Chapter 18 Fake Ginseng

  • He's still very handsome, but he's married, though, Gina thought. She initially wanted to clean up the mess, but the moment she got up, Aiden was awakened by the noise.
  • "You're finally awake," Gina said with a smile.
  • Aiden shook his head and looked helplessly at the woman. "You'd better not drink again."
  • "I only drink once in a while!" Gina refuted.
  • Aiden shook his head again. "It's not safe that way. If you were drinking alone last night, some strangers might have taken advantage of you."
  • "I got it. Stop nagging. I'll call you if I want to drink again." Gina blinked.
  • "Why would you want to call me?" Aiden asked doubtfully.
  • "It'll be safer that way. At the very least, you didn't take advantage of me last night. You're quite a gentleman." Gina laughed dryly to prove her point.
  • When they left the place, Gina learned that she had puked all over Aiden last night. With a flushing face, she said, "I'm sorry for staining your clothes. I'll buy you new ones."
  • "There's no need for that. I've cleaned them up," Aiden replied with a smile.
  • After Gina sent Aiden to the area where the Gray Residence was located, she left the place. When the security guard saw Aiden getting out of the car, he thought, Why would someone send such a good-for-nothing home in a nice car? Moreover, the driver is a woman. The world is unfair. He's married into the Gray Family, but he still went out to have fun with another woman!
  • Not knowing what was on the security guard's mind, Aiden headed straight home.
  • The moment he passed through the door, he saw Angelina and Linda having breakfast. When Linda saw him, she said in a weird tone, "Look at who's here. Didn't you run away from home last night?"
  • Ignoring the older woman, Aiden went upstairs. Angelina frowned at that. The night before, she had been waiting for Aiden until 12.00AM because she wanted to apologize to him. Much to her chagrin, the man didn't come home the entire night.
  • "You didn't come home last night. Aren't you supposed to explain?" Angelina questioned.
  • Aiden turned to face her. "What's there to explain? Would you care?"
  • "I—" Before Angelina could finish her words, the man continued going upstairs.
  • "My dad is coming back today. Go and pick him up at the airport later!" Angelina snorted.
  • Hearing that, Aiden stopped in his tracks and replied, "I got it."
  • Aiden had a good impression of his father-in-law. At the very least, Harvey wouldn't mock him as Linda had done. He hadn't been around for half a year, so Aiden was surprised to learn that the older man was coming back.
  • After Angelina was done with breakfast, she headed straight to the company. Before Aiden drove to the airport, he bought a bracelet from an antiquity store. Bracelets and tea leaves were Harvey's favorites.
  • As Aiden looked at the bracelet in his hand, he nodded and muttered, "This thing is totally worth ten grand. It's so unique."
  • On their way home, Harvey asked Aiden with a smile, "How have you been for the past six months?"
  • "Same old, same old," Aiden replied smilingly.
  • "Angelina can be domineering, egoistic, and proud sometimes. Take it slow. I know you're not what you appear to be," Harvey patted the young man's shoulder and mentioned.
  • After a moment of hesitation, Aiden uttered, "Angelina and I might not—"
  • Before he could finish his words, Harvey's phone started ringing suddenly. When Harvey was done with the call and asked what Aiden was saying earlier, the young man only shook his head.
  • Aiden wanted to say he intended to leave the Gray Family. However, since his father-in-law had just returned, he decided to wait for a better moment to break the news.
  • Upon their return, they saw Corina, Janice, their daughters as well as their husbands. When Angelina learned about it, she got a day off and said apologetically to Ray that she had to take a rain check on the meal, for her father had returned. Then, she went home in a hurry.
  • Since the relatives were there, some small talk was inevitable. After that, the juniors presented Harvey with welcome-home gifts.
  • Corina's son-in-law, Titan Larsen, gave Harvey ginseng. "Mr. Gray, I know you're not in the pink of health. As such, I've bought ginseng for you to boost your health."
  • Corina promptly said, "Titan has spent several grand to buy this from the far East, Harvey. It shows how much he respects you!"
  • "That's expensive! You shouldn't have, Titan. Thank you so much!" Harvey expressed his gratitude and took the ginseng.
  • "Titan has a successful career, so he can afford to buy exotic items!" Janice complimented Titan, then took a look at her son-in-law, Marsh Fuller.
  • Knowing what Janice meant, Marsh quickly fished out his gift, which was a tea set. Although it wasn't as expensive as the ginseng, it cost him several hundred.
  • Harvey took it with a smile and thanked him.
  • Then, Corina's other son-in-law, Gary Neel, gave Harvey tea leaves that were over a grand.
  • Corina appeared smug, for her sons-in-law's gifts were each worth over a grand. There was no denying she was proud.
  • Meanwhile, Titan looked at Aiden and asked, "Haven't you prepared any gift for your father-in-law, Aiden?"
  • Aiden wasn't fond of Linda's relatives. As such, he decided to remain silent.
  • Nonetheless, a relentless Titan continued to say, "Angelina, I still don't understand why Old Mr. Gray asked you to marry this useless man. His father-in-law has returned, but he didn't even prepare any gift!"
  • "How is he supposed to compare to you, Titan? You're a manager at a multinational corporation, so thousands are nothing to you. As for him, he probably only has enough money to buy some groceries! Haha!" Marsh commented scornfully.
  • There was a tinge of lust behind Titan's gaze as he looked at Angelina. How lucky he is to marry a woman like Angelina! Look at how smooth and delicate her skin is!
  • Aiden could identify that the ginseng presented by Titan was fake at first sight, but he just didn't want to talk to them. It never crossed his mind that Titan would be relentless.
  • "Even though I'm poor, I wouldn't give a fake ginseng as a gift," Aiden said with a sneer.
  • "Are you saying that Titan's ginseng is fake?" Corina questioned agitatedly. "What do you know about ginseng?"
  • "That's right. You're just a good-for-nothing. How dare you say the ginseng is fake? Have you ever seen one before?" Marsh snapped.
  • "Aiden, what right do you have to say Titan's ginseng is fake? If you can't give us a proper explanation, I won't let you off!" Corina's eldest daughter and Titan's wife, Larissa Lane, demanded.
  • "Will you please look at yourself in the mirror? What do you know about exotic medication from abroad? Go out more and see the world!" Larissa's sister, Carmen Lane, snapped.
  • "If you have nothing better to say, just go back to your room. Stop embarrassing me here!" Linda growled with a dark expression.
  • Then, she turned to her sister. "Corina, please don't be mad. This good-for-nothing hasn't prepared any gift, which is why he accuses Titan of presenting fake ginseng!"
  • Then, she glared at Aiden and roared, "Stop pretending that you know anything about supplements! Everyone here knows you're just a useless man. You son of a b*tch!"
