Chapter 7 Provocation From Christie

  • Elijah: That depends on your performance.
  • That was all Clarice received in response after everything she said, and she nearly smashed her phone out of frustration.
  • However, she had to admit that Elijah's texts did help her forget all about her pain and despair, and she didn't even care about Xavier spending the night outside.
  • Clarice woke up early the next day and drove to work after quickly washing up in the bathroom.
  • Despite being married to Xavier, she had no intentions whatsoever of becoming a full-time housewife. After all, she was the only rightful heir to the Greene family and would have to take over the business in the future.
  • Christie, on the other hand, was nothing more than a product of Jonathan's drunken stupor that one night.
  • While the members of the Greene family addressed her respectfully, they never truly saw her as a part of the family. After all, her existence was a huge disgrace for Jonathan who swore to love his wife till death did them part.
  • Despite Christie being a living proof of Dad's disloyalty toward Mom, I've always treated her like my own sister since she was brought into the Greene family, but... Now I realize how stupid I was to have looked after and cared for that ungrateful wench!
  • Clarice sneered at the thought of that as she arrived at Greene Corporation.
  • She then parked her car in the underground parking lot and took the elevator to the seventeenth floor where her office and staff were.
  • “Good morning, Ms. Greene!”
  • “Good morning,” Clarice greeted her employees in response as she made her way to her office.
  • Greene Corporation wasn't exactly a very huge company and was considered to be somewhere between a medium to large enterprise in Norham. Its businesses include electronics, real estate, chain department stores, and so on. Although Clarice was the sole heir to the family business, her true passion was in fashion design.
  • Because Jonathan loved his daughter so much, he chose to let her study what she liked instead of forcing her into business management. He even went as far as providing her with the entire seventeenth floor and set up a fashion design department just for her.
  • Knock! Knock! Knock!
  • The secretary came in with a cup of coffee after knocking on the door.
  • “Here's your coffee, Ms. Greene.”
  • “Thanks.”
  • Clarice looked up at her secretary in confusion when she saw her still standing there. “Is there anything else you'd like to tell me?”
  • The secretary said awkwardly, “Ms. Christie is outside.”
  • Christie? What's she doing here? Did she come to gloat or something?
  • Clarice sneered at the thought of that and ordered her secretary to let her in.
  • Christie then entered her office dressed in a pretty dress and tousled her long, curly hair as she greeted her, “Hi, Clarice!”
  • “What is it?” Clarice asked while staring coldly at her.
  • “Aw, come on! Don't be so cold toward your sister!”
  • “Oh?” Clarice took a sip of her coffee and continued, “It's funny how you say that so shamelessly after getting in bed with my husband.”
  • “It's not my fault you aren't charming enough to keep your man loyal,” Christie said with a gleeful chuckle.
  • “If you came here just to gloat about that, then you may leave now.”
  • Christie couldn't stand how calm and cold Clarice was no matter what she did to spite her. It's almost as if she doesn't give the slightest damn about me!
  • “Know this, Clarice! One day, I will crush you beneath my feet and wipe that smug attitude of yours off your face!”
