- Saturday evening, I became nervous. Cliff preferred to see me as Gayle, while Lara assumed the invitation was intended to confirm my promotion to a supervisor. I sneaked to the garage and called Cliff. He responded immediately. I explained to him my dilemma and he calmed me, "Gayle, take it easy. You two will show up as Lara and Jerry. At a certain point, if the atmosphere is right, I'll ask you to go to your new room, and dress up as Gayle."
- I breathed a sigh of relief and went back to the house to prepare. I shaved, showered, and dressed in clean khakis, a long-sleeved shirt, and sneakers. I looked at my watch. We had 10 minutes before leaving the house.
- Lara was getting ready behind the closed door. I raised my voice, reminding her we needed to leave soon. She replied that she'd be out in a minute.
