Chapter 22 A Labyrinth With No End

  • Nicholas sat quietly in the back of the police car, his face unreadable. Beside him, Detective Robbins sat stiffly, tapping his pen rhythmically against a small notebook, his sharp eyes scanning Nicholas's posture for any signs of weakness, any crack in his composed demeanor.
  • The hum of the engine was the only sound that filled the silence as they neared their destination. Nicholas’s mind was a tangled mess of thoughts, but outwardly, he remained perfectly still, his hands cuffed loosely in his lap, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. Inside, he was anything but calm, but he knew better than to let it show. He'd been in situations before, ones that demanded his silence, his control. This was no different. Or was it?
  • And he'd already drank the poison, it wouldn't be long before it starts taking effect. Though it wasn't as fast as the one in the first bottle that Alex drank, it would take toll in a few days. He would rather die than spill the bean.
