Chapter 50 Favorite Meal

  • “There’s nothing to be shy about that, Ava. Zac is your man,” Hazel reminded, still swallowing down the amusement that kept bouncing around her chest. “He’s my man doesn’t mean he’s ready for pregnancy now, Hazel,” Ava groused, planting her ass against her car bonnet. “Moreover, I’m not prepared for it anytime soon as well,” Hazel eyed her playfully before coming to stand next to her. “So you’re saying you still want to enjoy some sex escapades with your man?” “Yes, Hazel. This is just the beginning between me and my man and any unwanted pregnancy now will definitely be considered as a factor and I wouldn’t want that,” Ava raised her chin and said smoothly. “Oh my, Ava,” Hazel cooed, wrapping herself around Ava. “To be honest, I’m always happy for you at every moment I spend with you. I’m happy you found true love, it is uncommon these days, you know,” She had a bright, broad, compassionate and sincere grin on her face. Her genuine happiness brought a happy smile unto Ava’s face as well. In her opinion, there are just a few important people in her life but the position Hazel held is much more higher than any other person. And she sincerely hoped that Hazel would also find true love because she deserves it. She deserves nothing more than a life-ending happiness. Just then, the sound of a car roaring to a stop right in front of them interrupted their moment and they both looked at the car and the person coming down from it. It was Daniel. The one and only person that would look everywhere in the world for Hazel each time he missed her. “Where have you been, Hazel? You have no idea how thorough I’ve been looking around for you,” the young man explained – almost sounding tearfully while he summed up his footsteps to where the girls were standing. Ava couldn’t help but pursed her lips as he stared from the young familiar guy to her best friend’s scowling face. And of course she’d expected such expression from her. In her eyes, she could tell that Daniel genuinely loves Hazel sensing from the few times she’d seen them together. “The last time I checked, Daniel, we have no unfinished business together. So why the hell are you looking for me? Did you by chance hear it from someone that I’m missing?” Hazel’s voice came out harsher as she scowled harder at the man. “Uhmm… uhmm,” Ava cleared her throat, smiling up at Hazel with a charming gaze while she announced her departure with a gesture. Hazel was dumbfounded as she watched Ava turn to her car and open the door. “Remember you were the one who called me out here, Ava!” she reminded her in a stern voice. “We’ll talk on the phone, babes. Do have a nice chat with Daniel,” Ava shouted before sliding into the driver’s seat. Hazel was left with her mouth gaping wide open as her gaze followed Ava’s fast-moving car until it was out of sight. “Please let’s talk, Hazel,” Hazel puffed out a breath and then gradually turned around to face him. “What in God’s name is your problem, man?” she asked calmly, folding her hands up in her chest. “You are my problem, Hazel,” he declared without a moment’s hesitation. “Just a chance. I’m only asking you to give me a chance and that’s all,” He came closer and continued. “I truly love you, believe me. I never thought that I couldn’t become my usual self because of a woman,” At this point, Hazel thought that she could see the tears welling up in his eyes and she instantly felt drawn to him and for a moment, she just stared on at his face as if she was trying to find out something. “Please,” he mumbled, obviously fighting the urge not to cry even though he was very close to it. Hazel breathed out again. Deeply. Then she stretched forth her hand to him. “Your phone,” “My phone?” Daniel blinked, sniffing and searching his trouser pockets for his phone but he couldn’t find it. “A sec,” he said edgily and then quickly whirled around to his car, opened the driver’s door and bent inside it and took his smartphone. He returned to where Hazel was standing and gave the phone to her. Hazel collected the device and then punched her digits in it and then stretched it back to him. “Call me,” She said simply and spun around immediately, walking to her car in her usual regal steps. For a long minute, Daniel thought he’d just heard wrong as he gazed from Hazel inside her car to his phone in his hand. . “Really, Hazel? I can now call you?” The excitement in his voice was quite deafening as his face wrinkled up into a big smile. Hazel only waved at him as she drove out of the place and from the rearview mirror, she could see him jumping around the place with enthusiasm – ignoring the gazes the few passerby were shooting at him. Seeing this, an involuntary grin spread across her lips and then she muttered, “Fool,” __ __ After being busy for a while in the kitchen, Ava came out of the kitchen and headed to the dining room, carrying a large tray that was containing three different covered dishes. As soon as she arrived there and lowered the tray on the not-too-long dining table, she heard some distinct movements from the entrance and she instantly knew that he had arrived. And with a thrilling smile forming at every corner of her lips, she dashed out of the place and hurried into the living room and saw him walking in with his assistant right behind him – holding his suitcase. Without giving it a second thought and not minding the man standing behind her man, Ava threw herself into Zac’s arms, wrapping her hands tightly around his neck and burying her face into his looming slender neck. “I missed you,” she whispered into his neck and then lifted her head to look at