Chapter 4 Here Is the Evidence

  • “Imbeciles! Every single one of them is a useless imbecile!” Patrick vented his anger by hurling anything he could get his hands on across his VIP ward in Vanstead City Hospital. At the same time, he was accompanied by a man who seemed to be in his thirties; it was none other than his secretary, Norman Miller.
  • After Harvey let Eddie go, the latter immediately informed Norman about his confrontation with the madman. Eddie didn’t entirely reveal everything to Harvey, including the fact that he was actually Norman's cousin; afraid of Patrick’s wrath for failing his job, Eddie quickly turned to Norman for help.
  • “Why hasn’t Akela done anything?! Don’t tell me he needs to get prepared before taking on that useless piece of crap!”
  • “Young Master Patrick, I’m sure Akela wouldn’t dare to do that.” Norman politely bent over and said, trying to calm his boss down since he was deemed to be Patrick’s confidant. Nevertheless, he was also among those who had been deceived by Harvey’s reputation of being timid as no one thought he would ever resist until the recent matter. Soon, he added with a deep voice, “Harvey is just a useless piece of junk, Young Master Patrick! Let Akela worry about him while you sit back and relax! However, we should be concerned that he might tell Alice about our plot. By then, it’ll be hard for you to marry her once she finds out you’re behind everything.”
  • “Hmph!” Patrick grunted indifferently. “So what? He doesn’t have any proof to show that I’m the mastermind anyway. Tell your cousin to leave Vanstead City. I’d love to see how the imbecile, Harvey, would pin the blame on me.”
  • “No worries, Young Master Patrick. I’ve already spread the word around. Without your permission, Eddie will not appear anywhere near Vanstead City.”
  • “Good!” Patrick nodded satisfactorily, having absolute faith in his reliable right-hand man to take care of almost everything. He then urged his secretary and said, “Tell Akela to act as soon as possible. I don’t want to see that idiot alive any longer! Let him know that I’ll pay him another 1 million if he is willing to act right away.”
  • As soon as the man finished his sentence, someone suddenly opened the door from the outside and entered the ward. At that moment, an exasperated look flashed across Patrick and Norman’s faces as no one, including the doctor, could enter the ward without Patrick’s permission. Thus, they angrily wondered who had the guts to disobey his order.
  • While Norman growled at the entrance, the unwanted visitor stepped into their view with Patrick glaring glacially at him. “Harvey! Some nerve you have to come here all by yourself!”
  • Upon hearing the name, Norman naturally stood in front of Patrick to protect the latter while warning Harvey with a stern look. “This is a private ward, so please leave at once! If you don’t, I will sue you for trespassing with the intention to assault an innocent patient!”
  • Nevertheless, Harvey only shot a cold gaze at Norman shortly before he shifted it away from him. Deep down, he didn’t think Norman would be a threat to him at all, so he appeared unconcerned and took the man lightly. Soon, he was seen putting a basket of fruits on the table, whereupon he fixed his apathetic gaze on Patrick with a laugh. “Mr. O’Niell, you seem to be scared of me.”
  • “You’ve gotta be kidding me!” Patrick grunted indifferently despite his fear on the inside. At the same time, he couldn’t stop thinking about the moment that he got hurled out of Alice’s car by Harvey. That guy looks innocent, yet he is strong and gutsy. If he ever decides to do anything to us, Norman and I will definitely not stand a chance against him!
  • “You’d better not get cocky, Harvey! You’re strong—I’ll give you that—but what else can you do? Maybe working as a security guard is where you could actually put your talent to good use. By the way, what’s with the fruits? Are you here to apologize?”
  • “Apologize? Well, that’s a funny misunderstanding!” Harvey smiled and spoke with a glacial voice. “You’d been playing dirty tricks behind my back to set me up before you pretended to save me after that. That’s a good plan, I have to say. But despite all the hassle to drive me away from the Brown Family, unfortunately, your plan has failed.”
  • As soon as he heard that, the look on Patrick’s face instantly darkened. He then glared at Harvey and harrumphed indifferently. “I don’t know what you’re talking about! If you don’t have any proof, you’d better not run your mouth because I can sue you for disparagement!”
  • “Oh, really? It appears that you’re quite confident, Mr. O’Niell. If I’m not mistaken, the guy, Eddie, has probably been sent away, and the lady who should be in the police station is likely missing now.”
  • Patrick complacently glimpsed at Harvey, thinking he wasn’t as dumb as he was thought to be for figuring out his plan. Nevertheless, he wasn’t concerned by that at all because all the key witnesses were long gone. “I’m glad you know that, Harvey! You’re a nobody, and if it weren’t for the Brown Family, you wouldn’t even stand a chance against me! Alice will be my woman—mine and only mine! So your only sensible choice would be to leave the Brown Family; otherwise, I can’t guarantee your safety if the worst comes to the worst.”
  • While Patrick threatened Harvey to leave Alice for his own safety, Harvey remained calm and unfazed as he continued to fix his gaze on Patrick. Feeling slightly intimidated by the man’s piercing eyes, Patrick subconsciously warned Harvey not to do anything silly. “Hey, Harvey, what do you think you’re doing?! This is a hospital! If you dare to do anything stupid, I’ll make sure you won’t leave this place in one piece, or you can think about spending the rest of your life behind bars!”
  • “Relax, Mr. O’Niell!” Harvey smiled at Patrick and patted his bed with a chuckle. “But you might want to be wary about me! I may not kill you right here, but you never know when you’ll end up dead with blood coming out of all the holes in your body!”
  • “Get out of my face! Now!” Patrick was furious as no one had ever cursed him like that. Harvey must die! I want him dead now! Despite the man’s exasperation, Harvey seemed entirely unconcerned about it. After that, he grabbed the basket of fruits and left the ward with a mischievous smirk.
  • In the meantime, Alice and her parents were waiting in the Brown Residence along with their relatives, who were speculating about Harvey’s progress.
  • “What were you thinking back then, Alice? You shouldn’t have agreed to your grandfather’s wishes when he arranged the marriage between you and him! Harvey is a lost cause, and we’re all sorry for you.”
  • “That’s right! If Polly hadn’t called us back, we wouldn’t have known about the mess that imbecile created! He is an absolute disgrace to the family!”
  • “He’s always been a useless bozo! I don’t know what Pop really saw in him. Now that he’s shown his true colors, I say it’s time we drive him away from the Brown Family!”
  • “That’s right! Alice must divorce that useless crap!”
  • In the face of the family’s raging sentiment, Alice helplessly rubbed her forehead because she knew her mother had deliberately summoned their relatives to their house in an attempt to force her to divorce Harvey.
  • At that moment, Harvey happened to return home, whereupon he was greeted by the unfriendly gazes from everyone around him. Soon, Polly approached him haughtily and said, “Harvey, your time is up! Have you found the evidence to prove your innocence? If you haven’t, there’s the door.”
  • “Hmph! Look at him! Does he look like he was out searching for evidence? He could’ve been fooling around again!”
  • “Hurry up and beat it! No one wants to see you here any longer.”
  • Aw! Should I be flattered? It looks like everyone has been waiting for my return. But this matter is between me and Alice; how does it concern the rest of you?! Harvey curled his lips upward and chided everyone else deep down. He then walked up to Alice, but before he could say anything, he was interrupted by her. “Harvey, I know this isn’t fair to you, but after we divorce, I’ll give you 1 million as compensation. After that, you will be on your own!”
  • Harvey gazed at Alice and laughed before he showed her his phone and said, “Here is the evidence.”
