Chapter 1
- Isla
- I was pregnant.
- The Luna, who had been ridiculed for her infertility, was finally pregnant.
- “Do you think your father is going to move me back when I tell him about you?” I whispered softly with a hand pressed to my tummy while looking down.
- The table was set, the wines were opened and I waited patiently for Liam. I glanced at my phone, checking the messages I had sent him.
- I had informed him it was my birthday, I had also pleaded with him to come early today and that I had important news.
- I watched the time again, sending another message while hoping he’d arrive soon.
- Liam had changed for two years now, not picking my calls, or sleeping in the house and always avoiding me like a plague.
- It hurt deeply but goddess knew I was ready to do everything within my power to save my marriage.
- “The alpha got married to Ruby today, don’t think he’s going to come home today because they’re having their wedding night.” Amelia, my mother in law, announced with a bright smile as she walked in.
- My heart contracted for a moment and my eyes dilated as pain spread across my chest.
- “Ma… Married?” I demanded, my throat filled with bile while I stared at her and she nodded with a chuckle.
- “Yes, he’s married to Ruby, she’s the daughter of the gamma, worthy to be by his side and she’s going to give him children, the one thing you’ll never be able to do!” She snapped and I stared at the table blankly and the brown paper.
- “Is this some joke?” I demanded, staggering back and she burst into laughter.
- Today was our five-year wedding anniversary, my birthday and the day I wanted to announce my pregnancy.
- My heart plunged into abysmal sadness and my hands trembled as tears formed in my eyes.
- “N… no… It…”
- “Oh please, stop shedding tears, what were you expecting? Do you think Liam is going to remain with you forever just because you were with him when he was rebuilding the pack? He got married to you, which is payback for all your help. He needs an heir and a woman who is fit to stand beside him. Other than cross checking the monthly income and cooking, what else can you do?” She demanded and the question replayed in my head.
- Liam and I had been married for five years, we got married a year after the pack was rebuilt or rather after I had rebuilt the pack.
- I had left my pack in a bid to help him all because I had loved him for seven years and every other alpha had deserted him after his pack got burnt in a little war that had occurred six years ago.
- I could remember Liam kneeling on gravel and promising me forever, promising me that I was going to be his Luna for life and we were going to live together in love.
- Six years ago, after joining him at the pack, I abandoned my father’s pack. They tried to warn me but I was blinded by love.
- Although he had changed over the years, he never said anything about another woman… All he did was complain about excess work and wanting more time to rest alone which I had given him.
- “I want you to move out of the main room, Ruby is coming into the house tomorrow and I’d like for her to pack into the room, pack everything that belongs to you and move into the guest room.” Amelia announced and my jaw dropped.
- “Is this what I get for helping when everyone deserted Liam?” I demanded, staring blankly and she rolled her eyes.
- “Stop speaking like you did any spectacular thing, you only gave us loans to rebuild the pack and Liam has repaid everything so he’s no longer indebted to you.” She snapped and it took a lot not to claw her eyes out.
- My wolf, Dove, was furious, she had warned me terribly, told me not to trust Liam or help him but I had been blinded by love. Ever since I helped him, Dove had distanced herself from me and what do I get in return for turning my back against my people and wolf? Betrayal, on not just any days but my special day.
- I nodded without a word. “Okay.” I replied and Amelia chuckled.
- “I cannot wait to carry my grandkids.” She muttered and I forced my legs to move.
- They were so stiff, my heart was pounding heavily and as I entered the room, a knock came in.
- “Luna asked me to drop this.” A maid muttered and I opened the envelope, a tear rolled down my cheeks as I saw Ruby dressed in a white wedding gown with Liam.
- They were kissing when the pictures were taken and the pain in my heart tripled, I gritted my teeth as tears rolled down uncontrollably.
- This wasn’t today, it had been going on under my nose. I was too blinded to see it… I was a fool to trust Liam in the first place.
- “Don’t you think it’s time to return home?” Dove whispered faintly and I nodded.
- “I’m so sorry for not listening to you… I was a fool…”
- “The deed has been done, it’s time to take everything that belongs to you and leave.” Dove replied and I nodded.
- I’m not going to labour for another woman to have it all, I’m going to take everything! I’ll make an account for every penny I spent and have him return it.
- I wiped away the tears on my cheeks and nodded softly as I grabbed a box.
- I threw in a few clothes and headed to one of the guest rooms along the passage.
- I dialed the number of the finance manager of the Nightshade pack.
- “Luna, Isla, what a pleasant surprise.” He muttered and I swallowed.
- “Make a list of all the amount that was spent on rebuilding the Redmond pack which came from me, all the loans that are past the payment date, make a list too and send it to me, send officers down here tomorrow to demand for the payment and if he can’t provide it then get ready to take the collaterals involved.” I ordered and for a moment he didn’t say a word.
- “L… Luna.. Are you sure about this? The last time we spoke, you told us to push back the dates…”
- “Things have changed now, Ryan and prepare the pack house, I’m coming back.” I replied and ended the call before he began to bombard me with questions.
- “We’re done here, it’s time to return home.” I whispered as tears streamed down my cheeks.
