Chapter 6 A Good Decision To Make

  • I couldn't stop crying for a while and Alaila did not try to stop me either. She let me cry all I want and only patted me at some point. I could tell she was in tears too. After a while, I sniffed and pulled away from her.
  • "It's ok," she told me and I sighed.
  • It should be ok, right? I have always hoped to meet my mom, and that had kept me going, but now, I do not know if I can keep going.
  • "What will I do now?" I asked and Alaila stared at me. "Who should I live for?"
  • She sighed. "You should live for yourself, Xavia. You don't have to live for anyone"
  • "Myself?"
  • She nodded. "Yes, yourself. You have a good life ahead of you. And you have me too"
  • "Alaila..."
  • She placed her hand on my shoulder. "I do not want you to have a bad thought, Xavia. You have to be positive, ok?"
  • I nodded, not in agreement but to make her stop worrying about me. I smiled at her and she smiled too. There was a knock on the door and Alaila stood up.
  • "I will check who is at the door. You should wipe your face"
  • I nodded and wiped my face with the tissue she gave to me.
  • Jason walked in. "Xavia?" he called and I smiled.
  • "Jason?"
  • I stood up and he moved closer to me. "How are you faring?"
  • I smiled wearily. "I am fine"
  • "Axel sent his condolence"
  • I nodded. "Thanks, Jason. Tell him I appreciate"
  • "You should sit"
  • I sat down and gestured for him to sit too. He sat down on the couch. "Jason, we will be leaving soon, just like we promised"
  • He smiled. "Axel said you can stay here as long as you want"
  • "Thanks, but we need to keep our promise and Alaila needs to go back to her family"
  • "Axel is willing to bring in Alaila's family if that will make you feel ok"
  • I sighed. "I can't do that to Alaila. She..."
  • "I don't mind, Xavia" Alaila answered.
  • "You don't have to do that because of me. You can..."
  • "Xavia..."
  • "Alaila, please"
  • "I love it here, Xavia. I know you love it here too. You should stay back. I will stay back too. I am sure my family will love it here to"
  • "Alaila, your family might not love it here. Your mom..."
  • "You don't have to worry about my mom"
  • I sighed. I am not changing my mind. "Jason, tell Axel we are leaving soon"
  • "Xavia!!!"
  • Jason nodded. "If you, want to leave, I will let him know"
  • I nodded and Jason stood up. "I will take my leave now"
  • I stood up too. "Thanks for coming, Jason"
  • "Let me know when you are ready to leave". I modded. "Bye," he muttered and I waved at him.
  • After he left, I turned to look at Alaila who seems lost in thought.
  • "Alaila?" I cooed, touching her slightly. She looked at me. "Are you ok?"
  • She nodded. "Are you really, not changing your mind?"
  • I nodded and she sighed. "I guess you've really, made up your mind" she muttered.

