Chapter 4 That Ring

  • Kaitlyn stared at Winter’s retreating figure angrily.
  • How could an A-list celebrity like her be so narrow-minded? If she refuses to pay, I’ll sue her and reveal her true colors to everyone! Hmph, I’m no easy target!
  • With that thought in mind, she strode into the elevator, infuriated. Kaitlyn had just exited the hotel and was about to enter her car when her phone rang.
  • When she answered the call, Darren’s voice rang out. “Ms. Stone, this is Darren Brocks. Did you leave your ring behind?”
  • Stunned, Kaitlyn looked down at her now-bared fingers and realized she had indeed left her ring behind.
  • “Ah, yes, it’s mine. I wouldn’t even have noticed if you didn’t call me.”
  • As a matter of fact, she bought that ring so people would think she was a married woman and wouldn’t give her unnecessary trouble. The ring itself wasn’t expensive.
  • Darren said, “If you have time, please come over. Mr. Hartman will hand you the ring himself.”
  • A short silence ensued, and Kaitlyn then replied, “There’s no need to, Mr. Brocks. That ring isn’t that important to me, so I wouldn’t want to trouble Mr. Hartman. You can just dispose of it.”
  • On the other end of the phone, Darren was surprised at her reply as he glanced at Jordan, who was standing right beside him.
  • “I see,” he answered.
  • However, Jordan was no longer interested in their conversation. He turned and threw the ring on the table before entering his room to change.
  • Right then, someone knocked on the door.
  • Darren opened the door and greeted the person politely. “Ms. Addison.”
  • Winter quickly wiped of that smirk on her face and asked in a sickly sweet voice, “Where’s Jordan?”
  • She stood on tiptoe and tried to peek into the suite.
  • Jordan’s grandfather had called her earlier, claiming that his grandson would like to have dinner with her. Hence, as soon as she heard that, she hurried over to Plaza Hotel and even rescheduled her shooting schedule to accommodate the sudden dinner invitation.
  • Yet somehow, Darren managed to block her view and responded calmly, “He’s currently changing his clothes. But I have his orders to bring you to the rooftop restaurant, so please come with me.”
  • With that, he closed the door behind him at once.
  • Unable to catch a glimpse at her fiancé, Winter was upset, but she dared not offend Jordan. Thus, she had no choice but to follow Darren obediently.
  • Half an hour later, Jordan appeared at the rooftop restaurant of the hotel.
  • The man had changed into a freshly laundered outfit but without the tie. Hence, he seemed more casual than usual.
  • Winter then spotted Jordan and stood up to welcome him elegantly.
  • “Jordan, you’re here.”
  • Jordan merely nodded and sat down across from her while fiddling with a woman’s ring.
  • “Tell them to serve the dishes,” he ordered Darren.
  • “Alright.”
  • In the meantime, Winter had immediately noticed the ring in Jordan’s hand.
  • Looking at it, the color and design of the ring were obviously tailored for females.
  • Thence, Winter grew increasingly excited and inquired, “Jordan, is that ring for me?”
  • Jordan looked up at her and responded flatly, “No.”
  • Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Winter’s smile froze instantly.
  • Jordan wasn’t in the mood to talk to her because his grandfather had forced him to come.
  • As soon as they finished dinner, he stood up and told Darren, “Send her back to the set.”
  • Upon hearing his words, Winter stood up and went after him. “Jordan, we haven’t met in a while. Can I spend the night with you?”
  • She bit her lower lip shyly, sending him an obvious hint.
  • Nevertheless, Jordan didn’t spare her another look and left right away.
  • He had promised his grandfather to join her for dinner, and that was it. Nothing more, nothing less.
  • Standing beside them, Darren had an air of nonchalance as he spoke, “Come on, Ms. Addison. I’ll give you a ride home.”
  • Winter, on the other hand, was overwhelmed with anger and frustration, so she took it out on Darren.
  • “Mr. Brocks, who is that ring for?”
  • There was no need to lie to her, so Darren replied honestly, “Someone who came to deliver flowers earlier dropped the ring. Mr. Hartman just happened to pick it up.”
  • Someone came to deliver flowers?
  • Was it the woman I bumped into earlier?
  • Well then, why was he fidgeting with it during dinner?
  • Coincidence? I think not! I’m not that dumb!
  • “It’s her!”
  • She clenched her fists tightly as she stared in the direction which Jordan had left, her expression contorting into an ugly scowl.
