Chapter 4 Fairytale In The Beaumont Family
- Lily laid in bed, thinking of what had transpired earlier that day. She still couldn't believe that something that intense was really going on in her life. She always thought she had a hard life, working twice as others would have, failing twice as much as others would have, and also excelling twice as much as others would have.
- She was tired but sleep was very far away from her. Her head kept reeling with different thoughts in her mind. She suddenly remembered Alexander’s awkward proposal and cringed at the thought of it.
- “What nonsense was he saying?”
- Truth be told, both men were both shockingly handsome but that was all there is. Alexander for one was a workaholic, anti-romantic and a big baby who needed extra care as he was sensitive to a lot of things. She dealt with him at work and didn't need to see him at home either.
- On the other hand Eric was easy going, charming, filled with smiles, but he was cunning and sly like a snake. She'd seen it first hand when he deceived her that he was Alexander, the first time she came to work. It seemed like a normal joke but the backstory behind it was far from one.
- And there was a silent hatred between the brothers that was far from normal sibling rivalry. Something that had to do with the death of their parents, she'd overheard them arguing one time and Eric called Alexander a murderer. Only the thought of it made her covered in goosebumps.
- She definitely didn't want to be a part of that family. Not at all! And as for her own romantic life? She had already kissed it goodbye the moment she started working with the great Alexander. She wondered what would happen from then on, and how it would affect her life.
- Would she be called on to sign some documents? She realized with a start that she was rich. Forget about the company, if she had just one international business of Vincent's, she was settled for life. There was no need to think of who to get married to.
- She could just walk into Alexander's office and hand him her resignation letter, or throw it in his face, like he'd done to her a couple of times. Such a temper he had!
- But she couldn't do that, and she was certain that was the reason Vincent trusted her with the company. She couldn't let his sweat go just like that, she couldn't let her father's dream go just like that.
- I hold the weight of the world on my shoulders. She thought to herself and breathed out heavily.
- She forced herself to put everything aside and go to sleep, tomorrow was going to be another tough day at the office, she was certain Alexander wouldn't change a bit because of the will. She knew him too much.
- “Tell me this is a rumor!” Lily heard in her sleep, and she turned on the bed annoyed. She had practiced being a light sleeper because of her boss and it was the most annoying thing ever.
- She had barely opened her eyes when Alexia came running into her room, her phone in hand and a toothbrush in her mouth. Lily yawned, unbothered as she checked the time, it was some minutes to five. She hissed, becoming more annoying, very bothered now.
- “Are you a ghost who doesn't sleep, what's wrong with you?” She snapped and covered herself with the duvet but Alexa yanked it away from her.
- “You must be feeling good to enjoy sleeping in the midst of this chaos” Alexa said, bouncing on the bed. Lily furrowed her brows not sure what she was talking about but couldn't care any more than she wanted her sleep.
- “Just let me sleep, you're not the one with a cranky boss” she said.
- “Are you really the heir of the Beaumont family?” Alexia asked with wide eyes and Lily jerked up, every trace of sleep suddenly disappearing.
- “Where did you hear that nonsense?” She asked and snatched her phone.
- Alexia nodded frantically.
- “Yes…it has to be nonsense right? It's not possible that I'm sharing an apartment with a billionaire” Alexia was saying but Lily had stopped hearing by now, her eyes were focused on the article displayed on the phone's screen. The article read: Fairytale in the Beaumont family, her eyes plastered to the screen as she continued reading.
- It was too accurate to be true, even the letter Vincent had written was there, word for word. She couldn't understand, did one of the Beaumonts leak the information. It couldn't be. Really it couldn't be.
- Alexa paused when she saw the look on her best friend's face. She shook her head.
- “Lily, what's with the look on your face, why does it look like you've been caught in the act?”
- Lily dropped the phone on the bed and covered her face in her hands. What a great way to start the morning!
- “Lily” Alexa called her heart racing. Lily took in a deep breath and looked up at her friend.
- “You know how my dad was close to the Beaumonts? Well it turns out…well…” Lily couldn't find her words. Alexa looked more anxious than she was.
- “Speak clearly Lily” she snapped, and Lily gave her a resigned look.
- “It's all true” she said and Alexa shook her head. Lily took her friend's hand.
- “I was going to tell you, I just found out yesterday and I was too over…”
- “Hold on, hold on, hold on. Are you speaking in parables right now?” she asked, clearly confused.
- “Trust me, I was as overwhelmed as you are”
- “Is this really true?” Alexia actually didn't seem very shocked as it sank in, her eyes were filled with joy when Lily nodded in affirmation.
- “So you have to get married to one of the Beaumont brothers, girl you're living the dream” Alexia squealed.
- Lily shook her head amused at her friend's sudden change in reaction.
- “You mean the nightmare” Lily said, Alexia was about to say something when Lily's phone rang out. It was Alexander.
- Alexia gave a knowing smile and urged her to pick up, she rolled her eyes as she answered the call.
- “I didn't think you'd pick up,” he said, a little surprised.
- Was he oblivious of the fact that he would wake her up at four in the morning to talk about meetings and documents? He obviously made her suffer and left with a clean conscience.
- “Well…I am awake” she said, eyeing Alexia who gave her a look of defense.
- “Since you are awake you must have seen the news” he said with a flat tone.
- “Yes Sir” she said. He really talked freely for someone whose proposal hadn't yet been answered, she thought to herself.
- “Stay at home today, there'll be reporters flocking around your house and the company” he said from the other end.
- Lily couldn't believe her ears. He specialized in taking her day off, not giving her a day off.
- “No sir…”
- “Don't argue with me, you're more than my secretary now” he said and something about the way he said it felt intimate, she could feel her heart rate increasing. She wondered if he felt it too because he didn't say anything after that.
- “But how did it get leaked out?” She asked, looking for anything to say.
- “I'm guessing a reporter, bugged us, the lawyer found a recorder in his bag, I'm guessing it must have been dropped there during the funeral”
- “Alright” she said, expecting him to end the call.
- “We took the original article down, but screenshots are spreading, we are still finding a way to minimize it, don't worry too much,” he added.
- Lily blinked, not sure what to say, was he really looking out for her or wasi t something else.
- “Have a good day then” he said and the call ended.
