Chapter 56 Hypotheticals

• Earlier, my ride with Elian had been uncomfortable. Now, I had mixed feelings. His arms were hooked under mine while he steered the horse, yet a voice kept repeating in my head, 'kill him now!'
• In the palm of my hands rested the future of the Velkan name. As an orphan, only I could salvage the honor of my family. I'm caught at a crossroads: If I go through with this divorce, Elian gets everything. He pushes me aside and gets the beta throne too. When that happens, then he might as well piss on our victory at Blackwater Ridge, because he'd disrupt the peace all on his own.
• If I choose not to go through with it, and save the kingdom, I'd be sacrificing myself again into this marriage. There was a chance I'd be treated better, based on the wealth I held. But after a while, I'd have to take my husband's name, after which half of my wealth would be rightfully his. With that, while the throne was excluded, I couldn't stand the thought of letting my family's wealth and legacy fall into the hands of that man.
