- “…I’m not telling you this because I think it fixes anything,” I say, to the room. “It doesn’t fix anything. She’s out there right now rebuilding everything on her own and doing a better job of it than I deserve to witness.” I sit back down. “I just needed you to know the true version. Whatever you do with it is your business.”
- The silence that follows is the specific silence of a room full of people recalibrating something. I can feel it — the slight shift in posture, the recrossed arms, the way a couple of guys stopped looking at me and started looking at some middle distance only they could see. Thirty-two people processing the same information at different speeds, arriving at different conclusions, and none of it mine to manage.
