- I leaned back in my chair, legs spread wide, arms behind my head, feeling nothing short of smug. The lies were effortless, like second nature. Telling everyone that Maria was my fated mate—what a joke. It’s funny how easy it was to manipulate people, to make them believe whatever I wanted. The pack bought it without question. They ate up the story like sheep. Even Maria clung to it like her life depended on it.
