Chapter 9 The Whereabouts of the Ginseng

  • Gabriel nodded and said, "Tomorrow, a triennial medical conference will be held in Elliswall. The conference's first prize will be a thousand-year-old ginseng!" Since he was one of the conference's judges, he naturally knew the first-place award, although the prizes had yet to be announced to the public.
  • "Medical conference! First place!" Cole decided to participate after hearing that. As long as he could acquire the thousand-year-old ginseng, he was confident he could awaken Anna by refining the Heart-Nourishing Pill.
  • Then, Gabriel uttered, "Unfortunately, the registration deadline for the conference has already ended, and you don't have a medical qualification certificate, so you can't participate!"
  • "Who said he can't participate?"
  • At that moment, Madison Young strode over, dressed in a black, off-shoulder, lace dress. The woman walked with a folder in one hand and her jet-black hair falling in waves over her shoulders. She possessed a charming demeanor while exuding an air of refined elegance. "Thank you for saving my grandpa, Mr. Stuart. This is the gift he wants to offer you. It is 100% of Benevolent Hospital's shares."
  • Then, Gabriel gasped and said, "100% share? Old Mr. Young is indeed generous!"
  • "I can't accept it. It's too expensive." Cole refused by waving his hands.
  • "You must accept it, Mr. Stuart. If you refuse, I will be punished by grandpa! Do you want me to get punished?" After that, Madison looked at him with a pitiful expression.
  • Suddenly, his thoughts turned to Anna upon seeing Madison in that state. "Alright, then. I'll accept it. Dr. Young, I'd like to participate in the upcoming medical conference. Is there any way for me to get in?"
  • "Of course. I'll have someone procure a medical qualification certificate for you so you can attend tomorrow's conference with me."
  • The following day, Cole and Madison, representing Benevolence Hospital, arrived at the venue for the medical conference. When they entered the hall, most of the seats were taken. Then, he looked around the room and estimated that about two hundred people were present. Soon, he noticed some familiar faces, including Gabriel and several well-known medical professionals who frequently appeared on television. While looking around the stage, he frowned upon reading the banner 'Modern Medicine Exchange Conference.'
  • "I think we came to the wrong place, Dr. Young!"
  • Madison sighed and said, "The sad truth is that traditional medicine won't be around much longer. These days, the majority of patients choose modern medicine."
  • "I disagree with your statement. Traditional medicine is a national treasure in Broynia. In terms of curing illness, it is one hundred times more effective than modern medicine!" When Cole made his remark, his voice was quite loud and sounded like a bomb in the quiet conference room. Undoubtedly, his statement drew everyone's attention.
  • When he heard that, a medical expert over the age of seventy seated on stage immediately pulled a long face. Then, he stood up, pointed his finger at Cole, and asked, "Which hospital are you from? The whole world now looks up to modern medicine. How dare you speak so boldly at such a young age?"
  • "Calm down, Dr. Calhoun. He is a representative of Benevolent Hospital, a traditional medicine practitioner with exceptional skills. I've witnessed it myself!" Suddenly, Gabriel stood up and tried to calm him.
  • "So, you're a traditional medicine practitioner? Are you exceptionally skilled in traditional medicine?" Aiden Calhoun sneered.
  • "No, but I can cure some diseases without injection or medication!" Cole declared confidently.
  • As soon as he said that, another modern doctor stood up and voiced his disdain. "Then, how can an illness be cured without injections or medication?"
  • However, Cole locked his gaze on the man, sneered, and said, "Have you had a cold for a few days?"
  • "That's right. Since I've been working overnight recently, I've come down with a cold!" The doctor's voice sounded strange as he spoke through a stuffy nose, and his unusual tone was picked up by everyone in the room.
  • "To cure your cold, I need to apply a few pressure points. Will you take my word for it?" Cole suddenly spoke.
  • "Are you kidding me? It's not as if my cold is incurable, and I've already taken my medication." The doctor laughed in response to Cole's remark.
  • "If you've been taking medication as you said, then why haven't you recovered?"
  • "I thought you were a doctor and you knew how medicine worked. Unfortunately, no medicine can show instant results."
  • "Even if modern medicine cannot produce instant results, this does not mean that traditional medicine cannot!" Cole thundered. "If I'm not mistaken, you frequently catch a cold, don't you? If you always take medication whenever you have a cold, your body will eventually resist that medication. So, no matter what medication you take, its effectiveness is minimal."
  • "That is common knowledge among doctors. Didn't you say you could cure me by applying pressure points? Come on, then! Today, I will expose your tricks!"
  • Cole smirked at the man's remark and approached him, saying, "The treatment of a cold is simple. All I have to do is gently massage the acupoint, LI 20."
  • Next, he used his fingers to massage the doctor's LI 20 acupoints by pinching the sides of his nose. The LI 20 acupoint on the nose was essential for treating a stuffy nose. Soon, the doctor felt mild discomfort and an immediate sense of refreshment when the appropriate stimuli were applied. Then, Cole withdrew his hand after less than two minutes. Afterward, the doctor sniffed and felt his nasal passages clear, and he could breathe normally again immediately.
  • "I'm cured? I can't believe I'm cured!" exclaimed the doctor.
  • Following that, all those in attendance noticed that his voice sounded more normal and that he was no longer speaking through a stuffy nose.
  • Goodness, gracious! Then, the doctor rubbed his nose in mild disbelief after learning that Cole had cured his cold. Is traditional medicine that incredible?
  • Soon, the attendees began having conversations about traditional medicine amongst themselves.
  • Meanwhile, Aiden's expression became gloomy, and he felt as if he were being slapped in the face as he stood on stage after witnessing what had transpired.
  • On the contrary, Cole smirked. "That's all I have to say. I hope that from today onward, 'traditional medicine' can also be written on the banner!" He pointed at the banner, which read 'Modern Medicine Exchange Conference,' and announced confidently.
