Chapter 2

  • Mia's point of view.
  • After leaving the hospital, I was too angry to go back home. I just couldn't contain my rage, so I boarded a cab and decided to visit my parents' pack to explain what had transpired between Stone, Jessica, and me.
  • My parents' pack is a little far from Alpha King Derulo's. It's a six-hour drive, and therefore I arrived at night—around 07:17 p.m.
  • "Oh, sorry," a little girl apologized as she bumped into me while I was rushing to get to the pack house.
  • "It's fine," I replied with a soft smile and quickly helped her regain her balance. "Go on." I signaled her to go join her friends who were waiting for her.
  • Strengthening my posture, I held my bag tightly and took a deep breath before entering the pack house. My brows furrowed and my mouth dropped open immediately I stepped foot in the big living room... I couldn't believe the scene playing out right in front of me.
  • "How did you get here so quickly?" I asked as I stared at Jessica, who's crying while my parents and oldest brother are comforting her.
  • As if they'd heard the most irritating voice in the world, my parents and brother snapped their heads toward me, flashing me a death glare.
  • "There's something called flight," she replied sassily with a steady voice as though she wasn't just crying her eyes out. But when I was about to speak, she began crying again. "Dad, you must get justice for me. Stone and I weren't doing anything wrong," she cried.
  • My dad sprang up immediately she said that and stormed toward me, his eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched tightly, and deep frown lines formed on his forehead. So much anger was radiating off his face—it was obvious she had lied to them about what had happened between us.
  • "You worthless child!" He landed a resounding slap on my face. "Aren't you ashamed, showing up here after lusting over your sister's boyfriend?"
  • I held my hurting cheek as tears brimmed in my eyes. I stared at my parents and brother in disbelief because none of them bothered to ask for my side of the story before picking sides.
  • "My sister's boyfriend? Have you forgotten that Stone is my fiancé, Dad? How come he's her boyfriend? She's clearly the one lusting after my man," I defended myself.
  • "Shut up!" He landed another slap on my other cheek. "You're older than her; can't you take a step back and let her have him? Why do you want to destroy your sister's happiness?"
  • I was taken aback briefly by his choice of words. "Let her have him? Is he some kind of toy we're supposed to share? Or is he—"
  • "I didn't even want to have him," Jessica interrupted me. "We're just friends, and he was only helping me because I was injured and—"
  • Her words were left unfinished as I burst into an ironic laugh. The tears that I was trying to hold back flowed down at that moment.
  • "And what is amusing here?" my brother asked angrily and impatiently.
  • I ignored him and faced Jessica. "You're just friends, right?" She nodded. "Then explain to us why I saw both of you at the obstetric department. Explain to us why his arms were wrapped so passionately around your waist and why you were clinging to him as if someone was planning to snatch him from you."
  • Jessica was simply glaring at me. She seemed like she had no words to defend herself.
  • "What injured person goes to the obstetric department?" I asked further, hoping my parents would see reason with me and question Jessica, but...
  • "Mom," Jessica cried, facing my mom as she closed her eyes and forced out some tears. "You must believe me, Stone and I are just friends. You know it's Alpha King Derulo that I love. I was just being friendly with Stone so that I'd get access to King Derulo since he's the King's brother."
  • I was too stunned to speak as I watched Jessica manipulating my family. My mother was just nodding in agreement to her silly excuse, while my father was scowling at me with so much disdain, as if I were an obstacle to their beloved daughter's happiness. And my brother was glaring at me with so much hatred. I don't blame them, though—there's no familial bond between us because I ceased to be their family the day Jessica and I were switched by a careless omega.
  • "Whether you like it or not, you must marry Stone and open the way for your sister to get close to King Derulo!" my father said firmly.
  • Realizing that arguing with them was useless, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Casting my fears and worries aside, I decided to make a bold decision.
  • "I don't care what you do after this, but I'm never going to marry Stone. Our engagement is over!" I announced loud and clear.
  • Having made my decision known to them, I turned to leave, but my father's next words made me stop abruptly.
  • "You're not marrying Stone, you said? Then forget you were ever my daughter, and don't even think of spending my money anymore." His threat was as clear as day. "You're a big girl now—fend for yourself!"
  • I turned around to check his expression, to confirm if he was being serious or just threatening me, but of course, he was dead serious. My eyes subconsciously located Jessica. She was smirking victoriously, and her eyes were silently telling me to leave already.
  • "Goodbye," I said, then left.

  • It was already too late in the night. I couldn't return to The Black Wolves Pack tonight, so I decided to pass the night at a motel in my parents' pack.
  • "Welcome to DG Motel. Are you dining or staying the night?" the receptionist asked me immediately I arrived at her desk.
  • "I'm staying the night," I replied.
  • "Alright, that will be $72," she said.
  • I nodded, then reached for my bank card inside my bag and handed it to her. She collected the card and pressed a few buttons before inserting it in their POS system, but after some seconds, she handed it back to me with a small frown.
  • "I'm sorry, ma'am, but it seems like your account has been frozen."
  • "What?" It was my turn to frown, as I didn't believe her because I had up to $3,000 in my account. I was about to argue with her when I recalled my father's last words: "...don't even think of spending my money."
  • He froze my account. He actually left me penniless. They chose their adopted da
  • ughter over me, their biological daughter.
  • Where am I going to sleep tonight?
