Chapter 47 A Threat In Sight

  • Jane’s familiar figure flung her arms around Leonard's waist, pulling him into a tight hug. The warmth of his body enveloped her, and the subtle aroma of his cologne, a scent she had grown to associate with comfort and safety, wafted up, filling her lungs. Her eyes sparkled as she tilted her head back, her face alight with a bright smile. “Surprise!” she exclaimed, her voice bubbling over with excitement.
  • Leonard, whose hand was still on the cold metal, holstered in his pants, froze abruptly, staring at Jane. His eyes widened, and his mouth hung open as he stood frozen, his gaze fixed on Jane. His face was a picture of stunned silence, his eyebrows arched in astonishment. Her familiar floral scent wafted into his nose, reminding him that the person in his embrace was real.
  • Jane’s smile faltered, her eyes clouded with uncertainty as she misinterpreted Leonard’s stunned expression. She thought he was unhappy with her surprising him at work and her face fell. She tried to pull back, to extricate herself from his arms, but Leonard’s hand held her in place.
