Chapter 8 I Fear You Will Find Me Too Prominent

  • "I went for a walk at Vermilion Avenue," Aiden said with a smile.
  • Angelina's frown deepened as she looked at Aiden and asked, "Aiden, have you thought about getting a job?"
  • Several things went through my mind last night. Whether what happened yesterday was real or just a hallucination. Regardless, deep down, I still hope Aiden can be a better man. After all, he is my husband. Even though I have no feelings for him, we are still legally bound together. Although it's a rather simplistic reason, it's still a bond that can't be easily disregarded or broken by mere words.
  • Of course, I am dissatisfied with this marriage. However, there's little I can do about this matter, especially since Grandpa personally arranged for this marriage to happen. Therefore, although there is no doubt that I resent Aiden more than I care for him, I still don't want us to end up as enemies.
  • As for Aiden, he remembered that this was the first time Angelina had asked him questions such as this. Angelina had always been indifferent toward me before. Could this mean she's giving me a chance?
  • "If possible, you can aid me in starting a medical center," Aiden said flatly while he discretely scrutinized her expression.
  • "A medical center for traditional medicine," Aiden added, still carefully observing her.
  • "Traditional medicine? You are still so impractical. Do you know that?" Angelina immediately dismissed him when she heard his words. "You just lucked out yesterday. Don't deem yourself to be truly knowledgeable in medical skills because you just happened to save Mr. William!"
  • Aiden couldn't help but smile in resignation when he didn't receive her support. Sure enough, Angelina's prejudice against me isn't built up overnight. Who else in this world would dare to deem themselves to be knowledgeable in medical skills if I couldn't?
  • "I am a little knowledgeable in medical skills. The Grays operate a beauty salon, and beauty treatment is considered a subdivision of medical skills. I want to help you, so I have spent some effort on this aspect. Who knows? Maybe one day I'll be able to formulate a great beauty product for you in the future," Aiden elaborated lightly.
  • "Fine, fine. Let's eat." Angelina lowered her head and started eating without bothering to continue the conversation. She had lost her interest in this useless lout as she immediately focused on her dinner after answering him perfunctorily.
  • She believed that Aiden might have the determination to work hard. Nevertheless, she had no faith in his ability.
  • As for Aiden, he merely shrugged after he saw her reaction. As expected, she still doesn't believe me.
  • Linda's voice suddenly cut in when both of them decided to let the conversation lie. "Actually, it would be nice if Aiden could run a medical center."
  • Aiden cast a suspicious glance at her. I will never naively believe that Linda is saying that for the sake of supporting me. She's definitely looking at me like I'm her personal cash cow after that 20 thousand check!
  • "Nice? What's so nice about it? He's not truly knowledgeable in medicine," Angelina snapped.
  • However, she remained unconvinced. "How could he save Mr. William yesterday if he didn't know any medical skills? Not only that, the Webbs even personally paid him a visit and thanked him. If you ask me, I'd say there's some merit to his words. Perhaps he has a talent in medicine!"
  • "Mom, can you not listen to his nonsense?" Angelina was feeling rather frustrated at Linda at this point as she responded huffily, "He was simply lucky that day. The ambulance arrived in time, and Aiden only helped the paramedics carry Mr. William into the ambulance."
  • "What?! It wasn't Aiden who cured him?!" Linda gasped upon hearing that. Even so, she still looked at Angelina and Aiden, not believing the words that escaped Angelina's lips to be true.
  • "What are you looking at me for? That's the truth," Angelina said flatly.
  • Linda eventually believed Angelina when she noticed that Aiden wasn't defending himself. So, she immediately became worried as she asked, "So, will the Webbs ask for the money back once they find out?"
  • Linda became even more concerned about that possibility as she threatened Aiden menacingly, "Aiden, I'm telling you—you are going to pay the Webbs their money back yourself if they come asking for it!"
  • "I'm not the one who spent it, so why should I be the one paying? Moreover, I wasn't the one who asked for that money at that time," he rebutted dispassionately.
  • She immediately growled out, "Do you honestly think you are a miracle doctor? How dare you talk back to me! I wouldn't have let Ryan leave that day if I had known about this. Look at what you've done! So, what if I spent that money? The Webbs will only look for you when they want the money back!"
  • Aiden couldn't be bothered to waste his time with the unreasonable woman as he continued eating in silence.