his face. A profound admiration was etched on the big man’s face as he watched the little woman in his grip as if he was looking at the most precious and beautiful thing in the world. “I kept seeing your face everywhere, Ava, especially on the papers. So I wrapped things up quickly and started coming home,” Zac explained, a serene tiny smile tugging on his lips as he lowered his head until his lips captured Ava’s for a kiss. Blake on the other hand couldn’t stop his eyes from going wide… as wide as saucers but he pressed his lips together tighter instead to stop himself from making any sound. Not only did he just hear his Boss rushing home because of a woman but he was also kissing her, right in his presence without any dignity? He shook his head secretly and clutched the bag he was holding. This young lady sure has a great effect on him. He thought. Furthermore, in his opinion, he was thankful to Ava because he could tell that his Boss had become a lot different since he’d started seeing her. Although, he wouldn’t say that he’d become less domineering but it’s a bit different now he must say. At least, it’s been a long while since the Boss had kicked out a worker. “You may leave now, Blake,” His gruff voice snapped Blake out of his thoughts and he soon composed himself and then put down the briefcase on a nearby couch. “Have a good night's rest, Mr. Gonzalez,” he inclined his head and said courteously. Zac didn’t give any reaction in response as he continued to watch Ava in his grasp. “Goodnight, Mr. Blake,” Ava waved at him against Zac’s shoulder. Blake bowed his head in respect in an instant as he responded, “And to you too, ma’am,” “Why are you sweating, babe? Are you okay?” Zac asked in a worried tone, raising a hand to her forehead and wiped out some beads of sweat. Ava grinned with her dazzling white teeth in his face. “Nothing to worry about, baby. It’s because I just finished preparing a sumptuous meal for you and I bet you’re gonna love it,” A relief sigh came out of Zac’s lips as he proceeded to walk toward the direction Ava had come out from just now – still holding her firmly in his embrace. “I don’t like you stressing out yourself, Tinkerbell, we could have just ordered for our dinner,” he was not getting angry but his timbre screamed dissatisfaction. Ava didn’t say anything to what he’d just said and just waited for him patiently to bring her down to her feet so that she could dish out for him as soon as possible. It was not as if she’d not cooked for him in the past but she’d prepared something different this evening – and she most definitely knew that he would love it. “I hope today wasn’t stressful,” asked Ava, getting down from his grasp and turning to the dishes on the table while Zac scooted a seat backward and lowered on it. He let out a little breath while he rested his elbows on the table. “Just signed a leap of documents all through. It was really tiring,” he told her while he watched her dish out his meal that has been filling his nostril since he’d stepped into the place. “ Sorry, babe. Don’t worry, from next time, I’ll be giving you a hand,” Ava teased, the creases around her forehead deepening from her wide grin. A light chuckled rolled out of Zac’s lips and this time, Ava had pushed the dish to his front and she watched as his brows lifted in amusement. It was a Canned Corned Beef Sandwich with Eggs. “Tell me your favorite meal, Zac,” Ava had asked during their conversations some nights ago. “Uhmm… It's a canned corned beef sandwich with eggs. Although, I don’t crave it all the time but I can say I like it,” Zac had replied to her, wrapping her to his embrace possessively on his bed. “But I don’t know how to make it, Zac,” Ava had frowned. “It doesn’t matter, Snow white. Remember I don’t crave it much,” Zac blinked as he vividly recalled their discussion that night. “I thought you said this was the only meal you are very bad at making, Ava. However, this looks so appetizing and yummy to me,” he was back to looking at her beaming beautiful face and voiced out. “Sincerely, Zac. I don’t think there’s any American dishes I can’t prepare. My mom made sure of that until she was satisfied,” A hint of sadness flashed across Ava’s eyes but the smile playing around her lips hasn’t weakened. “Wow… I should be grateful to your mom then for she has groomed you into a perfect woman for me,” Zac angled closer in her direction and whispered in a husky tone. And like that, Ava’s expression returned back to normal as she grabbed the cutlery and then gave it to him. “Uhmm…” Zac hummed out in satisfaction after he’d taken a large bite from the meal before him. “This is superb,” he murmured out and in a swift motion, he leaned forward and planted his lips on Ava’s cheek momentarily. “I’m glad you love it,” Zac just nodded as he continued to chew on his meal. Ava couldn’t be less happy and seeing the same expression on Zac’s face, she thought that it was the best time to drop the news for him. “I’ve gotten my IT letter today, Zac,” she suddenly let out, successfully switching the subject completely. And before Zac could say a word, she continued by saying, “I’ll have to start searching for an organization so that I can submit the letter as soon as I can,” The moment Ava finished her words, a frown creased Zac’s eyebrows together, dominating his forehead. “What do you mean?” It was four words but the weight he gave to these words couldn’t get past Ava and she slowly readjusted on her seat – preparing for the outcome of it. But one thing she was sure of is that she wouldn’t do her IT in any of his company or anywhere that will involve him.