  • Alaila had gone to the kitchen with Mary to help out leaving just me in the room. I wasn't allowed to work because they wanted me to mourn my mom for a few more days. Though I told them I feel better now and staying indoors will only make me feel depressed, they insisted that I do it. They only want me to mourn my mom properly and I thought it will be nice to appreciate their effort by doing what they say. I sat on the couch, resting my body, my face averted. I have been like that for half an hour, thinking about Alaila and also about us leaving the Lycan pack.
  • I also do not want to leave her and I also feel sorry that Alaila will have to leave here because of me. She had made it clear at first that she doesn't want us to leave but when I insisted that we have to, she agreed to it. Since she agreed I was ok with leaving too but seeing how she tries to visit the places she has always wanted to visit but hasn't been able to visit before we leave, I feel bad about it.
  • All I wanted was for Alaila to return to her family. I do not want to be the reason she doesn't return to her family and I do not want her to sacrifice for me anymore, but I might be changing my mind now. We might have to stay for a few more weeks until she can visit and do everything she wants to do.
  • Alaila will be happy about this, I thought and smiled to myself.
  • I sat up after a while and picked up the book I had kept on the table and began to flip through the pages. I wasn't interested to read any part of the book. I was bored to death and leaving the room wasn't an option. When Alaila finally walked in, I breathed a sigh of relief. "You must be bored," she said walking towards me.
  • I nodded and close up the book. "How long more do I have to stay indoors?"
  • She sat down on the couch. "A day or two?"
  • I moved closer to her. "Were you able to visit any place today?"
  • She sighed. "No"
  • "Why?"
  • "The Alpha had some visitors today and there were so many dishes to prepare". She smiled. "But you don't have to worry. I can visit those places tomorrow"
  • "What if I change my mind?" I asked and her eyes brightened up.
  • "You will?"
  • "What if I do?"
  • She rested on the couch. "That will be nice but you don't have to do that because of me"
  • "We are not leaving" I muttered and she sat up quickly.
  • "Did you say we are not leaving?"
  • I nodded and she blinked rapidly. "You are not joking about this right?"
  • I nodded. "Yes. I have thought..." Alaila hugged me, cutting me short. I could tell how happy she is and that got me laughing. It's good to see her smile. "You're suffocating me," I said playfully and she pulled away from me.
  • "You know I am so happy right now"
  • "I know you are. I am also very happy that you can smile like this"
  • "Have I not been smiling these past few days"
  • "Of course, you have. But today's smile is a special one. Do you know why it is?"
  • "No?"
  • "Because I am the one who put that smile on your face"
  • She patted my shoulder with a smile. "Then I must commend that you have done a great job. I am also happy that you are lively now. I have been worried about you"
  • "I am sorry for making you worry about me"
  • "You don't have to be sorry. I was expecting more of that. You lost your mom. It will be so unreasonable of me to expect you to be happy and lively like you were before. But I am happy you are back now"
  • "All thanks to you"
  • She adjusted herself on the couch. "So, tell me. Why did you change your mind"
  • I shrugged. I don't know why I change my mind. Except for the fact that I want Alaila to be happy and her happiness to me, is here. And I also think that is a good decision to make
  • "I guess I was meant to change my mind in the long run"
  • She smiled. "Well, it doesn't matter why you changed your mind. I am glad you did"
  • "I am glad too"
  • Alaila stood up. "I should go and tell Jason about it. He will be so happy to hear this"
  • She turned to leave immediately and I furrowed my brows. "You can meet with Jason?"
  • She turned to face me. "Yes. He showed me where I can meet with him"
  • I sighed. "Lucky you"
  • "Don't tell me you are sad"
  • "I am not. I wish I can leave this room too. I am tired of staying here all day doing nothing aside from eating and sleeping"
  • "But you read books too. You've always loved to"
  • I chuckled. "You get tired when you keep on doing the same thing for a long time"
  • She nodded. "I can't agree less. Do you want me to speak to Jason about it? You can return to the kitchen if he says so"
  • I widened my eyes. "You will do that for me?"
  • She nodded. "You gave me the best news today. I should be able to do that for you"
  • "Please do. That is the best thing you can do for me right now"
  • She smiled. "Then I should get going"
  • **
  • Just like Alaila had said, Jason was happy we are staying back, and as he had promised he made plans to send for Alaila's family, but Alaila instead that she goes to see them and then return to the Lycan pack after a few days. At first, I do not understand why she wanted that but I soon realized she did it for me. Her family doesn't like me, especially her mother. If they come to the Lycan pack, that will disrupt our relationship.
  • "But will your mom allow you to come back?" I had asked her the day she left.
  • "I will make sure to return," she told me. "You have to promise me you will wait until I return"
  • I nodded slightly, not sure if I should be making that promise. I have over eighty percent assurance that she might not return, but I made myself believe that she will try to keep her promise so I should try to keep mine too.
  • "I will wait until you return, Alaila. But you have to promise me you won't keep me waiting"
  • She nodded. "I promise"
  • I hugged her passionately that day, taking a while before releasing her from the hug. "Bye, Alaila" I cooed.
  • "Bye, Xavia" she answered.
  • But after she left, I became lonely. I had to take a stroll to the garden to pick up a few fruits, before joining Mary and the rest in the kitchen. To make me not think about Alaila's absence, they tried to engage me in a talk. At first, it was difficult but I soon became free with them and began to enjoy their chats. They also allow me to clean up the stables with some girls. Though I did not do much, it helped me miss Alaila a little, though it was only for a while as I soon began to miss her very much again. By the time I was done, it was late in the night and all I did was eat and retired to bed.
  • The next morning was filled with so many activities. Jason had listed out some things I could do to keep me away from missing Alaila so much. I got engrossed in these activities that when Mary ran up to me to tell me that Alaila had returned, I could not go back to the room until she showed up.
  • "You must be too busy to miss me," she told me and I found myself laughing.
  • "I am so sorry I got lost in these, " I told her, pointing at a few of the things I have been doing.
  • "You must love them," she said and I nodded sincerely.
  • "I do. How are you? Did not expect you to return so soon"
  • "I wasn't either but I did"
  • "How are your family? What did your mom say?"
  • "Nothing. They were happy to see me"
  • I smiled. "I wasn't expecting her to let you return"
  • "I wasn't either but she asked me to take my time before coming back"
  • "I still can't believe it though"
  • "I can't believe it either but I am happy we both made a good decision"
  • I nodded. "And I am happy you are back"
  • She smiled. "I am happy too"

  • I don't know why Alaila told Jason about my birthday. I only know that they planned up a little surprise party. And just like they wanted, I was caught by surprise. Alaila had tried all she can to make me stay out of the house all morning. I did not suspect that was their plan, I only suspected they were scheming up a thing. She took me to the garden first to plug some fruits and then took me to the pack's fishing ground. No matter how much I tried to ask her why we are visiting so many places when we will not be leaving anytime soon, she only laughed and tell me not to worry.
  • At exactly noon, she told me it was time to return. I suspected something might be going on but I never knew I was going to get the biggest surprise of my life!
