• Mia's POV
• I couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I heard Jessica's voice from that phone call, and reread the text in my head. She had promised to take everything from me before my "miserable death." The words echoed in my mind like a curse, making my skin crawl and my heart race.
• I paced the room assigned to me by one of the maids for what felt like hours, trying to make sense of everything that had happened. The hospital confrontation, Stone's betrayal, Jessica's threats, and worst of all, Derulo's conflicted behavior. One moment he was calling me his mate, the next I was back to being just his pack member.
