Chapter 5 Marrying Another
- Back at the Palace.
- "Ius Rematrimonii Sanguinis?" The Elders echoed as their eyes widened in shock.
- "You asked me what I wanted, and I have told you," Seraphine said to them as she sat on Alaric's seat.
- Ius Rematrimonii Sanguinis was a sacred right that involved a widowed Luna marrying the blood relative of her late husband.
- Seraphine had read about it in the past. She knew she wasn't okay with anyone taking Alaric's place in her life, but that was the only solution she could think of.
- The old men were after something. Though Seraphine wasn't sure what it was, she was going to make sure she stomped on all their plans.
- "So you are willing to travel miles in search of a new Alpha instead of appointing one amongst us?" Derrick asked her.
- Seraphine leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table, and her face on her clasped hands.
- "I am only doing what I think is best for the pack which my husband left in my care," she said to him in a calm and firm tone.
- An Elder stood up. He had a smirk on his face.
- "I agree with you, Luna, you have indeed done what you think is best for the pack," he said, his smirk deepening. "But just so you know, Luna, Ius Rematrimonii Sanguinis is not without a price."
- Seraphine was confused. "What price?" She asked.
- Glancing around, she noticed the other Elders seemed to have caught on to what was in his mind as they grinned.
- "Well, Luna, the price isn't a hard one to bear," he said to her.
- "Then say it," She said, trying to sound calm, even though she was already getting irritated.
- The Elder let out a low chuckle. He left his seat and moved closer to her.
- "Well, Luna, this is it. If you are unable to return with an Alpha at the appointed time the council gives to you, then you'll lose all your rights; not just as the Luna of the pack, but you will also lose your right as a member of the pack." He said, flashing a menacing smile at her. "You'll be nothing more than a rogue, a wolf lesser than an Omega."
- "This is what happens when a kid tries to act like an adult," Derrick added. "Good luck, Luna. Now you know why Ius Rematrimonii Sanguinis hasn't been invoked in decades."
- With those words said, Derrick walked out of the courtroom, and with him, others followed until only the trio of Theon, Elara, and Seraphine were alone.
- "What were you thinking, Seraphine?" Elara asked as she walked up to her.
- Seraphine let out a sigh.
- "I was thinking about my pack, the Bloodmoon pack," She answered honestly.
- Elara scuffed. "And when did you start caring about them?" She questioned.
- "Since I found out that my Mate was their Alpha, and even though he is dead, the pack remains something that I have to look after, do you understand?" Seraphine asked, but Elara didn't say anything else.
- "Well, I don't think we have time for fighting. The deed has been done, so what we need to do now is to find a solution to the problem," Theon said.
- Seraphine looked at him.
- "There is no problem here, Theon. Alaric has three other brothers, so marrying one of them shouldn't be that hard," She said to him.
- Theon snickered. "It's not just about marrying, Luna. How can you marry someone you cannot convince?" He asked her.
- "That shouldn't be that hard; I mean, Seraphine is so beautiful; just showing them her thighs would do the trick," Elara joked.
- Theon chuckled. "Yeah, sure. I would love to see how she tries to make a bunch of wolves who have mates fall for her."
- Seraphine understood what Theon meant. She knew even Alaric would never do that if he was the one, so why did she think his brothers would?.
- "But at least we have to try, we can't just give up now," Elara said.
- "Yes we can't," Theon added. "But another question is which of the brothers are you planning on marrying?"
- Seraphine had already thought about that. Alaric had three brothers, and each of them was the Alpha of a different powerful pack.
- When she thought about whom to pick from the three brothers, she decided to go with someone whom no one would have ever considered as an option.
- "I pick Alpha Daven,"
- Elara and Theon's jaws dropped in shock.
- "Are you insane?" Elara asked.
- "No offense, Luna, but I agree with that question," Theon said, pointing toward Elara.
- Seraphine folded her arms beneath her chest.
- "Well, if I want a peaceful reign with my new Alpha, then he's the best option," She said to them.
- "What do you mean by that?" Elara asked.
- "Yeah, explain, Seraphine, because I do not seem to understand how you would think that the most ruthless among the three brothers would be the best option for a peaceful reign," Elara added.
- Seraphine sighed.
- "Okay, so you know that even if the other brothers are Alphas, Alaric's position and power were still greater than theirs because he was the Alpha King. Now with Alaric dead, if I pick either of the other two brothers, what do you think Alpha Daven would do?" She asked them.
- None of them said a word. They knew the answer. He would rival with the pack until he got what he wanted.
- "So when do you plan on leaving?" Theon asked.
- "I'll leave at first light tomorrow," She answered as she stood up from her chair. "And I'll need you to watch over the pack while I'm gone. I can't have the Elders in charge of the Palace "
- Theon nodded in understanding.
- Seraphine turned to leave when something came to her mind. As she turned around, she found Elara with the Autopsy letter the doctor had sent. She looked horrified.
- "What does it say?" Seraphine asked her.
- Elara turned to Seraphine.
- "It wasn't a normal death, Seraphine," She said to her, tears rolling down her eyes. "Alpha Alaric was poisoned.”
