Chapter 3 A Clue

  • “Heaven and earth shall witness my might, for I’ll be the world’s beacon of light…” Harvey appeared to be shirtless, sitting on the bed with his legs folded. At the same time, he seemed to be chanting some mantra, holding his breath as the Chi built up in his body.
  • In the past four years, Harvey’s failure to attain enlightenment had taken a toll on his health, but thanks to his consistent breathing practice, he was slowly regaining his strength. Although he might still be far from returning to his peak form, his powers still surpassed the abilities that normal humans had.
  • Upon countless attempts, Harvey deduced that the inhibitory spell cast upon him served to restrain his potential in building a foundation for his enlightenment. If he tried to push his limits, he would risk triggering the inhibitory spell within him. Once that happened, he would be rendered unconscious with all of his efforts going to waste as he would be forced to start from scratch. Nevertheless, he had only taken four years to restore his powers this time, and the attack last night probably sped up his progress. After letting the Chi flow through his body, Harvey opened his eyes and changed his clothes before setting out from the Brown Residence to the place where he passed out.
  • Fifteen minutes later, Harvey arrived at a restaurant, where he was greeted by the owner, who was a bald middle-aged man. “Hi, sir. Do you remember me? I dined here last night, but was there anyone with me?”
  • Josh Gyllenhaal shot a strange gaze at Harvey, finding the latter’s question funny because there was no way he could remember the face of every single customer who had ever visited his restaurant. Since it was lunchtime at that moment, he was busy serving his customers, so he waved his hand in frustration and said, “Nah, I can’t recall anything. Take a seat if you’re going to order something or get lost! I’m busy!”
  • Noticing Josh’s avoidant gaze, Harvey frowned and grew suspicious as he reckoned the restaurant’s owner was too afraid to reveal something he was hiding. “Do you always feel pain in your stomach as well as occasional dizziness? When you’re in bed, do you feel weak and exhausted?”
  • “What the hell are you talking about?” Josh lashed out at Harvey, unhappy with his words as he found them embarrassing. Does he need a megaphone to say that to the world?! I don’t want to be a laughingstock, idiot! At the thought of that, he glared at the man as a gesture to shush him.
  • Nevertheless, Harvey showed no signs of letting up and continued to say, “In the past six months, I bet you also experienced heart palpitation and night sweats that disrupted your sleep, while your sex life deteriorated. If you don’t treat it…”
  • While Harvey’s words struck fear in Josh’s heart, the man could no longer contain his curiosity. “What will happen if I don’t treat it?”
  • “Oh, nothing serious is going to happen other than… erectile dysfunction.” Harvey blurted out anything that came to his mind, but Josh was panicky after hearing him because his symptoms fitted the description.
  • Ugh! My wife has been displeased about that. Despite his concern, he was reluctant to seek help at the cost of his pride, but now that Harvey had seen through him, he still couldn’t get away with his embarrassment. Nevertheless, he braced himself and glimpsed at Harvey, asking, “Do you know how to cure it?”
  • “Yup,” Harvey answered with a nod. “But first, you’ll have to answer my question, and I will see that your sickness gets cured!”
  • In fact, Josh did remember seeing Harvey the night before but chose to hide it because he didn’t want any trouble to follow. However, now that he knew he had a chance to get rid of his illness, he immediately jumped at the chance and dragged Harvey out of the restaurant in a clandestine manner. “You indeed dined at my restaurant, but when you left, I saw someone tailing you from behind, and that caught my eye.”
  • “Who was it?!” Harvey responded with a glacial voice while staring at Josh with his intimidatingly piercing gaze.
  • The restaurant’s owner then continued to say, “If my memory serves me right, it was Eddie Johnson. He is a thug who roams around this neighborhood and terrorizes the street with some small-time crime, but since everyone is scared of him, nobody really dares to mess with him.” Josh pointed at a hair salon not far away while talking to Harvey. “That’s where he is usually seen. There he is! There he is! He is the one sitting right outside the door. I’d advise you to stay out of his hair because a thug like him is often an unpredictable wild card. If he ever gets crazy…”
  • Harvey then shifted his gaze in the direction that Josh said and saw a blonde guy sitting outside the hair salon in a relaxed manner with his legs crossed. How ‘intimidating’ that street thug is!
