Chapter 14 Secret

  • Meanwhile, in the Addison family’s mansion in North City...
  • Winter’s parents sat in the hall with Jordan’s mother, Maya, as they enjoyed some afternoon tea together.
  • The tension in the air was palpable as the crashing sounds coming from upstairs shook the house.
  • Clifton Addison furrowed his brows. “Hasn’t she had enough?”
  • He turned to Lexie and asked, “What’s the situation over at the agency?”
  • Trembling, Lexie answered, “So far, we’ve lost four movie roles, three drama roles, and seven advertisement commissions. Many companies are demanding compensation. We’re in trouble, sir.”
  • Clifton turned pale at the sound of that.
  • He had invested much time and money to turn his daughter into a superstar, yet all his work went to waste the moment the scandal happened.
  • Winter’s mother, Verna, piped up all of a sudden. “Maya, our kids have been engaged for quite some time now. Shouldn’t we be preparing for the wedding soon?”
  • Maya froze up for a second when she heard that.
  • Slightly embarrassed, she replied, “Of course! My father-in-law has been talking our ears off about how great it would be to have a great-grandson. Jordan isn’t cooperating, though... he keeps saying that he’s busy!”
  • “Maya, I don’t think we should delay things any further. After all, they’re not going to stay young forever!” Verna chided.
  • Hearing that, Maya smiled. “I’ll remind him about this when I get back. Don’t worry.”
  • The Addison couple heaved a sigh of relief upon hearing that. “Thanks a lot.”
  • Maya waved her hand nonchalantly. “No need to thank me. In fact, I should be grateful for your help back then. I’ll take responsibility for our kids’ future.”
  • After she took her leave, Maya took out her phone and gave Jordan a call.
  • “What’s wrong, Mom?” Jordan asked upon picking up the phone.
  • “Jordan, it’s about time you marry Winter,” she said. “You can’t keep delaying your wedding because of work!”
  • “Were the Addisons putting words into your mouth again?” Jordan asked coldly. “If they’re getting impatient, then I’ll just call off the engagement. Looking for another fiancée wouldn’t be that much of a hassle anyway.”
  • Before Maya could protest, he hung up the phone without another word.
  • Maya grimaced as she stared at her blank phone screen.
  • After hanging up on Maya, Jordan turned around and asked Darren, “Have you found her?”
  • “Sir, I’ve sent people to track Ms. Stone down to no avail,” Darren reported. They’ve gone to the kids’ kindergarten as well to ask around, but the teacher there said that Ms. Stone was on leave for unknown reasons.”
  • “Have you checked her origins?” Jordan asked, frowning.
  • “Yes, sir,” Darren replied. “She was from North City rather than Cloudville.”
  • “Oh?”
  • Jordan raised an eyebrow, the information having piqued his interest. “What a coincidence!”
  • The headquarters of his company happened to be in North City as well!
  • “Let’s go to North City then. We might run into her.”
  • “Yes, Sir!”
  • With that, Darren ran off to prepare for the trip to North City.
  • ...
  • Meanwhile, in room 1208 of the North City Golden Majesty Hotel...
  • Kaitlyn had been zoning out near the window when Bruce walked into the room.
  • “Kaitlyn!” he called the moment he entered the room.
  • Instantly, Kaitlyn was jolted out of her trance, and she whipped her head around to face him. “How’s it going, Bruce?”
  • “Calm down. I’ve gotten hold of some information regarding the Stones,” he said, nodding. “Your father started a small company that could feed the entire family, so they’re living comfortably right now. As for your grandpa, he’s doing well too, and tomorrow’s his seventieth birthday. They’re preparing a birthday banquet for him right now.”
  • Kaitlyn perked up the moment he mentioned her grandfather.
  • “Sounds great. I’m happy as long as Grandpa’s healthy,” she said as happy tears welled up in her eyes.
  • “Don’t worry, Kaitlyn,” Bruce said, knowing full well how she felt. “You’ll be able to meet your grandpa tomorrow.”
  • Kaitlyn nodded, her eyes swollen from crying. “Thank you, Bruce!”
  • In the meantime, Jordan had already arrived in North City.
  • “Sir, we have information regarding Ms. Stone. Her mother left her when she was a child, and her father married his mistress, with whom he had a daughter. She suffered much throughout her childhood, and her grandfather was the only person who cared about her. She had always been an excellent student in school, but what’s notable is that five years ago, she paused her studies for unknown reasons and only returned a year later. We don’t know where she went or what she did during that one year of absence,” Darren said.
  • Jordan narrowed his eyes at the sound of that.
  • “Pausing her studies...five years ago? I didn’t know that,” he said.
  • Darren lowered his head and continued, “By the way, her grandfather is turning seventy tomorrow. She’ll definitely show up at his birthday banquet if she is currently in North City.”
  • Jordan nodded. “Let’s go for his banquet tomorrow.”
  • “Yes, Sir!”