  • "You truly are a good-for-nothing indeed! You only know how to rely on scamming people for money!" Linda snorted in disdain.
  • Meanwhile, Angelina, who was on the side, could no longer put up with Linda's scornful demeanor. Therefore, she criticized, "Mom, you were the one who spent all that money. So, how can you put Aiden in such a position? Besides, where can he find 20 thousand with his ability? When the Webbs demand that money, I will pay them if you don't want to!"
  • "Don't you dare! How dare you revolt against me?! Your mother! Are you taking advantage of the situation that your dad isn't home by treating me this way?! Oh, why do I have to suffer from such a miserable fate? First, I got married to your loser of a dad. Then, you find yourself a good-for-nothing husband. You unfilial daughter! What have I done to deserve this?!" When Linda heard Angelina say that she would pay on Aiden's behalf, she immediately stopped persecuting Aiden and started making a scene.
  • Angelina furrowed her brows in displeasure when Linda started making a scene. She immediately placed down her cutlery and coldly informed them that she was full before she headed upstairs. Then, she even slammed her door shut, refusing to give Linda any attention.
  • Aiden frowned as he took a look at the amount of risotto left on Angelina's plate. The amount of risotto served on the plate was already meager, to begin with. How can her body endure hunger when she only ate such a tiny portion?
  • When he thought of that, he also placed his tableware aside after casting Linda a displeased look.
  • "What's that look you're giving me? You are just a good-for-nothing who is leeching off the Grays! What right do you have to look at me like that?!" Linda instantly switched targets after she saw Aiden showing her attitude. The verbal abuse that fell from her pursed lips only worsened with each passing minute.
  • Although he knew that Linda was going to hurl another round of abuse at him and he should just weather it as he did in the past, he couldn't control his temper any longer. So, this time, he let out a cold snort and responded with an icy stare.
  • Linda was taken aback by the coolness in his gaze. What's with the look in his eyes? Why does it look so scary?
  • Even so, her mouth reacted faster than her brain as she snapped her mouth shut with a click. There was no doubt that she was inwardly cursing him based on the ugly glower she kept sending him. Nonetheless, his demeanor managed to stun her that she restrained herself and only muttered, "He thinks he's a tough guy now, huh? Fine! Go out and earn some money, then!"
  • Aiden didn't want to give her the satisfaction of responding to her, so he rose to his feet and began cleaning up.
  • Aiden, who had arrived at the kitchen with all the used tableware, tilted his head in thought before he decided to make a bowl of ramen. He even added an egg to the dish. Once he finished making it, he brought it up to the second floor, came to Angelina's room, and knocked on the door.
  • "What is it?" Angelina's voice came from inside.
  • "I noticed that you didn't have an appetite earlier, so I made you a bowl of ramen," he said softly.
  • Angelina, who was in her pajamas, opened the door with a creak. His thoughtful actions touched her, yet a sudden burst of anger sprang up in her heart as she stared at the bowl of ramen in Aiden's hands.
  • "Aiden, why can't you find something meaningful to do? It's fine, even if it's a job that pays a few hundred dollars! Do you think it's fine and dandy for you to spend your time in the kitchen all day?" she grumbled in frustration.
  • On the other hand, Aiden wasn't listening to her at this moment. Instead, his gaze was fixated on the pajamas Angelina wore. Since her pajamas were baggy, and she was in the comfort of her own room, she opened the door without any regard. She hadn't buttoned up her pajamas properly, perhaps for her own comfort or out of neglect, but it was a rather distracting sight.
  • As a result, a large section of her fair chest was revealed, which was like ice cream to Aiden's eyes.
  • Angelina noticed his gaze and followed it, which resulted in her swiftly clutching pajamas close to her body and scolding him angrily, "What are you looking at?! You're indeed a good-for-nothing man!!"
  • "Do you think I bring shame to you?" Aiden asked flatly, seemingly not bothered by Angelina's anger even the slightest. Or perhaps, he was already used to it.
  • "So, you do know!" Angelina continued with a dark look on her face, "I wouldn't despise you if you have a decent job, even if it's a low-paying job. But look at you! What do you have?!"
  • A hint of tenderness surfaced in Aiden's eyes as he stared at Angelina's gorgeous face. "I know I didn't live up to your expectations and always embarrassed you in the past. However, I fear you will find me too flashy from now on."
