Chapter 8 Bruce

  • Kaitlyn felt her heart ache upon hearing her kids’ pitiful babble.
  • That painful night from five years ago was a night that she would never forget.
  • After what happened, she tried all she could to forget about it. Yet, what she didn’t expect was that she was actually pregnant.
  • When she found out that she was pregnant, she was already three months into the pregnancy. Therefore, an abortion surgery would bring great harm to her health.
  • At that time, she nearly broke down, but luckily her senior in college, Bruce Jameson, came to her rescue. He helped her to defer her studies so she could rest well.
  • For the past few years, Bruce had always taken great care of them, so the kids loved him. As for Kaitlyn, she was more than grateful for his help.
  • Rachel was still talking in her high-pitched voice, “Bruce is handsome and kind. Mommy, why don’t you ask Bruce to be our Daddy? I would love to have a Daddy!”
  • Kaitlyn felt the sudden urge to cry because her kids had rarely mentioned wanting a Daddy previously.
  • But it seemed like today’s incident had affected them greatly.
  • She consoled the kids, ignoring the niggling bitterness in her heart. “Rachel, be good. I know you want a Daddy, but Bruce isn’t your Daddy. He has a girlfriend, so don’t ever say that again, alright?”
  • “Okay,” Rachel sighed and replied dejectedly.
  • After a brief silence, Alex questioned, “When will our Daddy come to us? Mommy, does Daddy still want us?”
  • Kaitlyn’s heart fell with a thud as she pulled them into her arms and comforted them gently. “Of course Daddy wants you, silly boy. Your Daddy is a great hero, and he’s busy carrying out a mission. One day, when he completes the mission, he’ll be back. So, you need to wait patiently with Mommy, okay?”
  • “Really?”
  • Both kids looked up at Kaitlyn earnestly.
  • Looking at their faces laced with hope, Kaitlyn could feel guilt rising in her heart as she forced out a laugh, “Of course. I’ve never lied to you, have I?”
  • As Jordan listened to their conversation from afar, he felt strangely upset by it.
  • Right then, someone pushed the door of the shop open.
  • An elegant and slender figure walked in.
  • It was a mild-mannered man wearing gold-framed glasses. Every bit about him exuded sophistication.
  • Glancing around, he spotted Kaitlyn and the kids before he broke into a grin. “My darlings, look what I brought today!”
  • The kids were extremely delighted to see him.
  • Instantly, Rachel leaped to him and flung her arms around his leg. “Bruce, you’re here! What did you bring for us? Let me see!”
  • Even Alex was staring in his direction as his eyes sparkled with curiosity.
  • Bruce stretched out his hands that were behind his back. “Tada! Your favorite brownies! I queued up for over an hour before I managed to get them.”
  • “Wow! You’re the best!” Rachel clapped her hands happily.
  • Kaitlyn couldn’t help but chuckle at the scene. She looked at Bruce and said, “Bruce, stop spoiling them. You’re always bringing them food or toys.”
  • Bruce shot her a smile. “What matters is that they love it. Besides, it’s nothing expensive, so don’t take it to heart.”
  • Sighing, all Kaitlyn could think about was that he had helped them enough.
  • Just then, Bruce swiveled and noticed the figure standing in the middle of the shop.
  • A flash of shock appeared in his eyes as he knew who Jordan was.
  • But why is he here?
