Chapter 52 The Rogue Assasin
- "I can wait for you," Elian said as he dismounted our shared horse.
- I watched him, taking in the familiar way he moved. I remembered the first time I met him, how Emogen whispered insults about the others but not him. How he was different. Now, when I look at him, I think of Kaelan. I compare the two in ways I shouldn’t. I’d kissed Elian twice, once on the altar, and the second before the war bells rang.
- With Kaelan, I’d kissed him twice too. Back at the war tent, and the other moments before he broke my heart. Now, Elian looks at me with puppy eyes. Like a pet begging its owner not to kick it out. But my ship with Elian had sailed. In the Alpha King’s castle, I could easily buy a horse, get a new house, anything. But how could I without a lawyer. Goddess! I needed a new lawyer. Perhaps a royal one, to look over the law my father signed, so that I can use my money freely without the fear of Elian taking it all from me.
