Chapter 5 Howard Burton

  • “Huh?” Skylar had never witnessed such a situation. Since when did people get engaged upon first meeting?
  • While feeling somewhat awkward, his gaze unconsciously drifted toward Bianca. But... She does have a good figure and is beautiful. Plus, she comes with a hefty dowry. Having such a wife seems pretty nice.
  • “Grandpa, what are you talking about?” Bianca said with playful annoyance.
  • She noticed Skylar's intense gaze, which made her even more bashful, causing her face to flush to the tips of her ears.
  • Just then, a cocky voice echoed from the courtyard of the Weiss residence. “I'm Howard Burton of the Burton family, and I've come to mourn the passing of Old Mr. Weiss!”
  • Finnegan was the first to exit the room, only to see an arrogant scion striding toward him.
  • His expression drastically changed, and he was the first to speak. “Howard, who let you in? This is the Weiss residence, not somewhere you can behave recklessly!”
  • Howard was unfazed, declaring proudly, “Mr. Finnegan, there's no need to be so harsh. Once Bianca and I are married, we'll be one family.”
  • “You recommended Mr. Yates to me. Were you intending me to cause Dad's demise?” Finnegan had by then realized that had it not been for Skylar's intervention, Wallace would surely have passed away, making him the greatest sinner of the Weiss family.
  • “Mr. Finnegan, how could you wrongfully accuse me? I had nothing but good intentions. Mr. Yates' incompetence led to Old Mr. Weiss' demise,” Howard defended himself hypocritically. His tone suddenly turned sinister as he continued, “If anyone's to blame, it's you, Mr. Finnegan, for not distinguishing the truth from lies, leading to your father's death!”
  • Finnegan sternly rebuked, “You're provoking our Weiss family! Someone, quickly throw him out!”
  • Howard stood his ground with an air of unshakeable confidence.
  • “Wake up! Without Old Mr. Weiss, does your family still think you're the top family in Jeahron? Here's some news for you. The Burton family has already acquired thirty percent of Weiss Group's shares. Aside from that fifty percent of shares left unattended, my Burton family is now the largest shareholder. Your Weiss Group is about to bear the Burton name.”
  • The members of the Weiss family, who came out after hearing the commotion, looked at Howard and suddenly felt somewhat amused.
  • If this had happened just a few minutes earlier, they might have been thrown into a state of panic. After all, Wallace's death would have been akin to their family collapsing halfway. Coupled with changes in the corporate shares, the decline of the Weiss family was foreseeable.
  • However, all of this hinged on the successful execution of Howard's scheme.
  • Bianca had long disliked Howard, and hearing him talk drivel in her house, she was utterly enraged, exclaiming, “Who told you my grandpa passed away? He's alive and well!”
  • A hint of lascivious desire flashed in Howard's eyes when he saw Bianca emerge.
  • “Bianca dear, I understand you're hurting right now, but we can't bring the dead back to life. I promise to be there for you in the days to come,” he declared.
  • Bianca could no longer bear it, instructing, “Mr. Armstrong, smash his mouth for me.”
  • Maxim approached Howard with a cruel smile playing on his face. “Apologies for the offense, Mr. Burton.”
  • With that, his large hand swiftly reached for Howard's shoulder like a sharp eagle's claw.
  • A hint of disdain flickered in Howard's eyes. “Maxim, I might have been somewhat intimidated by you previously.”
  • As he spoke, he charged to meet Maxim's attack.
  • “But now, I'm...”
  • Maxim's hand landed firmly on Howard's shoulder, yet it felt as if he had struck a piece of solid iron.
  • “No longer...”
  • His movement unhindered, Howard raised his hand and struck Maxim's chest.
  • The latter felt like a galloping stallion had struck him in the chest. He cried out in pain as he flew backward, spewing out a mouthful of blood.
  • Howard withdrew his hand, his words finally coming to a halt.
  • “The person I was before.”
  • The members of the Weiss family watched as Maxim fell to the ground, unable to rise, prompting a surprise gasp.
  • Maxim is the strongest guard of the Weiss family, yet he couldn't even withstand a single move from Howard. Moreover, Howard had taken Maxim's attack head-on and emerged unscathed. Could the younger generation of the Burton family already possess such strength?
  • Standing to one side, Skylar couldn't help but narrow his eyes upon witnessing the scene.
  • “Divine Strength Parasite. It seems Parasite King is now backing the Burton family,” he remarked.
  • With a lecherous grin, Howard sauntered toward Bianca, saying, “Bianca, come home with me. Once the Burton family is united in marriage with the Weiss family, all of your family's wealth will be yours.”
  • Bianca watched the person approaching with terror and disdain on her face. She shot a pleading look at Skylar for help.
  • Skylar took a step forward, positioning himself between Bianca and Howard.
  • Having his view obstructed by Skylar greatly displeased Howard. He snapped, “Who let this beggar in? Get out of the way if you don't want to die.”
  • The housekeeper had slashed Skylar's robe earlier, leaving him looking unkempt.
  • “Sorry, but Bianca just became my fiancée a moment ago, so... it's you who should leave!” he said casually.
  • After hearing that, Howard was first taken aback before exploding in rage. “D*mn you, Bianca! To think I've wasted all my affection on you. So, this is the kind of man you prefer. Even a beggar like him can catch your eye. I'll tear you both apart today.”
  • As he spoke, he swung his fist toward Skylar.
  • The latter acted like he hadn't noticed, casually digging at his ears. “It's too noisy,” he said lightly.
  • Then, he firmly gripped Howard's fist, causing the man who sent Maxim flying with a single punch to turn beet red. Despite Howard's efforts, he was unable to break free.
  • Crack!
  • With a crisp sound, the bones in Howard's hand were forcibly crushed.
  • Before Howard could react, Skylar twisted his arm behind his back, followed by a series of crisp sounds.
  • Then, taking advantage of the momentum, he brought Howard down to the ground and planted one foot firmly on the latter's chest, effectively muffling the scream that was about to erupt.
  • Skylar looked down at Howard, whose face was contorted in agony, asking calmly, “Who did you just say you were going to tear apart?”
  • Howard's eyes burned with rage. Enduring the excruciating pain, he gritted his teeth and snarled, “Brat, if you let me go now, the Burton family can spare your life. Otherwise... Argh!”
  • Skylar interrupted Howard mid-sentence, putting more force onto his foot and shaking his head. “It seems you didn't quite catch what I just said.”
  • Howard felt an increasing pressure on his chest, finally experiencing the fear of death. Struggling, he managed to exclaim, “If you dare kill me, my Burton family will never let you off the hook!”
  • Skylar withdrew his foot, gazing coldly at Howard. A dangerous curve formed at the corner of his mouth. “What a coincidence,” he said. “I never intended to spare your Burton family either.”
  • Then, without giving Howard any chance to speak, he suddenly exerted force on his foot.
  • Crack!
  • One arm was shattered by Skylar.
  • Howard's eyes bulged. Glaring intensely at Skylar, he let out an agonized cry. “Argh!”
  • Before Howard could react, Skylar gave him another kick, sending the former out of the door like a soccer ball.
  • The Burton family members waiting outside the door stared blankly at the object that had flown over. Just as their curiosity prompted them to inspect it, a bone-chilling voice came from the house. “Go back and tell your patriarch, this arm is just the beginning!”