  • “Alright, if what you said is true, you have my word that I’ll help cure your illness.”
  • Soon, Harvey walked straight to the hair salon and kicked Eddie’s chair, causing the thug to fall on his butt. “Ouch!” As he was about to curse, his gaze became avoidant upon seeing Harvey.
  • “What’s wrong? Have you forgotten who I am?”
  • Harvey bent over and glared at Eddie with his piercing gaze, making his hair stand on end, but the latter refused to submit to his fear. So, he menacingly asked him, “Who the hell are you?! Do I have to know you?!”
  • “You’re right. You don’t have to know me, but you will!” Having been told how difficult the thug could be, Harvey was prepared to do this the hard way. So, he strangled Eddie by his throat and walked into the hair salon while dangling him in the air. Then, he tossed him onto the wall, sending the latter flying. Meanwhile, Eddie felt his limbs going weak as he shouted, “Hey! Someone is trying to mess with us!”
  • In that instant, a few more thugs emerged from behind the hair salon with weapons in their hands while lashing out at Harvey.
  • “How dare you mess with me on my turf! You must be asking for trouble! Beat him up until his last breath!”
  • The next second, one of the thugs charged at Harvey and swung the metal pipe in his hand at the latter’s head. Nonetheless, Harvey stood in place and raised his hand to block the attack instead of dodging it. While the man was unfazed, the metal pipe in the thug’s hand was bent out of shape.
  • “What…”
  • “Man! He is tough! Retreat!”
  • As their metal pipes were all bent out of shape, the thugs were shocked by Harvey’s invincibility. Thus, one of them shouted to retreat and ran away with the rest in a panicky manner, leaving Eddie behind to face the angry man alone.
  • Meanwhile, Eddie was frightened out of his wits upon witnessing what happened. I thought he was just a useless piece of crap! How did he get so powerful?! “S-Sir, please! We can sort this out like civilized men. I—”
  • “Shut up!” Harvey gave Eddie a side glance and crushed the chair next to him into pieces. “Right now, I’ll ask the questions while you give me the answers! If I don’t hear what I want, you will end up like this chair!” Soon, Harvey placed his hand on the table and gently patted it before it cracked and collapsed into pieces. At the sight of that, Eddie only shivered from head to toe, his teeth chattering in fear.
  • “Were you the one who knocked me out last night?”
  • “Y-Yeah, I was.”
  • “Were you the one who put me in the bed with a naked lady?”
  • “Y-Yes. It's all my fault! I’m sorry about—” Eddie kept his mouth shut when he met Harvey’s intimidating glare.
  • “Now, I want you to tell me who ordered you to do that; otherwise…”
  • “N-No one ordered me, sir! I-It was just a scam because I just want to con you for your money; that’s it! I-I didn’t know you were so tough.”
  • “Really?” If it was all a scam, why did the police show up just right when I woke up? “Hmm… that’s a good try… but a wrong answer!” Harvey coldly chuckled and gently twisted Eddie’s arm, upon which a crack could be heard. At that moment, Eddie’s face was covered in sweat as it turned as pale as a sheet. He then clenched his jaw and screamed in pain.
  • “If you don’t start telling me what I want to know, I’m going to break your bones one by one. I’m pretty good at that, so you could rest assured and trust my skills. After all, you won’t have to suffer from any more fractures in the future because when I’m done, you will have no more bones left to break.”
  • “I-I…” Eddie looked at Harvey in horror, as if he was looking at a hungry beast. Overwhelmed by his fear, he decided to come clean and tell the truth. “It’s Mr. O’Niell! His secretary told me to do that. I had actually been tailing you the whole day until I found a chance to set you up last night. Then, I called the cops the moment you woke up, but I swear I had nothing to do with the rest!”
  • “Mr. O’Niell? Do you mean Patrick O’Niell?”
  • “Yes! Yes, that’s him!” Eddie quickly held his other arm in agony, painfully nodding his head.
  • A glacial murderous intent soon flashed across Harvey’s face as he curled his lips upward and formed a sinister smile. “It seems that you’ve really gone through a lot just to drive me away from the Brown Family. I’d hate to let you down by not ‘thanking’ you properly.”
