Chapter 5 What’s the Point?

  • Hupo took a stroll around the garden by herself.
  • Outside the garden, the snapping sounds of camera flashes could be heard, causing her to subconsciously turn around and look.
  • Reporters.
  • “I heard a long time ago that Young Master Ke was keeping a secret lover. They were right. She looks beautiful and humble.”
  • “Young Master Ke is getting engaged tonight, yet she’s staying quiet and not making a sound. If all mistresses were as obedient as her, then they would all have harmonious relationships with the official wives.”
  • “Who do you think is more beautiful? Her or Meng Qinqin?”
  • “It doesn’t matter how beautiful she is. She is still a mistress that needs to be hidden. She is nothing compared to Meng Qinqin.”
  • Hupo dug her nails into her skin as she quietly headed for the living room. She couldn’t stand hearing another word from these people.
  • What was she to do?
  • What was she to do?
  • That night, Hupo simply had one mouthful of dinner before she headed to her bedroom.
  • She turned on the television and quietly sat on her bed as she watched the broadcast of Ke Beichen and Meng Qinqin’s engagement.
  • So lively.
  • So many people.
  • They were all T City’s socialites. And, amidst the glitz and glamor, Ke Beichen and Meng Qinqin stood hand-in-hand, like a match made in heaven.
  • As Lan Hupo watched the broadcast, her heart began to ache.
  • She rushed into the bathroom and poured ice-cold water on her face. But, a little while later, she slipped on the bathroom floor and fell unconscious.
  • If possible, could she sleep forever and never wake up?
  • If possible, could she have never met Ke Beichen?
  • “Why were you so careless?” Ke Beichen’s low cold voice resounded as soon as she opened her eyes again.
  • Hupo laughed faintly, “Did I interrupt something?” He must have been angry because she interrupted his engagement.
  • “No, but be careful from now on.” If he didn’t call the housekeeper to check on Hupo, the child could have been lost by the time he discovered her unconscious on the floor.
  • “OK,” she replied obediently as her lips curved upwards slightly into a smile. She was as elegant and beautiful as when Ke Beichen first met her.
  • Ke Beichen wrapped his arms around Lan Hupo and pulled her tightly into his embrace, “Lan Hupo, what must I do to make you let go of yourself?”
  • For a while now, all that had been growing was her stomach while her body continued to lose weight endlessly.
  • Ke Beichen had known for a while that the woman in his arms was no longer the same Lan Hupo that he once knew.
  • “Beichen, I want to go on a date,” Lan Hupo said calmly as she revealed a gentle smile.
  • “OK, we will do as you please.” After Ke Beichen was done talking, he tried to place a kiss on Hupo’s forehead, but his phone suddenly started ringing.
  • The phone call broke the peace. Ke Beichen released Hupo and stepped out to answer the call, “Qinqin, what’s the matter?”
  • “My parents are still at the hotel and the engagement hasn’t ended. You better come back and give them an explanation,” Meng Qinqin yelled before she hung up the phone.
  • Ke Beichen turned around and glanced at the hospital room. Everyone had their purpose in life and he had to marry Meng Qinqin as planned; even Lan Hupo couldn’t stop him.
  • So, after he called the housekeeper to watch over Hupo, Ke Beichen left the hospital.
  • Hupo waited for a long time but did not see Ke Beichen return. In the end, she checked the gossip news on her phone and discovered that he had returned to the scene of his engagement party.
  • That made sense. After all, what was she to him? She was just a pet that he owned.
  • A pet that he could casually lock away. Even if he left her to fend for herself, she would never be able to remove the stamp of ownership he marked on her body.
  • She was just his mistress.
  • Everyone in T City believed that.
  • Even her father and Jiang Lan thought that.
  • Thus, even her birthday was forgotten.
  • No one remembered it was her birthday.
