Chapter 6 Are You Worried About Me?

  • Angelina lay on her bed as she recalled what had happened today. She didn't know what to feel about Aiden's sudden change in demeanor. Maybe I'm seeing things. He just got lucky today! She fell asleep as she thought to herself.
  • On the other hand, Aiden sat cross-legged on his single bed in a room that was supposed to be a storeroom next to Angelina's room. Wisps of white smoke were coming out from the top of his head, making him look ethereal.
  • He had to take hold of this opportunity now that God gave him another chance at life!
  • Aiden kept trying to feel and connect to that mystical point around his abdomen as he focused on the guidebook in his memories.
  • As he was once a martial arts master, it wasn't difficult to recover to that level with the help of one of the greatest guidebooks known to man. Suddenly, a muffled sound came from his body in the early hours of the morning.
  • Following that, an indescribable feeling enveloped his whole body as if he was laying on a bed of clouds.
  • During this period of meditation, he was healed and possessed the basic ability to gather inner energy and essential energy.
  • A glint flashed in his eyes when he opened them as he took a deep breath while his practice came to a stop. Then, when he wiped the sweat off his brow, he mumbled in relief, "I can finally practice martial arts again!"
  • The following day, Aiden woke up early to make breakfast as usual.
  • Even though he could store essential energy, he wasn't planning on giving up his position as a live-in son-in-law at the moment.
  • Last time, his enemies were lurking in the dark. But now, he was the one hiding in the shadows. This would make it convenient for him to investigate what had happened all those years ago.
  • Angelina got up, saw Aiden busy in the kitchen, and thought to herself. I was probably too tired and hallucinated yesterday. He's still a good-for-nothing.
  • "Food's ready! Let's eat." Aiden noticed her arrival and said with a smile.
  • After he served breakfast on the table, he turned around and went back into the kitchen.
  • "Why are you up so early?" she asked lightly.
  • He turned around and looked at her before commenting, "I'm always up this early. It feels different today because Mom's not home!"
  • She stared at him with mild incomprehension. She felt that he had changed overnight but couldn't put her finger on what it was.
  • He was still dressed in his usual clothes, and breakfast was as delicious as ever. Those facts repeatedly informed Angelina that this person was Aiden, who only knew how to bustle about in the kitchen.
  • But… Eyes! His eyes! There's something else in them. It's something he never had—confidence!
  • Aiden glanced at her and urged, "Eat quickly. The Grays will start troubling you again if you're late."
  • Then, he returned to the kitchen and sat on his dedicated seat before eating breakfast.
  • Although they had been married for three years, Aiden was still not allowed to eat at the dining table. This was a rule Linda had enforced, and Angelina didn't oppose it.
  • Angelina got what he was insinuating. It was about Linda being fussy and picky about Aiden's actions.
  • "Where did Mom go?" she asked.
  • "Don't know. She went out really early," he replied, and they both fell silent.
  • When Angelina was done with breakfast, she got ready to leave. But she suddenly turned around to face Aiden. "You can actually go look for a job. You know."
  • "Look for a job? Who's going to cook, then?" Aiden retorted. "It's been three years. Every time I go out to look for a job, your mom always calls me back. I know she wants me to rely on the Grays and live like a groveling dog. She's always saying that I don't make money and that I'm a good-for-nothing! But have you all given me a chance to prove myself?"
  • Angelina frowned deeply at his response. "If you really have what it takes, why would Mom keep calling you back?"
  • "Ha!" he sneered but didn't say anything else and turned around to clean the kitchen.
  • She was angered by his response and questioned lividly, "I'm trying to be nice! What's that attitude of yours? If that's the case, you can fend for yourself when we go our separate ways!"
  • "You don't need to worry about me since you have been planning on separating," Aiden answered with a shrug.
  • "You… Who said we're separating? You're being unreasonable!" She turned around and shoved the door open with a bang.
  • "Not separating? Are you perhaps worried about me?" he teased.
  • "You!"
  • Boom! Angelina slammed the door slammed and felt like she was going to explode.
  • Aiden is still the same! He's still a good-for-nothing. No. He's not just a good-for-nothing. He's also a shameless lout!
  • After she departed in a huff, Aiden also left the house, but he wasn't going after her. Instead, he was going to the medical center.
  • If he wanted to quickly recover his powers, he needed the Marrow Cleansing Pill.
  • To get that, he needed to refine the pill himself!
  • So, he came to Vermilion Avenue, the place with the most medical centers in Keyland.
  • He picked a random medical center with the least people and entered before handing a recipe over to the medical student.
  • The white-haired old doctor sitting inside glanced at Aiden swiftly before closing his eyes and ignoring him.
  • When Aiden received all the medicinal herbs he was looking for, he went up to the old doctor.
  • "Doctor, do you sell furnaces and golden needles here?" he asked.
  • The old doctor pried his eyes open and took a look at him before asking rudely, "Why do you need a furnace and golden needles, Young Man? Are you a doctor?"
  • "I only need these two things. If you don't have them, I'll just look elsewhere." Aiden replied and paid for the medicinal herbs as he got ready to leave.
  • When he got to the entrance, he bumped into someone. It was a lady carrying a child in her arms.
  • Just as they were about to fall to the ground, Aiden reacted swiftly and grabbed them to prevent that from happening.
  • The lady didn't even scold Aiden as she rushed toward the old doctor.
  • "Dr. Zenith, my child fainted again!" the lady cried worriedly.
  • On the other hand, the old doctor sighed, "Ms. Griffin, This is only a small medical center. I've told you that you need to go to a better-equipped hospital for the child's sickness."
  • "But, Dr. Zenith, I don't have the money! This child is all I have. I can't just give up on my child…" Tears rolled down the lady's face as she sobbed in despair.
  • "Let me wake the child."
  • Then, Dr. Zenith took out silver needles, planning to perform acupuncture. At the same time, Aiden took a look at the child in the lady's arms and said, "You're overtaxing the child's body!"
  • Instantly, the three people in the medical center all looked at him with widened eyes.
  • "Shut up! My teacher is treating him. Who are you to interrupt?" the medical student reprimanded sternly as he stood behind the counter.
  • Dr. Zenith also furrowed his brow and looked at Aiden. "Are you a doctor, young man?"
  • “I know a little," he admitted while nodding.
  • "A little? Then, what proof do you have that I'm overtaxing the child?" Dr. Zenith said grumpily.
  • Aiden didn't take his bad attitude to heart as he sighed, "Look at the child's back. You should see a black line that's nearing his heart."
  • Dr. Zenith didn't believe him but still lifted the child's shirt to check his back. Out of his expectation, he saw that same line.
  • "How could this be?!"
