Chapter 12

  • After Sky posted our photos, we headed to the club. We showed our tickets at the entrance and were promptly allowed inside. As we made our way through the club, we approached a table where two girls, who appeared to be celebrities, sat. The moment they spotted Sky, they couldn't contain their excitement and screamed her name before pulling her into a warm hug.
  • "It's so on tonight!" one of the girls declared with enthusiasm.
  • The other girl whispered in Sky's ear, and Sky responded loudly so I could hear as well, "Yes, Mag, but please don't ask her silly questions. She just wants to unwind," Sky said.
  • Then they introduced themselves. "Hi, I'm Mag, and this is Maggie. We are twins and very famous," Mag said, and I nodded. "Nice to meet you both. I'm Amy," I responded politely.
  • Sky excused herself to get tequila shots, leaving me with Mag and Maggie. Maggie's scrutinizing stare was making me uncomfortable until her sister Mag intervened. "I'll get us tequila, I want shots," Sky said before leaving.
  • As Mag and Maggie chatted, a beautiful voice interrupted our conversation. "You girls enjoying yourselves?" Mag responded, "Yes, Bailey, thanks for inviting us." I quickly realized that Bailey was the host of the party.
  • Bailey replied nonchalantly, "You better. I paid nearly a million for this."
  • "Did you invite him too?" Maggie asked.
  • "Of course I did, but he's not around, and honestly, I don't care. This is my night back to the single club," Bailey said without a care.
  • "As if you were ever in a relationship," Maggie finally chimed in. They all took shots together, and I just observed the conversation quietly.
  • Bailey spotted someone and said, "I spot my target. I'll see you guys later."
  • "I always wanted to talk to her," Mag pouted.
  • "Oh look, she's coming to us," Maggie said. Bailey stopped her attempts to approach the person.
  • "This is my lucky day," Mag noted. The lady they were talking about, Sophia, was dressed in a stunning red outfit, holding onto the arm of a handsome man and flanked by two muscular bodyguards.
  • Sophia greeted us with a bit of condescension, "Hello, peasants!"
  • "Hi Sophia, thank you so much for coming," Bailey eagerly responded, while Mag and Maggie just stared in admiration.
  • "Nice party, Bailey, right?" Sophia asked.
  • "Yes," Bailey responded with enthusiasm.
  • Sophia handed Bailey her card and said, "Okay, take my card. Give me a call; let's talk business." She glanced at me with a piercing look.
  • "Welcome to New York, Amelia."
  • As Sophia confidently walked away, still linked to the man and followed by her bodyguards, Mag and Maggie gossiped about her.
  • "She's so pretty," "Yea right, if I were her, I wouldn't need anything,"
  • "Just imagine, my daddy so rich like that, I will not even need to pose for these cameras for the rest of my life,"
  • "Or I will just clone myself, hehe."
  • I couldn't help but wonder why Sophia's name seemed so familiar. How could this be? How could he do this to me?
  • "I'm back; let's get this party started," exclaimed Sky, returning with shots. "Not taking no for an answer," she said, handing me a mini glass. I took it and downed the whiskey in one go, eager to escape my thoughts about Evan's recent antics. As I reached for another glass of tequila, Mag and Maggie gave me strange looks, and I could tell they were silently gossiping about me.
  • "Let's calm down," Sky advised, looking concerned about my drinking, but I ignored her. "Girl, I'm calm," I insisted, gulping down the drink. Mag and Maggie continued to eye me oddly.
  • Suddenly, Sky's attention was drawn to a man. "He's so hot," she exclaimed. Following her gaze, I saw a man with piercing green eyes who had caught her interest. "No way," I muttered.
  • "Yes way," Sky insisted. "I am going to seduce him," she declared, winking at the man, who responded with a seductive smile. He was dressed in denim jeans and an unbuttoned office shirt, and I couldn't help but notice red lipstick on his collar, the same shade as what Sophia had worn earlier.
  • Worried that he might have a girlfriend, I expressed my concerns. "Look, he has lipstick on his collar. What if he has a girlfriend?"
