Chapter 24 Responsible

  • I let out a scream before jumping into action. I knew what had made this wolf attack. My heat. Despite profusely sweating, I had to keep my head clear. I crawled back while the wolf practically began pawing and scratching the car, trying to rip it open. My hands shook as I unlocked the backseat door and jumped out even though I knew it was a rookie and a stupid mistake. But I didn’t care. Being trapped and being raped sounded far more horrible than being chased. I didn’t let myself ponder much on the horror as I began running. Instead of taking the road, I chose the forest because of the number of camouflages it provided. My legs hurt from the amount of energy I was using to run. I could feel myself run out of breath, my heart aching with every inhale, but I was far from safe. The wolf, I don’t know why, didn't stop chasing me. He was not even transforming, which was maybe because he didn't want me to recognise him but he should have known I was new in town.
  • I was breathing through my mouth as I weaved from one tree to another. Trying my best to not keep a similar pattern but so far it wasn’t working. I looked back and screamed when I saw him not even two feet away from me and my heart pounded at the thought of the consequence. Astrid was growling and begging me. I didn’t want her to take over. And then I crashed into someone….or something and almost fell back. A yelp escaped my lips but the hard impact of the ground never came. I felt a tug on my top and opened my eyes which I hadn’t even realized when I had closed them. And promptly my eyes widened because a wolf was grabbing me and preventing me from falling by holding onto my top with its muzzle. Its grey eyes bore into mine. And the strangest thing was, it felt familiar. Unlike the other wolf, this one had chestnut fur. It gently made me sit on the forest grounds, on top of a huge pile of leaves before stepping in front of me, almost guarding me with its body.
  • I panted as I watched it prowl towards the other wolf who had stopped moving altogether. Both wolves stared at each other. The one in front of me then let out a roar. The sound pierced through the silence of the forest and scared many timid creatures in the process. I gulped as he watched the chestnut wolf prowl towards the black one. And then the two engaged in a fight while I sat there, numb and unmoving. Just watched them growl and snarl as they each tried to best and subdue the other. Both of them were alphas, from the look of it. All of a sudden, I heard a twig snap. My heartbeat kicked up as I let my gaze wander. This was supposed to be under Renaud pack and I was wondering where any of the guards might be. But no one arrived.
