Chapter 4 Can We Pretend Like Nothing Happened

  • Elijah was Xavier's uncle.
  • To Clarice's best knowledge, Elijah has been a taboo topic in the Zimmerman family. Even though she had grown up together with Xavier, there were only talks of his existence. If not for the only encounter at the wedding, Clarice would not have even recognized him in the first place.
  • “Aren't you supposed to be abroad or something?”
  • “Fate had it that I just got back yesterday night.”
  • Coincidentally, a friend had asked to meet up with Elijah for something urgent. It was the reason he went to MC Bar right after getting off the plane.
  • What do I do now? I've slept with Xavier's uncle for God's sake!
  • Clarice pushed him away fretfully and consciously distanced herself from him. However, with a plop, she fell to the ground.
  • Still unable to reel in from the shock, she wrapped herself around the sheets, too stumped to speak.
  • “Are you hurt anywhere? Why are you so careless?”
  • Elijah sighed helplessly and got off the bed as he strode over to her side to pick her up from the ground.
  • She bolted from the ground immediately and dashed into the bathroom as she said dryly, “I'm going to take a shower.”
  • Click.
  • The door was locked with a click. Clarice turned on the doorknob repeatedly to make sure it was really locked before heaving a sigh of relief.
  • She walked numbly underneath the showerhead and turned it on.
  • The cold water rained down on her, making her sneeze, but Clarice seemed unfazed.
  • She bumped her head against the ceramic tiling on the wall, frustrated over what she had done.
  • What on earth am I going to do now? How will I be able to face Elijah later?
  • On the other side of the door, Elijah was already fully dressed.
  • He made his way to the adjacent room and removed the sheets stained with Clarice's virginity before making his way into the study.
  • He pulled out a chair, lit a cigarette and made a call.
  • “Investigate what happened after Xavier and Clarice got married.”
  • By the time he was finished with the cigarette, there was already a reply.
  • Xavier did not consummate the marriage on the wedding night and fooled around with the Greene family's illegitimate daughter instead?
  • His interest was piqued by the sensational piece of information, and the man raised a brow. Didn't Xavier and Clarice marry for love? What happened?
  • It dawned on Elijah that his nephew's little wife was probably feeling indignant about being left alone at home yesterday. Going to the MC Bar was just her means of vengeance against her cheating husband. In other words, it did not matter if it was Elijah who bumped into Clarice yesterday. The raunchy night would have happened with anyone she fancied.
  • Elijah was displeased at the bout of realization.
  • His slender fingers tapped gently on the desk. Just when he was contemplating on how to deal with Clarice, the house robot which had been standing quietly in a corner bleeped with red lights.
  • “Sir, an unauthorized personnel is trying to open the door.”
  • Is she trying to get away?
  • Elijah rose from his seat as his lips curled into a slight smile.
  • Meanwhile, downstairs in the living room.
  • Damn it, why can't I open the door?
  • Nervous sweat dotted Clarice's forehead as she tried to pry open the door while casting nervous glances over her own shoulder.
  • However, the door just would not budge no matter how hard she tried.
  • “Are you going to leave just like that?”
  • I'm busted.
  • Clarice's body stiffened as she froze on the ground.
  • The sounds of footsteps emanated from the stairs and slowly edged closer and closer to her.
  • The man's domineering aura emerged behind her, encapsulating her every being. Immobilized, Clarice found herself frozen on the ground.
  • “Are you going to just keep quiet like that?”
  • Elijah's deep voice rang in her ears. The deliberately lowered voice was irresistibly appealing.
  • Clarice gulped in response.
  • She managed a weak smile and turned around, batting her eyelids innocently, and said, “Uncle Elijah, could you disregard what happened yesterday, please?”
  • I don't suppose he wants the whole world to know that he's bedded his nephew's wife, right?
  • Clarice clutched onto the thought like her saving grace.
  • “Of course...”
  • She looked straight into his eyes, her eyes brimming with hope.
  • What a cute little bunny.
  • An urge to tease Clarice bubbled within Elijah. He thought it would be fun to watch her get all flustered. She has somehow managed to bring out all my weird fetishes.
  • With the thought in mind, Elijah added, “Of course, I'm afraid that will be impossible.”
  • Upon hearing the news, her face fell as her smile faltered like a deflated balloon.
