in the past, but I was very upset about it on this day. I admitted that seeing Jolene sitting here and having a good time with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law had touched a raw nerve.
Even though I ignored her, Eliza did not feel awkward at all. Instead, she stood up and stopped me. “Lilian, what were you doing at the hospital today?”
I looked at her in surprise. How did Eliza know about me going to the hospital?
Before I could speak, my mother-in-law immediately chimed in, “What? Didn’t Lilian go to work? How did she end up being at the hospital?”
