Chapter 89

• “What is happening?” I asked Vadirr impatiently, resisting the urge to push him out of the way and just run after my mate. It was useless because there were at least ten other guards that would prevent me from running even if I did somehow try to get away from Vadirr. I knew we were under attack, but I needed to know by whom and why. The women around me murmured amongst themselves, and I could feel their fear and agitation. I didn’t feel any better than they did, and whilst I’d been thought not to show fear in the presence of others, I couldn’t help the feeling of doom that surrounded me.
• I waited for a response from Vadirr who seemed more interested in making sure everyone is safe than responding to me. Scarlett was beside him, clinging to his arms as if she’d die if she let it go. I have never seen her look as terrified as she did now. Some other men were going around, trying to calm the frightened women. All of the women here were of the royal lycan tribe, and I recognised four out of the seven oracles as well. Someone was taking a head count as I could see, and reporting the results to another.
• “I can’t stay in here much longer,” Vadirr finally made eye contact with me, and then his mate. “The both of you must remain in here and make sure the other women are safe and no one leaves here. I shall be back in an hour…”
