Chapter 16 The Plan

• Sheila's brow furrowed as she listened to Commander Jorah. She knew the stakes were high, but the risks of using Luca as bait were too risky. “Commander, I understand how desperate you are about this situation, but I cannot in good conscience convince the King to agree to this plan. Luca is too vital an ally. We cannot afford to lose him. There must be another way to rescue the captured elves without putting him in harm's way or letting him get taken by others.”
• Jorah's expression hardened, his frustration evident. “Sheila, you don't understand. We don't have time for all this. Every moment we delay increases the chance that those elves will be killed or tortured. Can you live peacefully knowing that those elves are out there suffering? We have to act now before it's too late!” He yelled angrily. “And why is he even so important to us? Yes, he is useful, but is he more important than our elves? You are the guardian. How don't you feel sad about this? There is no other way to save them except this.” Jorah breathed heavily after speaking. He hated Luca, and this was also the best way to get rid of him and save their elves.
• Sheila placed her right hand on Jorah’s arm, her voice gentle but persistent. “I know you're worried, Jorah, but we cannot let this drive us to make reckless decisions. Luca's power is the only thing keeping the Faceless away from us for now. If something were to happen to him…” She shook her head, unwilling to entertain the thought. She knew they needed to get the other elves; she couldn't bear the thought of them suffering, but she also couldn't risk it. If Luca is gone, then they'd be attacked by the Faceless, and who knew what would happen then?
