Chapter 5 Who Did You Sleep With Last Night

  • “Why? Aren't you afraid of other people finding out?”
  • “What's there to be afraid about?”
  • Elijah could not care less about the Zimmerman family. So what if the others know? Besides, he would be cheering with joy if he could bring disgrace to his own family.
  • “You...” Clarice was stumped. His nonchalant attitude made it clear to her that the man really could not be bothered. Biting down on her lip, she snapped, “What should I do so that you will let me off the hook?”
  • “Well, that depends...” Elijah edged closer to Clarice and licked her earlobe in a suggestive manner before he added, “...on when I get tired of sleeping with you.”
  • Only God knows when I will get tired of sleeping with you though.
  • Oblivious to what was on Elijah's mind, Clarice clenched her teeth and begrudgingly nodded her head. “Okay, but you have to keep this little arrangement between us.”
  • Clarice thought it was best to just steer into the skid since she could not see any way out of it.
  • Tit for tat, Xavier. You have the audacity to fool around Christie that openly, so why can't I have a relationship with your uncle?
  • “Agreed.”
  • I won't mention it, but don't blame me if others catch wind of our relationship though.
  • Elijah let Clarice go and retracted half a step back.
  • “Give me your phone.”
  • Clarice took out her phone and gave it to him without hesitation.
  • Elijah took over her phone and saved his own number under the caller ID “Uncle Elijah”.
  • “That's my number. You're on call 24/7, remember that.”
  • “Noted,” Clarice replied impassively.
  • She took over her phone and signaled for him to open the door.
  • “I have to go back right now.”
  • “Robbie!” Elijah shouted at one corner of his living room, and another house robot that was identical to the one in study glided over silently.
  • It scanned Clarice from the top to bottom as red lights flashed in its eyes to log her information in the system.
  • “We hope to see you again next time, pretty lady.”
  • The door sprung open after Robbie was done talking.
  • Clarice did not even mutter a goodbye before dashing for the door.
  • She finally let out a sigh of relief after she was some distance away from Elijah's place.
  • It was over an hour later when she reached Austin Residence, the villa where she was staying after marrying Xavier.
  • Clarice realized that her clothes were soiled after coming out of the bathroom just now. Hence, she had no choice but to rummage through Elijah's wardrobe for fresh clothes.
  • As a result, she was wearing one of Elijah's jerseys which were way oversized. There was nothing appealing to the way she was dressed.
  • To be honest, Clarice did not fancy herself in a strange man's jersey either and was itching to change out of it.
  • “Clarice Greene, where did you go last night?”
  • “Xavier, why are you home?”
  • Clarice was dumbstruck to hear Xavier's voice.
  • The man had already made it a habit to come home only in the middle of the night, most of the time with Christie by his side.
  • She had not expected his presence at home, and the shock made her forget that she was still wearing Elijah's jersey.
  • “Whose jersey is that? Clarice, are you finally sick of putting up an act? Did you go look for another man as soon as I stepped out of the house with Christie?”
  • Xavier stomped over to her side and pulled her hair forcefully.
  • “Ahh, it hurts! Xavier, let me go.”
  • Clarice was forced to tilt her head back from the momentum and shuddered at the sight of Xavier's grimaced face.
  • “Spit it out. Who did you sleep with last night?”
  • His bloodshot eyes reminded Clarice of demons from hell. The man exerted more and more force in pulling her hair back as though he wanted to peel off her scalp.
  • Unfazed, Clarice gave him a sinister smile and said, “Are you finally going to kill me, Xavier? Are you?”
  • Overpowered by waves of despair and irony, she broke into a cackle. “I did sleep with another man, and it was f*cking great. You're throwing me away like a broken toy, right? Tell you what, people are lining up to sleep with me out there!”
  • Slap!
  • Xavier slapped her hard across the face and roared, “Slut!”
  • “You and me both, Xavier. Since you you're saying no to a divorce, then just watch how I'm cheating on you.”