  • Sky dismissed my worries, stating, "Don't worry, he's one of them."
  • "What?" I asked, confused.
  • "He's an escort, Amy," she clarified. "And I love his lips," she added before giving me a peck on the forehead and heading towards the man. As she flirted with him and he returned her advances with a smile, I couldn't help but wonder what they were discussing. I noticed that Sky offered to buy him a drink, but he declined and instead bought her one.
  • Meanwhile, Mag and Maggie were bombarding me with questions. They wanted to know about my brief involvement with Evan and why he wasn't present. I felt overwhelmed and wasn't sure how much I should reveal.
  • "I will be back," I announced, standing up to excuse myself. Mag or Maggie, it was difficult to tell them apart, asked, "What? Where are you going?"
  • "To the restroom, I need to pee," I explained. The one who had questioned me stood up and offered to escort me since I was new to the place and might not know my way around. Reluctantly, I followed her into the restroom.
  • After using the facilities and washing my hands, I turned from the hand dryer and was confronted by the beautiful figure again. She looked me up and down with disdain. "What did Evan even think when he chose you as a girlfriend?" she sneered.
  • "She's just a peasant who can't even walk in heels for more than five minutes," she commented talking to a woman who was washing her hands. As it seemed people in this place worshipped her, they both laughed, eyeing the high heels I was holding. "I mean, who can compete with the only heir Sophia, the beauty slayer," the woman added.
  • "I beg your pardon?" I stammered.
  • "Of course you do. Listen here, you thought you could come from wherever and steal from a successful artist who I've built?" Sophia furiously asked as the other woman left, leaving just the two of us in the restroom.
  • "I didn't..." I tried to defend myself.
  • "Yes, you did. Maybe not yet, but that's your plan, right?" Sophia accused. I stared back at her, taken aback by her hostility.
  • "Do you even know me?" I asked, genuinely curious how she could be so mean to someone she didn't even know.
  • "Well, let's just say I don't. I got enough information from my sources, and that's all I need.. Listen, if I were you, I'd go back and pack to go back to wherever you came from because here, I won't give you peace, especially now that I see you're a bitch," she continued, her words dripping with malice.
  • I'd had enough of her arrogance. I was never one to be easily scared, especially when I had truth on my side. "How much do you want? Name it, and it will be sent to your account right this minute," she offered. And I pretended to think more of thinking of how much I wanted.
  • A smile started to form on Sophia's lips. That was my intention, to get her to to think I could be bought off easily. I pretended to ponder her question for a moment. "Are you scared?" I asked, challenging her.
  • "What?" She sounded taken aback by my question.
  • "Yes, Sophia, are you scared?" I asked, taking a step closer. "Do you fear that I'll steal Evan from you?"
  • Sophia looked confused and tried to brush off my question. "Why would I be scared? Trust me, if I want Evan, I can call him, and he'll be here by my side in an instant."
  • I decided to push further, unwilling to let her belittle me by taking a step closer to her, now we were face to face and almost touching. "I mean, look at me. I'm a famous influencer, my daddy is a billionaire. And who's Evan? He's..."
  • "Your ex," I interjected, finishing her sentence, leaving her momentarily speechless.
  • I stood my ground and confronted her. "Just move on, Sophia, and leave us alone."
  • Sophia didn't back down. "Oh, so you think he's moved on with you? Even if he has, does his career allow him to?"
  • She made me pause for a moment. "You see, he's clearly not in your league," she added, clearly trying to get under my skin.
  • But I refused to let someone else dictate my worth. "He loves me, Sophia," I said, trying to convince myself as much as her.
  • "Look at you, you sound pathetic. You can't even convince yourself," she scoffed.
  • "Evan will never love anyone like he loves me. He's addicted to my body, and if he were here, he would agree," I argued, trying to hold my ground.
  • Sophia didn't back down. "She's right. I am addicted to her."
  • I heard a voice that sounded familiar, and as I looked behind Sophia, who was now smiling triumphantly, my heart skipped a beat.
