Chapter 13 I Will No Longer Tolerate This! The Assault Begins!

  • “Jolene, you’re...” While clenching my fist in an attempt to suppress my rage, I asked in surprise.
  • Before Jolene could speak up, my mother-in-law interjected in a straightforward manner, “Not only did Jolene fall ill, but she had thinned after going through such a rough patch. She is your best friend, so we took her in as we didn’t want to leave her alone and helpless.”
  • For a split second, I was almost tempted to smash the bag beside me onto their heads. Not only did these two b*stards lie to me, but they were attempting to move into my house, which was definitely crossing a line!
  • Meanwhile, Carson glanced at me nervously as he said, “Honey, are you upset about this? I could do nothing about it since it was my mother’s decision...”
  • That jerk tried to shrug all responsibility off to his mother without even mentioning having Jolene move out. However, I paused for a moment when I realized it was weird that someone as stingy as my mother-in-law would offer to help Jolene, which would only mean that she already knew Jolene bore her grandson.
  • Oh. My. Gosh. What the f*ck have I done to deserve this? However, I could only force a smile as I suppressed the burning rage within me. “I’m not upset about this, as Jolene is my best friend. It’s important to help a friend out, so I wouldn’t object to it.”
  • “I just know my honey is the best!” As soon as he heard me say so, that jerk was so happy that he even flattered me.
  • “Jolene, you have to stay strong!” Despite the rage within me, I walked over to her while schooling my expression into one of concern.
  • Her eyes reddened as tears rolled down her cheeks. “Lily, why do I deserve such a miserable life?”
  • “Jolene, you’re pregnant, so you shouldn’t feel bad for those dregs of society! The fact that the jerk wouldn’t marry you probably meant that he never loved you anyway, so if it were up to me, I would say that you should abort the baby since it is dead anyway, and continue on with your life! I don’t understand why you would insist on carrying a baby for that scum!”
  • Not only did I refer to Carson as scum, but I said the same of his family, even going as far as suggesting Jolene to abort the baby, which was totally unacceptable to my in-laws. My mother-in-law thus stopped me from going down that line of thought, “How dare you mention stuff like that when Jolene is in so much grief!”
  • This old b*tch is perhaps afraid that I would insist on having Jolene abort the baby, I surmised while mentally scoffing, but put on an innocent expression as I asked, “What’s the matter, Mom? It’s for her own good! She’s my friend, so I wouldn’t put her in harm’s way no matter what you think of her! Who would want to marry her if she has a child with her? Jolene, you should abort the baby! I’ll make time to accompany you to the hospital!” With much vigor, I offered to help.
  • My mother-in-law exchanged a glance with Carson, during which Carson stopped her from saying something with a stern glare. Meanwhile, Jolene began weeping as she said, “Lily, just take this as me being a b*tch! If you don’t want me here, I’ll leave immediately! I won’t trouble you anymore!”
  • “I never realized how righteous of a person you are, Jolene!” While not knowing if they managed to detect the scorn behind my words, I exclaimed out loud as Jolene kept up with her acting before turning to hug me as she bawled.
  • “Alright, don’t overthink this. Just stay here in the meantime.” Despite my indifference toward her circumstances, I feigned concern as I patted her back in a consoling manner. Besides, I came to a decision about how I should proceed. Since this side chick decided to move into my house, I would take it as a sign from the gods that I should seize the opportunity to f*ck up her life. I would reclaim everything the Boyers swindled and took from me!
  • “Lily, you must be exhausted since you just got back from a business trip, so why don’t you take a bath and rest up for a while?” Perhaps conscience existed somewhere within him, as Carson seemed to feel a little embarrassed upon noticing my sincerity toward Jolene.
  • After giving him a nod, I shifted my gaze toward the messy floor in the living room, which I noticed as soon as I entered that it looked the same compared to when I dropped by last night. It would only mean that the Boyers and Jolene must’ve moved in some time ago. On the other hand, Carson’s parents weren’t at home when I dropped by, so he and Jolene must’ve taken the opportunity to enjoy themselves.
  • Upon noticing my gaze lingering on the floor in the living room, Carson apologized, “Lily, I’ll remind my parents to keep the house clean next time.”
  • I responded with a cheerful smile, “They are not getting any younger, so let them live as they wish. You don’t have to be so scrupulous around me.”
  • My lenience earned me his gratitude, but I no longer had the strength to put up with these jerks, thus turned to retire to my room after telling them I was exhausted. Carson followed suit before pouring me a cup of cola, then went on to prepare the bath for me.
  • As soon as the door was closed, I laid eyes on the bed in my room, which reminded me of the noises I heard coming from here yesterday. At the thought of that, I felt nauseous, my stomach churning vigorously. Thus, I figured that I should begin my revenge since they already launched their attack, so with a deliberate and loud cry, I collapsed onto the floor.
